Description from owner

Large Lake Home on Very Private Wooded Acre Property --

We've been coming to the Northwoods for over 45 years, with my parents and siblings. And now we have passed along that tradition to our children - who refer to our Wisconsin trips as their most favorite vacations. In 2012, we purchased this cabin/lake house in our most favorite Northwood's location. But between our jobs and the kid's school and activities, we can't make it Up North as often as we would like -- so it just makes sense to occasionally rent the place when we can't be there. Please enjoy our home, as much as we do, and create some family memories of your own in the Northwoods! In the words of our children -- THERE'S NOTHING LIKE A TRIP UP NORTH!

RATES: Please refer to our detailed rate section for seasonal/summer and off-season rates. Reservations may be paid by check or PayPal once the reservation is confirmed.

About the area

The Sugar Camp Chain of Lakes offers a very private, scenic setting surrounded by the American Legion State Forest with minimal shoreline development. Most of the chain's shoreline is either privately owned or under the control of the Wisconsin DNR. The water level is controlled by a dam, so channels are typically accessible to travel between the lakes. Our lake, Echo Lake (at 93 acres; depth 18 ft.), is the smallest lake -- but also the calmest and quietest. There is plenty of room and depth for water sports (such as skiing, tubing, jet skiing, etc.), particularly as the deepest side of the lake is near our property. Likewise activities can expand to the other lakes, which include Chain Lake (201 acres; 19 ft.), Stone Lake (178 acres; 16 ft.), Sand Lake (547 acres; 25 ft.) and Dam Lake (732 acres; 32 ft.). There are three boat ramps between the five lakes – on Chain (preferred), Sand, and Stone Lakes.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

We went tubing, fishing, swam, canoed, jumped off the dock, and boat rides. When I took a look around the whole cabin, I loved it! If I could, I would live here!

All the family was together which doesn’t happen much any more. The five cousins had a good time being together. We went in the water (brrr..) and caught lots of fish (even fried a few). Boating was fun – kayak, canoeing, and motoring. The blueberries found at Stone Lake were a hit! 31 years of vacationing in this area, so had to visit all the old favorites – Paul Bunyan’s, Cathy’s Ice Cream, donut shop, dark chocolate almond bark, etc. Loved the bonfires after a chilly swim. We saw a flying squirrel on the top deck by the bird feeders. The raccoons kept returning to the deck and rolling the garbage can so we had to bring it inside. Love the loon family that is always on the lake and the bald eagle that sat on the new dock! Very nice place…such a nice quiet retreat!

We rented the pontoon boat so it was fun to explore the different lakes! We water skied, wake boarded, paddle boarded, swam, and played a few games (re-discovered Dominoes). We had some campfires and mainly spent time with each other before our oldest goes off to college. We had many repeat deer that came to the backyard. Wow – the bald eagle sightings were especially awe inspiring. The loons were a lot of fun to watch and listen to as well. We had a wonderful week here! It was an adventure to discover the “North Woods” as a family. There was something for everyone. We enjoyed the lakes, discovered the bike trail out of Eagle River, shopped a little, ate a lot, and just enjoyed being together in the quiet. Great Friday night fish fry at the Black Bear Lodge near St. Germain. Be prepared to wait, but it’s worth it!

The temperatures were perfect for swimming – 85-90 and sunny. We swam a lot!! Fished, went out on boat rides, swam some more. Shopped a little in Eagle River, swam more, campfires and dinner around the fire – and did I mention we swam! Deer came right up to the feeder in the backyard – also a bear crossed the road while going to town! The kids favorite things were swimming, ice cream at Cathy’s, seeing all the animals, going out to eat, playing in the sand, and fishing. Our favorite memories were watching the kids swim, laugh, and have so much fun!

Many hours on a boat tubing. Many good times together hanging out playing games (Pass the Pig, Monopoly, Yahtzee, and Trivial Pursuit). We went to the Tipsy Turtle Pub (in Eagle River) when it was too chilly. Daily we saw deer, loons, an osprey, chipmunks, and squirrels. Good times at Pitliks after a long boat ride and a Bald Eagle on the way to Sand Lake. We had bonfires with color packets to make the fire look like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. We hope to return next year for more smiles and laughter.

Oh my! We rented the pontoon boat, and it was fantastic! We also used the rowboat with our own motor and caught many fish. Enjoyed the campfire, what a nice touch. We fed the birds and the deer. We saw beaver, pheasant, deer, etc. There was a deer in the driveway when we arrived. How wonderful! We say many Bald Eagles while we were boating on Sand Lake. Incredible! And we saw an otter swimming in the lake very early on our last morning! We had a wonderful breakfast at the 3 C’s Café (in St. Germain) – Yummy! And loved our favorite dinner place – Golden Pines in St. Germain! This house, this setting is so perfect. Thank you so much for sharing your gift with our family!
