Description of the East Machias vacation cottage rental
This location at Cathance Lake is truly spectacular - a genuine classic Downeast Maine lakefront setting. Spring fed, Cathance Lake is exceptionally clean, and considered one of the finest deepwater lakes in Maine. Relatively undisturbed, and known for its substantial populations of loons and salmon, a substantial portion of the lake has protected "Forever Wild" status via an easement from the Nature Conservancy.
The lake is located approximately 100 miles east of Bangor, Maine, - in the heart of the unspoiled Downeast Maine interior. It is an excellent base from which to explore the region.

Quiet and secluded, the cabin has an an unrestricted, and expansive view of the lake,. The cottage is located directly on the shore - the distance from the deck to the lake; 3500 acres of spring fed water - is less than 4 feet !

There are no other rental units on the property. Formerly used as a Maine canoe outfitting base for over 40 years, this historic property has now reverted to a small private compound. The property is 4 acres, with docks, wooded trails, a small camping area, garden, and several outdoor fireplaces. The property offers a rustic ambiance and atmosphere- dating back to the 1930's - that has attracted visitors to return for decades.

There is a 35 foot floating dock in front of the cottage, with a platform and Adirondack bench. There is a second smaller dock, with a rocker - that has long been considered an 'icon' of Cathance Lake. The swimming - in spring fed water - is superb; there is a small protected shallow entry area directly in front of the camp. Known primarily as salmon lake, fishing for smallmouth bass is excellent in the summer months. The lake is over 3000 acres, with several distinct sections. Canoes are included with the rental.

The Managers Cottage has three bedrooms, it is ideal for one or two couples or a small family. The cottage has all the modern facilities, is totally equipped for cooking - and was totally renovated several years ago.

This rental offers a large private property - with plenty of room, and privacy, to relax and enjoy one of the finest settings in eastern Maine.
