Description from owner
Bates Cabins- Smoky Mountain Cabin Rentals are nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains forest on part of our 60 acre parcel, this large vacation home is perfect for multi-family or other large groups. It is situated by itself but still within walking distance of Cabins 2, 4, and 5 which makes it prefect for family reunions or other large groups that require more accommodations close by. From the large sundeck the view of Cowee Valley and the mountain on the opposite side is great.
There are three large master bedrooms, one on the main level and two more downstairs. The house features handmade rustic handrails and a bridge in the middle of the main greatroom that connects the two loft bedrooms upstairs.. The master bathroom on the main floor features a Jacuzzi tub for a relaxing soak. On the west side of the house is a huge 24 ft. x 28 ft. deck for entertaining your friends or just relaxing taking in the wildlife. Wildlife that can often been seen from the wrap around porch include Hummingbirds, deer, turkey, chipmunks, and squirrel. A bird study by the University of Georgia was recently conducted here. In that study the identified 64 songbird and woodpecker species. And at night, if you're lucky, you might see the shy, nocturnal flying squirrel. For the kids this log cabin rental offers a small yard with a swing set as well as trampoline with protective netting.
For the gem mining enthusiast this log cabin rental is situated between close to two mines still open here in Cowee Valley. Sheffield Mine, featured on the travel channel, is about 2 1/2 miles east. Cherokee Mine, where the largest star ruby ever found in North America was found a few years ago, is directly across the street from us. Also close to Cabin A is Cowee Valley Lapidary where you can have your gem stones professionally cut and set.
All of our Smoky Mountains log cabin vacation rentals are kid friendly and pet friendly. Each of our vacation homes has a pac-n-play, highchair, and stroller as well as safety gates and/or child-proof door knobs that restrict their access to stairs. The gates on the porches act to keep your pets restricted and safe as well. Free wi-fi.

“Great Family Vacation spot”
Clean home with beautiful view. Not difficult to drive to. About an hour from the casino and Western Carolina University. Hot tub was not working when we got there but they sent someone within an hour to fix the problem. Rustic home . Pool table was torn so you can not use. Plenty of towels and wash cloths. Washer and dryer in home. camp site outside great or roasting marshmallows and spending quality time with your family. Ingles was about 15 min from home but the wal mart has moved to another location. A great stay for the price. The entire family of 17 enjoyed the stay
“Family Reunion Summer Vacation”
6 Families came in from North, South & West. Adults, to Teens, Toddlers & Diaper sizes, lots of rooms & huge deck was perfect. Kitchen is great double oven, huge island with burners for cooking and counter space with stools around it plus Lg dining table. Cowee Valey very senic, every kind of outdoor activity & National Parks in every direction lots of Rustic Historic towns & Antiques are everywhere to visit. Carl Bates & Cabin Services were great!
Our group a16 has a great time at the Bates Estate. We had 7 couples/families which filled the cabin, but without any feeling of crowding. The cabin is lovely with great inside woodwork (especially the twig bannister, big open kitchen/dining/living room area on the first floor, and large playroom area on the bottom floor. The spa and wrap around porch were appreciated and well used by the group. The scenery was beautiful, especially the huge view of the Smokies from the living room picture window and outside from the back patio area. Carl and his family responded immediately to the calls we made with minor requests for directions, extra wood, tv/dvd hookup fix, and instructions on how to turn a couple things on. The upstairs loft with two bedrooms were beautiful, but pretty warm - the fans help, but still a little warm for some. I would definitely recommend the cabin!! Heed the specific directions provided by Carl - GPS does get a little lost. Plus we had great weather when we were there, but if there is much weather (rain, snow, or ice), the dirt/gravel road to cabin would be best left to trucks, jeeps, and chains! Now for some activity recommend experiences: The train ride from Bryson City was very nice - it was a nice warm day, so we thoroughly enjoyed the open "cheap seats" in the back - I'd recommend that seating since it's more open to the outside wasn't shoulder-to-shoulder like the closed on cars. The drive to the south to see the MANY waterfalls was my favorite sightseeing adventure. There are plenty of waterfula that can be seen right from the side of the road, plus others that allow a little walk together up close and personal.i can't remember the next of the town just past the dam, but it was a nice quaint stop for a little shopping and bite to eat.
My son was getting married in Franklin and we needed accommodations for our large family traveling from every corner of the USA! We picked Cabin "A" because we needed to host the rehearsal dinner for 70 people and it had a very large deck. Everything was beyond PERFECT!! With white lights hung, rented tables set & fire in fire pit it it looked simply "magical"! Everyone was very impressed! The cabin is very easy to get to and parking was not a problem. Plenty of room for everyone to move about and also be seated for dinner-on the deck! Carl Bates and his son Keith were very helpful and accommodating! 15 of us stayed in this cabin and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Whether we were just relaxing in the cabin, taking in the spectacular views from the deck or enjoying the hot tub it was all great! Plenty of beds and room to move around. Other family members stayed in other Bates cabins and thoroughly enjoyed them as well.We highly recommend this cabin whether you just want to "hang out" or host a family get together. Plenty of hiking and sightseeing to do in the area. Cash's Smokehouse catered the dinner and even our relatives from Texas said their brisket was to die for! Pies from Sunset Restaurant -delicious-(try Coconut Cream)! Thanks Bates Cabins for making our wedding week in the mountains absolutely PERFECT!
From the moment we stepped foot into the cabin we knew that we made the right choice. The cabin had a true home-like feel to it. All of the amenities were at our finger tips. Our group consisted of 14 adults. The layout worked wonderfully to fully accommodated all of us comfortably. Call it cliche, but believe me when I say, pictures truly do not do the cabin, the views, or the area justice. So many memories were shared with our group of friends. We are hoping to make another trip in the fall. Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer.
We can't say enough good things about the cabin and the area. The outside views are beautiful and it feels very private. When we walked in the cabin all we could say was Wow. There is plenty of room to spread out. The cabin is new and was absolutely spotless. The accommodations were outstanding, immaculate and comfortable. The house was very well stocked with a lot of extras. The owners had Christmas decorations all around the cabin and a gorgeous Christmas tree in the living room. We will be returning again very soon!
