Reviews for this vacation home rental in Forks, Washington
Disappointing, dirty, unmaintained.
November 19, 2013
In summary, the house was run-down and dirty, major appliances were broken, and the groundskeepers were unavailable to fix anything. We emailed the owner, Byron Brassfield, about these issues, assuming that he would want to know how poorly the house had been cared for since he had been absent all summer. We did not ask for a refund. To our surprise, Byron then turned it on us and wanted to charge us for everything we complained about. After 8 weeks of patiently dealing with Byron, he finally agreed to return half of our deposit only if we agreed to not post any reviews. Summary of issues with property: Broken things: The oven handle was broken so we had to use potholders to open it. The microwave was unplugged (plugging it in revealed it to be broken). The furniture was either already broken (2 table chairs) or getting really old and rickety. The DVD player would not send sound to the TV. The door on the downstairs bathroom did not lock. The downstairs area has very few lights, so there are floor and desk lamps instead; only ONE of these lamps had a working bulb, and a main hallway light was also burnt out. Dirty things: The coffee maker had old grounds/filter in it. The kitchen had dust bunnies and old popcorn on the floor. The refrigerator in the utility room was dirty on the inside like it had been left out in the weather. The grill was so filthy on the outside that we had to clean it just to set down dishes while transferring meat. The burners were so caked with grime that 4 of 6 would not light. We had to pick up dog poop so the kids could run around outside. Other issues: The was no laundry or dish soap, but you are required to wash dishes and linens before leaving. There are 4 private bedrooms plus 1 bedroom with no window shades plus 2 twin beds in the hallway with no privacy. Internet was mostly unreliable; the modem is outside! Cell service was spotty. Byron claims he fired both his housekeeper and his maintenance person over this, yet he still blames us for these issues. 6 weeks after our visit, he made new accusations that we left vomit and bloody bandages in the house! For our part, a picture did fall off of a wall while we were there and the glass broke. We notified Byron of this before we left and offered to pay for it. Also before we left, we cleaned again, washed the bedding and towels (using our own soap), washed the dishes, and took the trash out. At this point, we have given up on getting our full deposit and are moving on.

2 days in the "Bogie House"

It is a lovely house and a beautiful setting. We enjoyed ourselves and the magic of the setting very much. A whole herd of elk keep us company which we could see from the balcony. The owner was very kind in squeezing us in between a wedding and the next group to come and accommodated us. We look forward to our next visit and we have fallen in love with Washington!

Really really beautiful, huge country house. Close to beach.
wonderful house for a multi-family gathering
January 3, 2013
This house is perfect for a large gathering of people with diverse interests. Our fishermen fished each day (and CAUGHT a steelhead); our walkers went to the beach each day, and our cooks and sitters sat happily by the fireplace in the main room , cooking, reading and talking. New Year's Eve we sat around the fireplace and told stories -- and watched the fireworks from La Push (or maybe Rialto Beach?) which was a lovely little bonus!
Home away from home.

Too little time!

Location! Location! Location! This home was perfectly remote and yet minutes from what we wanted or needed. The Beaches, offshore fishing, Forks (for supplies) and a little further away the rain forests. A one hour trip got us to Neah Bay or Port Angeles for a run to Canada. Which we did. The house itself had everything we needed including xtras condiments etc. already stocked in the kitchen. At night on the deck the local frog choir serenaded and in the morning the misty surroundings made the coffee all the more warming. We were hesitant to walk on the gorgeous wood floor but the fireplace and jacuzzi tub were instant favorites. Our only regret was not being there during river fishing season. Steelhead only 100 yards away! Neverthe less we limited on Ling Cod which made awesome fish without the chips and my wife caught a 50 pound Halibut on the wrong day of the week, it got to go free. Next time we'll schedule around the lowest tides and fishing of choice everything else will be great!
I had such a wonderful time there over Labor Day weekend 2011. The house is really large, and each room is about double the size of an average seattle bedroom. Inside there was lots of books about surfing and local recreation. Great windows facing an open field, which was perfect for keeping an eye on our dog as he pounced around in the field below. The place is set up so all you need to bring is your clothes. Theres a box of outdoor toys like kickballs, frisbees, and baseball gloves (the kind of things you never think of but wish you had when your there. Huge deck with two BBQ's (propane $ charcoal) stocked and ready to go. Flat screen t.v's and a descent selection of movies ( i actually watched two good movies i haven't seen before). The best part is location! The each morning after a 5 minute drive and a 100yd walk on a scenic trail i was surfing on some really nice water. Later in the day when the rest of the house woke up and we had ate breakfast we all explored the property together and found a little swimming hole on the river that you could dive off fallen logs. The river current is pretty mellow later that same evening before dinner i paddled my white water kayak up stream about 1/2 mile and then drifted back. Lots of wildlife around, and though are encounter with Byron was brief I found him to be a very amiable person, and an excellent host! It's really a blessing to have a place like this available for the public to enjoy some of washingtons finest treasures. I would highly recommend this vacation rental! Rating:
