Description of the Edisto Island vacation home rental
Welcome to San Russ Point on Edisto Island! As they say: location, location, location! Located on a peninsula between Sand Creek and Russell Creek, this property enjoys wonderful breezes not found inland. You will enjoy this isolate natural location. If you like bird watching you are likely to see bald eagles sitting in the trees, wood storks, woodpeckers and many kinds of water birds. If you like sitting on the dock and fishing you can catch a variety of fish right off of our dock. You will see dolphins swimming down Russell Creek and are welcome to use our sea kayak to paddle though small inlets that lead into the marsh. Perhaps you would like to go crabbing off of the dock. If you like to walk you can go a mile down a dirt road and only see five houses - you see lots of wilderness. Down the road are large ponds that have lots of wildlife.

Better than a typical beach vacation, our guest house provides access to the unique nature and beauty of the Low Country's rich tidal creeks and marshes, as well as easy access by car to Edisto Island's historic landmarks, State Parks and local sites. Bring your boat to enjoy fishing, water sports, and remote beaches, utilizing our boat ramp and deep-water dock. The Atlantic Ocean and Bohicket Marina are a short 20-minute boat ride away. It is 10 miles to Edisto Beach down highway 174. There is a good farmers market a short drive, as well as a very good seafood store to buy shimp if you do not want to catch them yourself.

More is available at our site edistohouse . Bring your bikes and a kayak/canoe to fully explore land and sea. Enjoy leisurely walks down country roads and forest paths. Or simply relax in the sun or shade with a glass of iced tea.

San Russ Point gives you access to the best of the South Carolina Low Country. Local attractions include historic churches and plantations; Edisto Beach and State Park; seasonal treats such as the Edisto Island Serpentarium, Bingo at the Lions' Club, and blueberry picking; the ACE Basin; Cypress Gardens; and of course, the beautiful town of Charleston.

My brother bought this property in 1962 and we feel it is one of the most beautiful piece of property on Edisto Island because it is on a peninsula in a protected area. This give miles of undisturbed land surrounding the house. If you walk a mile up the dirt road you only see a few houses - instead you see lots of wildlife. As I write this, there are Wood Storks walking near the house and I can see miles out over the wetlands. The house is on a part of Edisto called Little Edisto Island, on the end of Russell Creek road, between Russell and Sand Creek.

All around our 40 acre property there are protected areas - the picture to the right is me kayaking with my Springer Spaniel. We just started renting this house last year and rented it about 15 times. We love sharing our beautiful place so much we decided to let people know about it on the WEB. Make sure you visit our site link above or at Edistohouse .

Area Information
Edisto Island has thousands of acres of preserved land ( half Edisto's land is protected). There is a large state park which offers hikes down the beach or bike rides down trails that go over wooden bike bridges.

One can picnic at the State Park after swimming in the surf and showering. We drive to beach or take our motor boat to some of the small uninhabited barrier islands that are at the mouth of the Intracoastal Waterway and then the ocean (you should have a 4' chain on your anchor if you go to the barrier islands).

We like to go strawberry picking in late May/early June and blueberry picking in June/early July. It is possible to buy fresh vegetables about five miles down Edisto's only two lane highway. There are some fun restaurants on the island but we prefer buy or catch fresh seafood and vegetables to cook at home for most meals. There is excellent golf course on the Island and miles of preserved beachfront. We like to crab off of our dock, fish in the creeks and ocean for bass, trout and flounder. We enjoy the many wonderful birds that visit and live on the property including many endangered species.

Charleston is a wonderful city/town with a rich heritage and great shopping. There are some fantastic restaurants.

One great thing about our property is there are nice breezes which makes it pleasant during the hot times of the year and is good for sailing small boats. There are fun areas to explore by kayak and nice walks to take all over the island.
