Description from owner

We invite you to stay in our comfortably and tastefully decorated 1840 four-bedroom PA German Farmhouse and cozy Smokehouse Guest Cottage with fireplace and loft nestled in the middle of 83 acres of rolling Pennsylvania countryside. The Pennsylvania Farmhouse is a simple log frame structure with white German siding with two front doors, typical architecture for the mid-1800's. The cottage, just steps away from the farmhouse, has a large central stone fireplace and was used as a smokehouse and summer kitchen in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The property has a beautifully fenced in-ground pool, Pennsylvania bank barn, 3-car garage, lovely views, and privacy. Our farmhouse is registered as a Civil War Building (built prior to 1863) and has received recognition from Historic Gettysburg-Adams County, Inc. as a home restored to its original 1840's era. World-wide travelers will find many French and European touches, including original art, classic and contemporary books, and handmade pottery in both the farmhouse and cottage.

Sleeping Accommodations:

PA German Farmhouse (sleeps up to 8): Our beautifully simple and classicly historic PA German farmhouse has four bedrooms on the second floor, three with a double bed and one with two single beds. All are furnished with antique dressers, desks, and lovely bed linens.

Pre-Civil War-era Smokehouse Guest Cottage (sleeps 2-4): This cozy country cottage has one loft-style bedroom with double bed on the second floor and a comfortable pull-out sofa bed (double bed, which sleeps 2) in the living room. The huge fireplace (currently not usable) in the center of the cottage was once used by early farmers to smoke meats. It was later used as a summer kitchen to cook and can fruits and vegetables that were grown on the property.

Writer's Studio: We also have a small Writer's Studio on the property which has 2 twin beds and is available at the cost of $75/night (no tax) if you have more than 12 people.

“Hospitality A+, Location A+, Relaxation A+”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2013

There is not enough room in this review box to tell you all the wonderful things about our stay in this wonderful farmhouse and the hospitality of its wonderful owners. If you are looking for a relaxing family vacation with downtown Gettysburg close by, look no more, this is it!! Eleven reenactors from Florida planned our stay for July 2013 to coincide with the 150th Anniversary of the battles at Gettysburg. Staying in a home that stood during the battles, just seemed perfect...and it was! As reenactors, we had to be at the event daily, so some of us stayed at the farmhouse while choosing to drive back and forth, and then some of us stayed at the event in period clothing while camping overnight, so our location couldn't have been better. We avoided all of the 150th Anniversary traffic in downtown Gettysburg, but yet we were still close enough to be able to experience all that downtown had to offer before and after the 150th activities started for that week. Once the battle events started at the Redding Farm, we were just minutes away. After our first day at the farmhouse, it felt like home, and we started calling it that! We found the pool exceptionally inviting and refreshing after spending the day in our period clothing at the reenactment. The entire house including the bedrooms are tastefully decorated in keeping with the 1840s theme of the farmhouse. There is plenty of room to spread out, even with eleven of us. The landscape at the farm is beautiful and some chose to sneak out to the porch swing to have their morning coffee. I could also see some local fireworks from the back lawn on July 4. But this is just a house...what makes it a home is its wonderful owners. The owners take a lot of pride in their farmhouse, and love to have others experience it. They are great communicators before, during, and after your stay, and will go above and beyond to make your stay stress free. They will help you with everything and anything that you need, including telling you about their favorite local restaurants, one of which turned out to be the perfect little Italian place in downtown East Berlin. Again, I could go on and on about our stay at the Anthony Farm. Even the locals that found out we were staying there, were envious. Our stay at the Anthony Farm further highlighted our attendance at the 150th Anniversary of the battles at Gettysburg, and has definitely become one for our personal history book, and we look forward to

The farm house is wonderful place to stay with a large group. We had eleven adults and one child and were all comfortable. The house and grounds are beautiful. The pool is magnificent. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing place to vacation.

“What more can one ask for”

We came to Gettysburg for a Soccer Tournament and stayed at this lovely property. The home was very clean and cozy when we arrived. We had to accomodate an army of teenage boys and this was the perfect place to do so. We all had an amazing time and felt at home right away. Each room had so much attention to detail and one can tell that those who stay here truely appreciate and respect the property. The pool was perfect for a late afternoon after spending multiple hours in the heat. The owners continuously kept contact with us to insure we were ok and did not need anything. Thank you for trusting in us to care for your home with the small army we had. Looking forward to next year already. Thanks again Barbara and Forry!! Your friends from Crofton Soccer.

“perfect getaway”

We had the pleasureof staying at this beautiful farmhouse for 5 days. Even the rainy weather could not dampen our enthusiasm for the great place! The property was beautiful. The accomodations were comfortable. The decor was very homey and welcoming. The owners made our stay easier by having little notes about the idiosyncracies that an old farmhouse would have! There was everything you could need for your stay, from picnic tables and cloths, towels for the gorgeous pool and a notebook of area restaurants and points of interest. The owners were very efficient in getting us a contract and returning our deposit after our stay. We loved our experience there and would recommend it to everyone.

“Old Farm House”

Reviewed 19 Apr 2011

Our stay was outstanding. If you are into old period homes and antiques (as my wife and I are) then this is the place for you. The location is close to several great tourist spots. If you want seclusion it has that also. The owners are top rate to deal with.

“A must see!”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2009

We loved this property. The farmhouse and little cottage are just adorable. The owner is clearly devoted to this place. The yard and swimming pool are beautiful. There is so much to see and do in Gettysburg, which is only about 15 minutes away. This place is geared toward a family, but would also be suitable for lots of couples. The owners have already thought of everything, all you need to do is pack your bags. We give this rental a solid 10!
