Great location, rundown house

July 15, 2013

While in a great location and a long walk or short drive down to a private section of Nauset Beach, this home had clearly not been cleaned when we moved in, and smelled like it had just been opened up after being closed all winter - a damp, musty, mildewy odor permeated the house. We complained to the management company and they sent over cleaners on Monday (our 2 week rental started on Saturday). The cleaners did an excellent job, thankfully, though we lived with a dirty, bug-filled house for 2 1/2 of our 14 rental days. We are long-time renters on the Cape, and we recognize that humidity is always a problem with houses closed up for the winter and spring, but this house had cracked and peeling paint on some interior walls and ceilings, doors and windows that swelled in the humidity and were difficult to open or close, badly outdated appliances, faucets, etc. In all, it struck as a house badly in need of a major renovation. Again, not unusual on the Cape, but we were surprised to find it in this neighborhood, given the rental fees we paid. While we would rent in the neighborhood again, we would not rent this house again.

Owner's reply:

This property is a rustic, Sea Captain type style cottage in the exclusive Pochet Assoc. This has the best Nauset Beach access that there is. The property is exactly 2/10ths of a mile from this access. It is definitely not for everyone & when a reservation is made the home is described just as this, a rustic cottage in a great location. If it is a renovated home you are looking for, this is not it. The location is what you pay for here. We have several repeat families that love it :)

Classic Cape Home

July 24, 2012

We loved this house. It is old and full of character, but well taken care of. Reminded us of a cross between an artist's home and an old sea captain's home. Lots of nice windows and a great screen porch, did not miss having AC at all. Yard was big and very private. Walk to the beach took about 10 minutes from the home, but there was always parking at the little private lot at the walk out. Beautiful section of Nauset beach. We intend to rent this home again.

great location

Ideal location. Very private, relaxing surroundings. Beautiful beach. House is somewhat overpriced. Superficially cleaned only, disappointing given the price point and cleaning fee.
