Description from owner

"Downeast... So close..."

Located on the harbor in South Freeport, Maine, less than 30 minutes from the Portland airport, you'll find the quintessential "Downeast" Maine experience typically only found much further north and the Harraseeket Boathouse Cottages. Actually situated over the picturesque Harraseeket River which flows into Casco Bay, the Harraseeket Boathouse, was originally constructed in 1813 and is the oldest documented structure in South Freeport today. Its colorful history includes being used by "rum runners" during prohibition to smuggle liquor from arriving boats to a nearby resort. It's adjacent and newly appointed guest cottages, "Heron" and "Osprey" are available as luxury rentals and together they can accommodate up to 10 guests.

Unique to any other property on the coast of Maine, the Harraseeket Boathouse Cottages are now available as luxury rentals or for special events. For additional information and photos please visit "maineboathouse".

“Perfect for our family!”

The Osprey Cottage was perfect my husband, myself, our 19month old and my grandfather. Very convenient location in between Freeport and all the activities available in Portland. The open concept kitchen/living space was perfect for hanging out on rainy afternoons or simply having family time while we cooked a meal! The cottage provided all the amenities we needed and the owners were quick to respond to any concerns or questions! Absolutely loved it!

“Refinding Relaxed”

Reviewed 2 Jul 2013

The quant little seaside cottage was a perfect retreat for us. We escaped the corporate world for a week of Miane hospitality, sunshine and lobsta. The ocean front deck was our favorite place to be and our dogs loved it too. Every day brought a sense of adventure as we sought out the Maine country side in search of the best seafood we could find and never were we disappointed. At night we would return to our ocean side pearch to watch the most beautiful and relaxing sunsets we have seen in quite some time. They were magically slow and the colors would change almost by the minute with no two ever being the same until finally it was dark. The silence of the night was as mgestic as the beauty of the day and the dark, star filled sky looked so much closer than it does at home that you just knew you were in a very special place. With the sunrise came the calling of the gulls as they flew along side of the Lobster boats making their way to another days catch. As beautifully as the sun had gone down, it rose and the reflection that it sprawled across the water let you know you were going to experience another wonderful day in Maine...and we did. From sightseeing and picture taking to Whal watching and lobster rolls we truely were able to enjoy our week in Maine and always would return to our beautiful little cabin by the sea that we were happy to call home if only for one week inJune.

“Terrific Getaway!”

Our family had a pre-Christmas gathering at the "Boathouse" coming in from all parts of the US. We totally enjoyed the venue with spectacular views, superb accomodations and closeness to local shopping/dining. I highly recommend the "Boathouse" to any group or family for the perfect place to stay.
