Description from manager
In the morning, gather around the cozy stone fireplace to savor your morning coffee while looking out at the towering pines just outside the large living room window. Enjoy a delicious breakfast of warm oatmeal with fresh apples, walnuts, and cinnamon along with a glass of cold milk at the cozy breakfast nook with seating for 2. After breakfast, meander into the spacious Carolina room, open the windows, and spend time writing, drawing, or painting as you feel the cool mountain breeze and steal an occasional glance of the woodland views all around for inspiration.
The cottage is located within the quaint village of Flat Rock just 10 minutes from downtown Hendersonville, Skytop Orchard, Flat Rock Playhouse, and the Carl Sandburg Home. Within the historical site, you’ll find the Glassy Mountain trail that climbs to the flat summit at an elevation of 2783’ after passing through a forest filled with large white pines. To experience stunning sunset views, be sure to check out Jump Off Rock, located just 5 miles from downtown in Laurel Park. A drive-to scenic overlook with panoramic mountain views at 3,100-ft, this is a great spot for those who want to enjoy summit views but have mobility issues that prevent strenuous hiking. This romantic & legendary spot also offers a small park with a stone overlook, benches, and several short hiking trails to enjoy.
The cottage is also just 15 minutes from The Gorge Zipline & Lazy Otter Outfitters where you can enjoy outdoor adventures like ziplining, kayaking, and white water rafting. Also 15 minutes away is Marked Tree Vineyard where you can sample their award-winning wines. For more outdoor adventure, head just 30 minutes SW of Hendersonville, where you’ll find DuPont State Recreation Forest—known for its dramatic waterfalls. The challenging and popular 2.2 mile High Falls Loop trail was one of the film locations for the first Hunger Games movie and is an absolute must for outdoor enthusiasts. A beautiful sight to behold during any season, the spring and summer provide the perfect weather for rock hopping along the river bank to enjoy a close-up view and picnic, while the fall and winter seasons provide natural wonders like the color-changing foliage and spectacular ice formations to marvel at.
Travel 40 minutes north to reach the bustling and eccentric city of Asheville where you can explore art galleries, craft breweries, award-winning restaurants, specialty boutiques, and novelty shops to your heart’s content. While there, be sure to check out the iconic Biltmore Estate & the Blue Ridge Parkway. After a full day of exploring nearby towns and cities, head towards home to enjoy a delicious dinner and local brew or two while screening the latest indie film at Flat Rock Bistro Cinema, or enjoy dinner with a view back home at the cottage. As evening falls, enjoy the sunset from the community gazebo and stick around for the light show presented by the woodland fireflies. Gather around the community outdoor fire pit to enjoy great conversation and stargazing to mark the end of a magical day.
Ideal for academic or creative retreats, group getaways, wedding parties, or couple’s escape, all of the Lakemont Cottages embody vintage charm & modern style and allow you to step away from the normal hustle & bustle and into a lush woodland setting where creativity & community thrives alongside the flora & fauna of the region. Vibrant flame azalea and mountain laurel surround the cottages in the spring and summer, while vivid orange and scarlet foliage takes over the fall before sparkling white snow covers the surrounding landscape in the winter.
Offering a unique experience in every season, Whispering Pines at Lakemont offers beautiful woodland views and retro charm that promise a tranquil retreat nestled among the trees!
