Description of the East Machias vacation cottage rental
This location at Cathance Lake is truly spectacular - a genuine classic Downeast Maine lakefront setting. Spring fed, Cathance Lake is exceptionally clean, and considered one of the finest deepwater lakes in Maine. Relatively undisturbed, and known for its substantial populations of loons and salmon, a substantial portion of the lake has protected "Forever Wild" status via an easement from the Nature Conservancy.
The lake is located approximately 100 miles east of Bangor, Maine, - in the heart of the unspoiled Downeast Maine interior. It is an excellent base from which to explore the region.

Quiet and secluded, the cabin has an an unrestricted, and expansive view of the lake,. The cottage is located directly on the shore - the distance from the deck to the lake; 3500 acres of spring fed water - is less than 4 feet !

There are no other rental units on the property. Formerly used as a Maine canoe outfitting base for over 40 years, this historic property has now reverted to a small private compound. The property is 4 acres, with docks, wooded trails, a small camping area, garden, and several outdoor fireplaces. The property offers a rustic ambiance and atmosphere- dating back to the 1930's - that has attracted visitors to return for decades.

There is a 35 foot floating dock in front of the cottage, with a platform and Adirondack bench. There is a second smaller dock, with a rocker - that has long been considered an 'icon' of Cathance Lake. The swimming - in spring fed water - is superb; there is a small protected shallow entry area directly in front of the camp. Known primarily as salmon lake, fishing for smallmouth bass is excellent in the summer months. The lake is over 3000 acres, with several distinct sections. Canoes are included with the rental.

The Managers Cottage has three bedrooms, it is ideal for one or two couples or a small family. The cottage has all the modern facilities, is totally equipped for cooking - and was totally renovated several years ago.

This rental offers a large private property - with plenty of room, and privacy, to relax and enjoy one of the finest settings in eastern Maine.

Subject: Thank you - we loved the cottage

Martin,

We just wanted to thank you again for the opportunity to rent your cottage. It was a great week, the location perfect and accommodations exactly what we were expecting. I look forward to remembering our week in Downeast Maine on beautiful Cathance Lake during the long winter and anticipating our return next summer. In fact, we may make the trip for two weeks next year, time permitting in our schedules.

My sons enjoyed fishing out of the canoe and I fished out of the kayak. We caught loads of smallmouth bass and happily report they will be there next year as we prefer catch and release only.

We traveled to the coast, and loved whale watching and Lubec, as well as charter fishing out of Eastport. I attended the Native American Day and was part of a native American prayer. Our dogs loved the lake and swam daily as well as walked the woods road each morning. Jasper beach in Rogues Bluff, was a nice stop, and I have several Jasper stones around my property. In other words, we all found what we were looking for and more.

By the way, Portland was a great way to begin our trip, and a long uneventful drive home, with wonderful memories, was a great way to end it.

Thank you again,

Corinne, Tom and John Brewer

We had the best time. I am so glad we were able to experience your camp/cottage - loved it. We did also get to see much of the area: Rogue Bluffs, Lubec, Reversing Falls, Cambobello Island, Eastport and of course Machias. The lake was beautiful and we had some great adventures in the canoe. All in all a terrific trip.
We'd definitely like to come back again and thanks for considering us for a repeat visit.
Best,
Kala

Wonderful setting; just perfect for the four of us. Best sunrises, and sunsets you could imagine. Thanks for use of the canoes (and the firewood!) Wwe did not catch salmon that week - but that has to be the clearest and cleanest lake we have ever seen. And it was quiet.
Thanks again for your hospitality; hopefully we will see you again next season.

JT & MS, Chelmsford,MA

Please keep us on your mailing list, as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your cabin.  If anyone has any questions of how wonderful it is prior to renting, I would be happy to speak with anyone regarding how wonderful our stay was.  I have to say, that the week we spent there was one of the best times of our lives.  The accomodations were exactly what we were looking for, rustic, yet comfortable, Martin was so nice, and accomodating to us, and having access to the canoe's was very nice.  We hope to return in the future!
