There's a lot to do on Dauphin Island! Visit the Dauphin Island SeaLab and Estuarium, Fort Gaines (a historic Civil War fort), and beautiful nearby Bellingrath Gardens. The whole island is a bird sanctuary. And especially during the spring and fall, you can see many different types of birds on their migratory trips.

Charter fishing is great.

You can charter boats for both fishing and sightseeing. Enjoy taking a boat ride to see the historic Sand Island Lighthouse.

You can also take a car ferry ride across Mobile Bay to visit the Gulf Shores area -- with its water parks and outlet malls. There are several seafood restaurants on the island, as well as a bakery and pizza place! You can ride bikes on the bike trails which cover most of the island!

Our home is just a short drive to Mobile, Alabama, where you can visit many area museums such as the Mobile Maritime museum, Battleship USS Alabama, Exploreum Children's Museum or our Mobile Museum of Art. In season, enjoy a Bay Bears baseball game, and the Mardi Gras! Mobile has a wonderful family-oriented Mardi Gras celebration.

About the area

Our home is located on the East end of Dauphin Island, in a quiet residential gated community. We welcome groups of 12 or fewer guests to our home and neighborhood. Our home is located just a short walk from the beach - on a flat, quiet, neighborhood street a leisurely walk to the community pool takes less than 5 minutes, and a few more minutes down the boardwalk puts your toes in the sand! The community area also has a bathroom, swingset, and tennis courts! Dauphin Island itself is a wonderful beach community. There are no stoplights, just a 3 way stop at the water tower. Once you cross the bridge to the island you won't want to leave! In addition to our private neighborhood beach you may also want to visit the newly restored (2016) East End beach, the property owner's beach at the Isle Dauphine, the public beach near the "Little Red Schoolhouse" (our small but fabulous elementary school), or the West End beach. Visitors old and young will enjoy visiting historic Fort Gaines on the East end of the island, as well as the Estuarium - an aquarium where you can learn about the Delta, Mobile Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, and the creatures that inhabit them! The Audubon bird sanctuary makes for a great walk (and birdwatching), and if you like to fish, there are many charter boats at the Dauphin Island marina. Sightseeing boats are also available. A fun day trip is to take the Mobile Bay Ferry across to the Fort Morgan/Gulf Shores area. Drive you car right onto the ferry!
