“Highly recommend it! Enjoy! :o)”
We stayed at Pamela's House for six nights over the Holiday Break and we highly recommend this place. Pamela and Claudette were very easy, reliable, and friendly in communications. Everything - house, property, and Esterillos Centro - perfectly fit our needs. The house happened to be exactly as advertised: - a small bungalow 40 yards from the ocean located on a compact but nice property in a quiet area - 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 living room/kitchen - nice roofed deck with hammocks and chairs overlooking the ocean - clean and grassy backyard, where we were able even to play volleyball! The property surroundings are simple, but the place is clean and well organized (nice closets and shelves!), so it was more than enough for our family of 4 (2 adult + 2 teenagers). We were mainly cooking for ourselves (rather than going out) and had no problems with doing it. Kitchen is fully functional for simple vacation cooking endeavors. Although, we would suggest one essential improvement for it - a microwave, which would allow one to warm up leftovers from the previous meal! The property manager, Claudette, lives just 400 yards from the premises and is a very nice and friendly person, she is extremely responsive and responsible. She can be contacted either directly at her home/office or called over the landline phone from the bungalow. Even if not at the office, she has her cell phone handy and picked up every time we called. We asked her for help several times and it was always a pleasure to deal with her. Claudette made our stay worry-free not only for minor maintenance issues, but also for organizing our activities - giving us suggestions what to do and contacting local people for appointments and negotiating prices for us. Count on her :o)! Overall, we were looking for a nice not-crowded place to switch off and relax from the crazy New York City life style, take surfing lessons and do occasional nature sightseeing trips. We got what we were looking for - Pamela's House at Esterillos Centro proved to be ideal for our purposes and we highly recommend it! Enjoy!
Owner's reply: Wonderful to hear you enjoyed your time at our house. If you return...take advantage of our return visitor discount. I love the idea of a microwave...and will give some thought where to put it in or near the kitchen. Again ...it makes me very happy to know you and your family had fun!! Pamela
“Pura Vida on the Pacific”
We stayed at a cottage in Esterillos Centro for our honeymoon during the tourist low season. The small village was about 1 1/2 hours drive from San Jose, a 30 minuted bus ride from Jaco, and about 45 minutes from Quepos/ Manuel Antonio. The pacific ocean was about 50 yards from our front door. The beach was usually absent of people except for the weekend when a few locals come out. The cottage was adequate for our needs but could use some updating in its furnishings and kitchen supplies. However, the manager and housekeeper were on their jobs. Issues were immediately addressed and cleaning was frequent. The village had a really cool bar that served up great music, fabulous food and a lively clientele. Our next door neighbors on both sides were great people from the U.S. who live permanently in Costa Rica. They were friendly and helpful. Public transportation was great and allowed us to get everywhere we needed to on the bus for cheap. I would definitely return although probably to upgraded accommodations. October is the rainy season and that is what it did, every day. Most of the time it rained in the evening but there were a couple of days when we were rained out. Beware of the mosquitoes. They are treacherous. Do some research and find out what local people use to repel them. Otherwise, they will have a field day on your blood. There have been no reports about Zika in Costa Rica so you'll just itch and scratch a lot. Overall the visit was wonderful. If you want to stay off the beaten path yet close enough to the action, Esterillos (Central, East or West) are a good bet. Pura Vida!
Owner's reply: Very pleased you enjoyed your honeymoon and Centro. I also valued your comment "could use some updating." For me that is the most important part of my relationship with our many quests. Your feedback will help us constantly improve our cottage and the quality of your stay. So thanks for that. I'll contact you directly on this. We want you to come again and we'll do everything we can to make that happen. Pura Vida Pamela
“perfect if you are looking for peace and happiness”
I had booked this cottage for 7 days after 3 days I was lucky enough to extend it to 10 days it was bliss! I brought my dogs and i was not sorry as long as your pups get along with other dogs they will be in heaven. They had fun every day running the beach with the neighborhood dogs. The cottage is on a dead end road with 4 other occupied houses with some of the nicest neighbors you could ever have. The restaurant a few yards away was great bar food and amazing company. I did have one costa rica moment where i lost power at 6am i let Claudette know and she immediately responded. It was an iguana in the breaker box who decided to short it out.. I'm happy to say the power was restored as soon as the electrician finished his lunch and the iguana lived! these are paradise problems! One warning, the neighbor warned me about the mangoes from the tree out back hitting the metal roof will cause a startling noise, glad he told me because it would have scared me but again .... paradise problems..... This is a great place to escape the rat race, close enough to get supplies at a grocery store 10 min away and far enough to find peace...... Blessings pamela and claudette i will be back!!!
Owner's reply: WOW! So glad you and the dogs enjoyed our home....sounds like you took advantage of all the area has to offer. Come back soon and Thank YOU!! Pamela
“Great location, great house, perfect getaway”
My girlfriend and I stayed at the house, which was literally on the beach, for 4 days and wish we had booked for several more. The location is convenient for partaking in all the adventurous activities Costa Rica has to offer: ATV tours, surf lessons, fishing trips, monkey/sloth watching in Manual Antonio and horseback riding on the beach. I would recommend you rent a car to reach all of the spots during your trip. The real gem is the surfing, and the area might be the best in the world. If you're experienced, you're in heaven at Playa Hermosa or out front of the house. If you're a beginner, there are plenty of great guides in Esterillos Oeste (Brett's Boards is the one I'd recommend for beginners) to learn. It was my GF's first time and the highlight of her trip. With stunning ocean views from a breezy front patio complete with hammock, the house is as perfect for staying in to relax as it is for heading out for adventure. We saw two of the most amazing sunsets I had ever seen. I'd also recommend heading to Los Almendros for an amazing meal close by in Esterillos Oeste. Thank you both Pamela and Claudette for being such amazing hosts, I'm hoping we'll be back soon!
Owner's reply: Makes me wish I was there right now.! It is an amazing place.
“Great location & views”
This is the second time we've stayed at this beach house. We really enjoyed our stay again. The home is located on a secluded oceanfront dirt road. It's about 25 mins south of Jaco & Los Suenos. I recommend a sunset dinner at Villa Caletas. The Rafa Tour is an amazing journey of the mangroves and experience with his family of monkeys. Mistico is a must too. Alma del Pacifico Beach Restaurant is 10 mins south and has great food! Book your adventures with Claudia, the manager.
Owner's reply: Twice is not enough!! Looking forward to seeing you again soon. All my best Pamela and Claudette
“Location! Location! Location!”
Location is definitely the best thing about this rental. We loved being on the beach in a very quiet location. We spent our days reading while sitting in the loungers on the front porch. We also loved being able to bring our dogs with us. Finding a pet-friendly rental is difficult indeed. The three things I think would improve the property is a better shower head, hot water in the kitchen, and a microwave. Thank you for two wonderful days :)
There's so much to say about this place. Between the tide changes, the waves breaking, the birds singing, there's not much more that one needs to feel at peace with one's self. The neighbor's are the best, charter boat captain, horse rental's, fresh seafood, excellent restaurant connected to the filling station 1/2 a mile away. Secluded beach as far as you can see. We will be back and couldn't have asked for a more memorable vacation on our first visit to Costa Rica!
Owner's reply: Hollly...I am so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed yourself and we look forward to seeing you again next year when we can offer our returning client discount. Pura Vida! Pamela
“If you're looking for tranquility, serenity, peace”
Pros: We just got back from spending a month in what turned out to be a little paradise. if you want peace and quiet in a small fisherman's village, look no further. The house is about 50 feet from the beach, you can see the ocean while preparing your sunset rhum punch. If you're into eating fresh fish, the local fisherman is about 300 feet from the house and can supply you every day with freshly caught red snapper. We have been all over Costa Rica and have rented beach houses on a lot of different beaches and all I can tell you is that this house is different. The quietness of the surroundings makes it very special for us. The place is managed by a French Canadian woman who really takes to heart the well-being of her customers. At one point, I called her complaining about a water faucet that was not working properly, within 5 minutes, her handyman was at the house evaluating the problem and within the hour he was back with a replacement faucet, we were really impressed. She is an extremely helpful woman and will answer any request you might have in a very quick manner. Just before leaving, we made a reservation for another month next year. Cons: If you are looking for action and want to go out and party every night, this place is not for you.
Owner's reply: So glad to hear your experience was great and look forward to your return next year! All my best Pamela
“Relaxation at its best!”
We spent a few days of complete rest, watching the sea from our porch. Very comfortable cottage. We hope to return soon.
Owner's reply: Wonderful to hear from you Ana and to know you enjoyed your few days at our cottage. And, when you return let me know so we can give you our return client discount. Pura Vida Pamela Benepe
My sister, mom and I had such a lovely time down at your home in Costa Rica! It was perfectly relaxing with morning swims, afternoon reading on the porch and evening walks on the beach. It was a great jumping off point for other excursions as well. The car rental, and all the logistics actually, were incredible easy and smooth. You have a very special place down there.. thank you for sharing it!!
Owner's reply: Thank you Jessica for your kind words. And, of course you are welcome anytime. All my best Pamela
