About the area

From visit Estes Park site: "Situated about 90 miles northwest of Denver, at 7,522 feet above sea level, Estes Park sits in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Majestic views span in every direction along with the majestic scenes you expect from a Colorado mountain town-gold-medal fishing rivers, iconic peaks, fertile valleys dotted with wildlife-plus one unexpected treasure, a national park. Rocky Mountain National Park, home to 300 miles of hiking trails within 415 square miles of protected mountain wilds, borders Estes Park at its eastern entrance. Since the late 1860s when Griff Evans established a dude ranch here, Estes Park has been welcoming guests with spectacular scenery and hospitality to match. Nearly 50 years later, F.O. Stanley of steam car fame further perpetuated the town's reputation as a resort destination when he opened his sophisticated namesake hotel. And on goes the rich history and notable legacy of offering guests an experience like no other. Not surprisingly, mountain exploration remains a mainstay. Outdoor adventures run the gamut from hiking to snowshoeing to rock climbing. Scenic drives show off the area, with Trail Ridge Road rising through the national park to more than 12,000 feet and several others wending through the valley, past historic landmarks and parallel to the fish-filled picturesque rivers. In the village and along its edges, merchants, restaurants and accommodations acknowledge their Colorado surroundings by selling locally made products, serving regional fare and decorating in ranch, Western or lodge styles. Affordable, accessible and open year-round, the downtown exudes a casual feel in which jeans and cowboy boots are as common as sundresses and flip-flops. That said, some restaurants also cater to travelers seeking an upscale night out. Even in the shops and galleries, variety spins from high-end, one-of-a-kind items to whimsical trinkets. Wildlife is so plentiful that elk often wander downtown streets. Visitors spy them and other animals while walking the path around Lake Estes, driving toward the Historic Fall River Hydroplant or touring Estes Park's last remaining working cattle ranch, MacGregor Ranch. Sometimes, it seems, the region's furry creatures outnumber the humans! With all its adventures and amenities, including the bench-lined Riverwalk and charming sculpture garden, it's no wonder that Estes Park repeatedly earns recognition as a top destination. It has earned awards from TripAdvisor, Colorado Parent, the Weather Channel and many Colorado newspapers. After all, it boasts a strong history-and present-of hosting visitors with an authentic easiness that's congruent with a dream getaway to Rocky Mountain paradise."

“Great location”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2016

This is our second stay in this lovely home. In addition to its comfortable charm you get the additional benefit of up close wildlife viewing. In May, we had elk viewing everyday in the backyard and on the golf course. In September, we got to watch the elk rut up and down the golf course next to the backyard. We sat comfortably on the balcony and watched the elk Bulls lock horns over their harems. It was awesome and the main reason we came to Estes in the early fall. The house location, furnishings and amenities make any stay enjoyable. It is easy to feel at home in this lovely house. The only drawback is having to leave.

Owner's reply: We love watching the Elk in the Fall - it is always quite a show! Thanks for your kind words and for staying with us again! Hope to hear from you for next year!

June 2015: So close to everything yet we felt so secluded once in the home. The view out the back of the golf course was awesome, not to mention the herds of elk that came right outside our door every night to nibble on the greens! What a treat! House is huge and very well maintained. Clean and well decorated. A great choice!

May 2015: We had a lovely time. Enjoyed watching the elk on the golf course every day, the humming bird that visited the feeder on the deck, walking around the neighborhood and path and shopping downtown. The pilot light went out in the fireplace and John walked us through the process of lighting it on the phone. The beds were comfortable - even the pillows. We would recommend this home if you are visiting Estes Park!

June 2015: What a wonderful home! We spent the week of our daughter's wedding there, and it was absolutely perfect. It is spacious, equipped with everything needed (and lots of extras) the views are amazing, and we loved watching the elk and their calves wandering near us on the golf course. Sarah was so quick to answer any question and a dream to work with. The only negative thing about the house was having to leave!

Sept 2015: This cabin was absolutely perfect for our family! The views from all rooms, particularly the large picture windows in the living room are fabulous. We loved the location as it allowed our group to come and go as we pleased, especially since we only had one car. The cabin is ideally located on the 2nd hole of the golf course, along the Big Thompson River, next to the lovely 4 mile paved walking/biking trail around Lake Estes and also leads to the Visitor Center (with free shuttles to numerous locations) and town. The marina at the lake rents bikes, kayaks, and fishing poles which was a nice addition to all the hiking in nearby RMNP. Since we cooked most of our meals it was nice to have the local Safeway close by also. The cabin is charming and had plenty of space and seating areas. Each evening we watched the elk and the geese from the lovely back porch. The owners have done a wonderful job outfitting the cabin for a comfortable stay. We look forward to a return trip!

Oct 2015: This home was perfect for our family of 6 to enjoy a long weekend. Plenty of space for 4 kids to run around and lots of beds for napping and sleeping at night. Our kids are 6 yrs, 4 yrs, 3 yrs, and 2 yrs, and we felt like we had plenty of space for everyone to enjoy themselves. The back yard was great for playing and we even had Elk all over the golf course for most of our stay! We would sit on the back porch and just watch the Elk. The kids loved it. Nice short walk to downtown Estes and easy drive to RMNP. Very clean and has everything you need and more (the kitchen had more than most rentals we've stayed in). Sarah was excellent to work with. We would definitely stay here again.
