Description from owner

The Chaika is a lovely house on a secluded lot at the end of a street with no other house adjacent and no thru traffic. Beautiful live oak in front gives a nice view out the glassed-in porch. Only a short 5-minute walk to the beach on a rarely-used sandy drive. And less than a 5-minute drive to St. Helena sound for calmer waters and great beach combing. Chaika means "seagull" in Russian - read the owner description for why we chose that name.

No reviews on this site yet, but if you look us up on Airbnb (same name) or Vacation Home Escapes you'll see several. We had 30 on VRBO averaging 5-star, but quit listing there due to price gouging of us and our guests.

4 bedrooms with beds for 10 people comfortably, plus a full-size futon on the enclosed glass porch. 2 full baths plus private shower downstairs. Large open area in center of house to gather - spacious kitchen, dining area, and living room all connected and open. A great house for families and friends to connect! And we are pet friendly.

Equipped with reverse osmosis water filter, but also close to water tower for drinking water supply. High speed WiFi and cable TV. Everything laid out and furnished for simplicity, convenience, and community.

The family that owns this house has been visiting Edisto for over 30 years, so there are many fond memories and love poured into this property. We welcome renters who are looking forward to building some great memories of time with family and friends in this lovely setting. It was first newly listed in 2012 - we enjoy hosting people who have made Chaika an annual tradition as well as introducing new guests to this great home.

During the peak season (June 4-Aug 20) we rent only on a weekly basis, Sat/Sat. Off season, we have more flexibility as to duration and have more room to negotiate.

About the area

Edisto is a wonderful, relaxing family beach without the crowds, traffic, noise, (and costs!) of other SC beaches. Great for beach combing, early morning walks, lovely sunsets over the sound, and pleasant, homey restaurants. Only 45 minutes to all the sites and activities of Charleston, definitely a trip worth making on one of the days here. Our family loves the Gilligan's Seafood just off Rt 17 toward John's Island. We like the quietness and family, noncommercial atmosphere of Edisto Beach. The house Chaika complements that by being very comfortable, relatively secluded yet convenient to the beach, laid out perfectly for being together to enjoy a meal, a game of cards, a movie, or evening conversation.

Interaction with guest

Our property is managed by a local Realtor who will make sure the house is well-cleaned prior to your arrival, they will get the keys to you, be available for advice and resources for things to do, and be on call should anything go amiss. We live in the Atlanta area, so unfortunately, we rarely have the opportunity to meet our guests in person.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

Our other site had 27 reviews since we put the house in service in 2013 - 25 5-star, 2 4-star. All very positive. I have added the text of a few of those above. We discontinued that site due to changes in their business model that didn't work for us.

Our first trip to Edisto and The Chaiaka House was Labor Day weekend 2015. We loved it so much, my daughter booked it for our whole family the week of June 18 - 25, 2016. My husband, myself, five grown children and two grandchildren all stayed and enjoyed everything about our accommodations. The children were as excited about bunk beds as they were the beach! I loved the opportunity to reserve same house (if done at check out) for the same dates next year. Unfortunately, with my stage IV cancer, I can't plan that far ahead but would definitely be an annual occupant if health allowed. Thank you for sharing your home with my family to make some wonderful memories.

We rented this house as an overflow home for a family reunion on Edisto Island. We loved it! The location is quiet and close to the beach. It is spacious enough that everyone was comfortably accommodated. We even had folks joining us from the other rental to enjoy the peace and quiet. I could have spent the entire week on the porch, reading, writing, and reveling in the warmth and the gentle, cool breezes. The kitchen was very well outfitted; cooking was a treat. The owners are great -- very responsive and easy to deal with. Can't wait to go back!

Our family had such a wonderful time at Edisto. Our favorite part was Chaika! The house was spotless and had everything we needed. Jim was so helpful getting us set up for a last-minute arrival. We love the secluded location and were able to truly rest and enjoy being together as a family. Thank you so much for opening your home to us! We can't wait to come back.

This was our first stay at Chaika and we enjoyed every minute!! The house is comfortable with everything that you need. The location is on a dead end street so it is very quiet and peaceful. We were greeted by deer a few times upon returning to the house in the evening. The owners are great with communication and the reality company is also easy to deal with. We have already booked our stay for next year!!

Chaika was the perfect house for two families to enjoy a dreamy spring break week together. Large and well stocked kitchen w plenty of counter space. Bar seating for six plus six at the table, a four top on the sun porch and seating for 10 under the house for outdoor dining. Saw sweet deer and found plenty of treasures at the beach. Botany Bay and the state park trails and nature center are must sees. We enjoyed meals at finn's and whaley's but mostly ate in. Love how Chaika is at the end of the road, secluded, and a short shady walk to the beach. The climbing tree out front was delightful. We enjoyed the two adult bikes provided and brought our kids' bikes. We grilled twice. Great house - u can feel all the love and memories there beckoning u to form ur own!!!

Loved the set-up of the whole house. It was so comfortable and perfect for having small children along! The short walk to the beach was wonderful and we loved how quiet the whole town was in general! So calm and relaxing. Would definitely return!!!
