About the area

A natural wooded and subtropical setting, open waterfront, and quaint village-like setting all combine to make Dunedin an enchanting Florida getaway. Visitors will readily see why it is recognized as one of the most desirable places to live and work in Florida. Boasting over 1,400 acres of unspoiled park land and a view of the Gulf of Mexico that is unobstructed by the development prevalent in other coastal locales, it is easy to understand why many seasonal residents end up making the area their permanent home. Called "Delightfully Different," Dunedin offers visitors a unique experience. Steeped in Scottish heritage, the town of Stirling, located in Scotland, is Dunedin's sister city. The Highland Games and Festival, held every spring, showcases this legacy while bringing an international flavor to the area through the varied cuisine and the competing bands and dancers from around the world. Visitors to charming downtown Dunedin can stroll brick sidewalks while stopping in fine restaurants, antique stores and art galleries. A portion of the Pinellas Trail, a 47-mile-long linear park, winds right through downtown, offering bikers, walkers and rollerbladers a chance to stretch their legs. The Dunedin Fine Arts Center presents a unique view of Florida's environment, history and people via the "Florida Treasures" Art Mural. This fascinating mural is 85 feet long and is comprised of hand-painted glazed ceramic tiles. Dunedin's natural escapes include Honeymoon and Caladesi Island State Parks, among the few remaining undeveloped barrier islands on Florida's coast. Caladesi, in fact, is so untouched that it is accessible only via a public ferry or private boat. These unspoiled refuges are ideal locations for family picnics, swimming, boating, fishing and shelling. Or take a guided walk led by a park ranger to learn about the many birds which make the islands their home, including endangered species such as the Great Blue Heron, Wood Storks and Snowy White Egrets. Whatever activities you choose, be prepared for peaceful seclusion and a view of Florida in its pristine state.

“Winter get away.”

Reviewed 18 Feb 2017

Four of us stayed for one week, we wish it could have been longer. Our host were great, we were taken out in the 18 ft. boat and shown how to run it and were to fish, it ran like a top.The people staying in the other three units were friendly. The only problem was parking for one car but there was parking on the street. We would recommend this rental.

Owner's reply: Thanks for staying with us at the Captain's Quarters. So glad that you have a great time!! The boats are so much fun for fishing and checking out the beautiful islands. Wish we had more parking but one parking space per unit and one extra guests spot is all we have. Hope to see everyone again Captain Alex and Janet

“Everything you need at Captains Quarters”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2017

We stayed at the Captains Quarters for a week and I wish we had stayed for two. As keen fishermen we took the faultless complementry boat out every day and caught many species of fish, giving us some good sport. The apartment was very well maintained and decorated with every thing you need with a super outdoor balcony overlooking the water where dolphins swam by every day. A good few bars and grills within easy walking distance so didn't need to worry about the driving when going out at night. There are so many islands to explore by boat even if you didn't go fishing, the scenery is stunning. Alex and Janet are lovely people and excellent hosts who couldn't have been more helpful. We look forward to seeing them again in 2017 as we will definately be returning to the Captains Quarters. Absolutely brilliant holiday....Pete and Rick the Fish from England.

Owner's reply: It was wonderful meeting the both of you and so glad you had a great week at the Captain's Quarters. We do love our slice of paradise! See you in August when we come to England.

“Captain's Quarters Rocks”

The condo was simple and clean. We enjoyed the boat and the channel that our back windows faced was beautiful. This experience was by far better than my other experience renting for a week.

Owner's reply: Thanks for staying with us. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Captain's Quarters. Hope to see you and your family again in the future. Thanks Janet and Captain Alex

“Captain's Quarters...Awesome Again!”

Reviewed 28 Dec 2015

This is the 7th or 8th time we have stayed at Captain's Quarters, and each time, our stay has been excellent. The units are immaculate, well appointed, and equipped with everything we could have wanted. Alex and Janet are the perfect hosts, and always make sure that we have everything we need. They are continuously updating and improving the units. Fishing from the boat, and sitting on the deck watching the sea birds and dolphins are some of the highlights of our stays. We will definitely return!

“Perfect in so many ways!”

We had an amazing stay! The location is perfect! Close to beaches, islands for finding awesome seashells, and excellent fishing opportunities. Having the boat to island hop was a nice added touch. Condo was clean and modern. Thank you Janet and Alex!

Owner's reply: Thanks for coming to celebrate your birthday in our little slice of paradise. The boats are fun for island hopping, we were at Three Rooker the other day and found some beautiful shells. Was great seeing you again and meeting your friends. Thanks Janet and Alex

“Captain's quarters.”

My family and I have enjoyed a little slice of paradise. The place was outstanding, clean, well run, and both owners super friendly. Each unit had their own boat so, you could go and explore the beautiful islands of St Joseph sound. Dolphins and birds showed up everydays. There is plenty to do even if you are not a boater, like, riding bikes and discovering peaceful Dunedin. The folks down there are so much nicer and kinder than here in the northeast, I couldn't not believe my ears. Looking back at what we experienced, this was our best vacation EVER.

Owner's reply: Thanks for the great review! We do love our slice of paradise!!! We enjoyed getting to know you and your family while sitting on the dock. See you again next year. All the best Janet and Alex

“Best vacation”

Reviewed 21 Jun 2015

My husband and I just got back from our vacation at Captain's Quaters. The living space was clean, well kept and furnished with everything we would possibly need. Compare this to what you would pay for your average hotel. Captain's Quarters blows any hotel out of the water, and it even comes with a free boat! We took the boat out all day, everyday of our week stay. There were so many islands to explore! During our explorations we saw dolphins, sharks, and manatees. My husband even caught quite a few fish from the boat. The owners are super friendly and are there to help with anything you may need. The location is a 5 minute walk to Frenchy's Outpost ( best grouper sandwich) , a 15 minute drive to Clearwater Beach and Pier 60 and a 5 minute drive from the shops of downtown Dunedin. This is an amazing vacation spot and we will be coming back next year! The accommodations couldn't be better for the price. It was truly a pleasure :)

Owner's reply: Thanks Hannah for the great review! So glad you enjoyed our little slice of paradise. Hope to see you again next year. Janet and Captain Alex

Captain Alex and Janet thought of everything. It felt like friends trusting us with their condo and boat. We enjoyed the entire experience for a week. Loved exploring the barrier islands by boat. We will come back and stay. Thank you we have exploring different vacation spots for 12 years. This one is with repeating.

Owner's reply: You are so welcome! There are some great spots to explore here. Hope to see you again soon. Thanks Janet and Captain Alex

“the friendliest vacation spot in Florida”

Reviewed 19 Mar 2015

The captains quarters is an excellent choice for you next vacation. They are friendly and their condos are clean and right on a canal. This is important as they also give you a boat to use while there. You can go on a charter with the captain on his boat or go in your own boat . They furnish rods and reels give you tips on where to fish along with type of bait. They also have a crab feast one night. I would make reservations early.

Owner's reply: Thanks for the great review!! Boats are great for fishing and island hopping. Hope to see you and your family again Janet and Captain Alex
