About Destin

Welcome to the jewel of the Florida’s Emerald Coast and some of the most beautiful sugar white sand beaches in the Panhandle! When choosing a place to stay, Destin offers a wide variety of affordable and comfortable vacation rental options that won’t break your budget. If you are looking to rent an entire apartment, we’ve put together a list of below of the top places that offer Destin condo rentals. Need more room for your family? Then why not book a spacious beach house or villa in one of the many vacation home rentals that are offered throughout Destin. Here’s a little bit of information about the area:

Things to do

Besides lounging on the beach, Destin offers a huge selection of fun things to do. From countless water sports that include snorkeling, parasailing, scuba diving, and boating, you’ll never be bored. If you want to go fishing, then you’ve come to the right place. Destin is known as the world’s “Luckiest Fishing Village”, proudly boasting the largest charter fishing fleet in the state of Florida.

Beyond the beach, you can check out a variety of shops as well as arts and entertainment attractions for all ages. With over 40% of Walton County’s total acreage dedicated to preservation, you can hike and bike your way through over 200 miles of scenic trails. You can learn more about state parks in the area at www.FloridaStateParks.org.

With over 24 miles of shoreline, the state of Florida has designated over 60% of Destin’s beaches as protected area. It is within this unspoiled area that you can discover some of the area’s most beautiful beaches, located just minutes from your condo or vacation home.  Families traveling together will want to make sure to pick a beach that has restrooms, snack bars and other sundries nearby.

The best beaches in Destin are Henderson State Beach Park, Crystal Sands Beach and Destin Harbor Borderwalk. While there may be a small admission to get in, you’ll soon forget the cost as you catch a glimpse of the breathtaking emerald green water and sugar white sand beaches. Other beaches to check out are: Beasley Park, James Lee Park and Ed Walline Park. Each offers restrooms, showers and other facilities all nearby.

Climate

Destin is gorgeous year-round, boasting top tourism in high and shoulder seasons alike. A comfortable high of 82 might make May your choice for visiting, but 89 during July/August is prime beach season. Very little rainfall hits Destin so don’t worry too much about Hurricane season. Pack your sunscreen, flip-flops, and sunglasses because you’re hitting the beach daily on your Destin trip.

Shopping

If you want to pick up some items while in Destin your two best bets would be the Destin Commons or Silver Sands Premium Outlets. Grab some new swim trunks, a boogie board, or some Hawaiian shirts for dinnertime here. There are plenty of name brand outlets and stores to help you enjoy a day out of the sun.

Food

After a long day at the beach, your family is going to be famished. There are plenty of top restaurant options in Destin. For dinner with an incredible view, check out Beach Walk at Henderson Park Inn. For a raucous night of drinking and singing, McGuire’s Irish Pub is the place. Mimmo’s Ristorante is a must-try for those who love their food doused in delicious marinara, while Louisana Lagniappe is great for families who want some southern comfort.

Planning your Trip

A good place to start when planning your trip to Destin is to check out the Visit Destin section of the Destin Chamber of Commerce. Florida’s Emerald Coast has its own Visitor and Convention’s Bureau offers a great overview of the entire area and some great tips on fun things to do while on vacation.

Renting a condo while in Destin offers lots of advantages over being in a hotel, especially if you are traveling with your family. Spacious and affordable, Destin has a huge selection of condos with up to 4 bedrooms in each unit. Not only will staying in a condo offer you plenty more space, but you’ll save lots of money by booking an entire apartment at a fraction of what a comparable hotel stay would cost. Many of these condos are on the beach, however some are located on harbor inlets so its best to ask the owner for specific information before deciding on which place to rent. If you want to stay in closer proximity to major shopping areas, then Highway 98 East may be best for you. Otherwise, choose something along Gulf Shore Drive or Durango where the views are spectacular, and you’ll immediately understand why Destin is the most popular vacation spot on the Emerald Coast.
