Description of the Dauphin Island vacation home rental
This beautiful home is located on a cul-de-sac -- just a few minutes walk from the private community beach, swimming pool, tennis courts, and playground. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the ground-floor game room which has a snack kitchen, small pool table, and is adjacent to the outdoor living space with gas grill and outdoor dining area and deck overlooking the dunes. The ground-floor also features a bedroom and bath. The main floor is the main gathering area. The spacious dining table is ideal for family meals and games; and the comfortable living area is adjacent to the screened porch and open kitchen. Two bedrooms with queen beds and a full bath complete this floor. The master suite is on the third floor -- with access to the upstairs screened porch and a luxurious bath with separate tub and shower. A bunk room is adjacent to the second bath on this level.

A study with a porta crib (and fax machine!) provides a quiet getaway for reading, games, or sleeping!
Pets are Not allowed, And No smoking, please.
Amenities include a telephone, air-conditioning, satellite TV, a VCR, stereo, linens, a washer, dryer, and a gas (barbecue) grill. The full kitchen includes a microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, ice maker, and cooking utensils.
Activities (on site or nearby) include hiking, biking, golfing, tennis, fishing, wildlife viewing, shopping, sightseeing, swimming, boating, sailing, water-skiing, surfing, windsurfing, parasailing, jet-skiing, and shelling. Also close by are restaurants and museums.
There's a lot to do on Dauphin Island! Visit the Dauphin Island SeaLab and Estuarium, Fort Gaines (a historic Civil War fort), and beautiful nearby Bellingrath Gardens. The whole island is a bird sanctuary. And especially during the spring and fall, you can see many different types of birds on their migratory trips.
Charter fishing is great.

You can charter boats for both fishing and sightseeing. Enjoy taking a boat ride to see the historic Sand Island Lighthouse.
You can also take a car ferry ride across Mobile Bay to visit the Gulf Shores area -- with its water parks and outlet malls. There are several seafood restaurants on the island, as well as a bakery and pizza place! You can ride bikes on the bike trails which cover most of the island!
Our home is just a short drive to Mobile, Alabama, where you can visit many area museums such as the Mobile Maritime museum, Battleship USS Alabama, Exploreum Children's Museum or our Mobile Museum of Art. In season, enjoy a Bay Bears baseball game, and the Mardi Gras! Mobile has a wonderful family-oriented Mardi Gras celebration.
Area Information
Our home is located on the East end of Dauphin Island, in a quiet residential gated community. We welcome groups of 12 or fewer guests to our home and neighborhood. Our home is located just a short walk from the beach - on a flat, quiet, neighborhood street a leisurely walk to the community pool takes less than 5 minutes, and a few more minutes down the boardwalk puts your toes in the sand! The community area also has a bathroom, swingset, and tennis courts!

Dauphin Island itself is a wonderful beach community. There are no stoplights, just a 3 way stop at the water tower. Once you cross the bridge to the island you won't want to leave! In addition to our private neighborhood beach you may also want to visit the newly restored (2016) East End beach, the property owner's beach at the Isle Dauphine, the public beach near the "Little Red Schoolhouse" (our small but fabulous elementary school), or the West End beach.

Visitors old and young will enjoy visiting historic Fort Gaines on the East end of the island, as well as the Estuarium - an aquarium where you can learn about the Delta, Mobile Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, and the creatures that inhabit them! The Audubon bird sanctuary makes for a great walk (and birdwatching), and if you like to fish, there are many charter boats at the Dauphin Island marina. Sightseeing boats are also available. A fun day trip is to take the Mobile Bay Ferry across to the Fort Morgan/Gulf Shores area. Drive you car right onto the ferry!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How far is your home from the beach?
A: Our whole community is on the "Beach side" of the large dunes, and our home is just a short walk down a flat neighborhood street to the community pool/beach/tennis court area. It is about 500' from our driveway to the boardwalk of the community area, and is a leisurely 5 min walk to the pool. Within a few more minutes' walk down the boardwalk, your toes are in the sand/water! We have a large cart at the house with which you can carry chairs, toys, etc.
Q: Can we have more than 12 guests? We have several small children in our group and it looks like you have plenty of beds?
A: Because our neighborhood rules allow a maximum of 12 rental guests (day or night) , we do not rent to more than 12 guests. The extra beds just allow for a variety of sleeping arrangements! And it's so nice that no one has to sleep on a sofa! Please consider visiting us when traveling with a group of 12 or fewer.
Q: Can I bring my (small, well-mannered, old, cute) dog with me?
A: We have chosen for our home to be a pet-free rental. We hope you'll be able to visit us while your furry family member visits a doggy spa or stays with trusted friends.
Q: Do you provide bikes?
A: We provide bikes "as a courtesy". That means that you are welcome to use whatever we have available, but do not promise availability of any particular number or style/size bikes. We also provide a bike pump and helmets. We usually have 3-4 adult bikes and 2-3 children's bikes. Please ride them ONLY on the streets - riding in the sand will cause flat tires when you run over a sand spur, and bikes are not allowed on our boardwalk.
