About Orlando

Orlando, FL is one of the world’s most popular destinations for tourists and their families. Roughly 50 million people visit the city every year, and while Orlando has a great selection of hotels and resorts, a better, more family-friendly option is to choose one of the many available houses for rent. The city is busiest during the hot and humid, school-free months of June through August as well as during February, March, and April vacations. Here’s a primer on the Orlando area:

Things to do

Orlando is home to a variety of popular attractions for adults and children alike. This includes not only the world-famous Walt Disney World theme park but also SeaWorld Orlando and Universal Studios Florida. Other theme parks include Wet ’n Wild Orlando and the Gatorland theme park.

The recently built Wizarding World of Harry Potter has been a major tourism driver the past few years, as well as the Islands of Adventure park, also owned by Universal Studios.

Orlando is also just an hour’s drive away from the Kennedy Space Center. Other great attractions include the Harry P. Leu Gardens and the Orlando Science Center. Take your children on a self-guided tour to view more than 600 plant species at the University of Central Florida Arboretum.

Climate

Orlando has a humid, subtropical climate where the lowest you’ll get, year round, is about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Mostly you’ll want to wear your shorts and bring your sunglasses, because the average temperature is around 80 degrees with little rainfall. Simply put, it is a beautiful central-Florida locale and the fantastic weather is a main reason why the theme parks are so successful.

Events

The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival takes place from March to May at Epcot. Orlando’s Magical Dining Month starts in late August or September. Visit the event and sample three-course meals prepared by chefs from dozens of local area restaurants. Fans of art shows can visit the CityArts Factory. There are college football championships in January/February, Houston Astros spring training in March, Florida Film Festival in June, and marathons, concerts, rodeos and more – all year round. There is plenty of events worth traveling for in the Orlando area that you won’t have to wait in line for.
