West Isle Cottage

April 2, 2013

Our stay was wonderful . The cottage was comfortable and really near the Beach and Bay and even had the availability of a fishing pier in the Bay. The kitchen was outfitted so that we did some cooking ..The bedroom was really nice with the ocean breezes. The place has ceiling fans in the living rooms and the bedroom which really help to cool.. The owners were so thoughtful --ice chests, deck and beach chairs. Our grand son and his wife stayed in the downstairs and said that it was comfortable , too. I would heartily recommend this cottage, Again the owners are great and gracious.

Awesome Location & Perfect Size!

March 19, 2013

My husband and I wanted to take our 2 1/2 year old son to the beach for the first time and we had a blast! The house is the perfect size. It is well kept and is very clean (The bed is very comfy!), with all the necessary amenities. The price is also a bonus as it fit in our budget for just a weekend getaway. The neighborhood is quiet and the beach is just a two minute drive away. The outside shower is nice for rinsing off. The marina store is right around the corner and the attractions, such as Moody Gardens and Pleasure Pier are just a short 20 minute drive back in to town. The owners are gracious hosts and respond very quickly with any questions and/or concerns. We would definitely like to come stay here again.

Property Not in Good Shape

March 17, 2013

The problems with this rental started before we even arrived. Late at night on the day before we were to arrive, I got an email from the owner saying that the kitchen sink was broken such that the sprayer worked, but not the faucet. I figured it would be manageable, so we proceeded with our spring break plans. When we arrived, we were confronted with several other problems. First, the unit was not as clean as one would hope. The kitchen counter and pantry door were grimy, so we scrubbed them down with bleach water. Further, the second bedroom is completely separate - as in inaccessible - from the rest of the unit. You actually have to use an outside staircase to get to it. This is not at all clear from the description and pictures I saw online. The owner acted like I should have known this because that is how houses are built in Galveston, but I'd never been to Galveston before, so how would I know that! Anyway, this set-up rendered the second bedroom unusable for us b/c I have two small children who don't like to be separated from each other, so one adult had to sleep on the pull out sofa (thin mattress!) in the living room with one child while the other adult slept in the bedroom with the other child. Additionally, the bathtub jets did not work which really disappointed the kids at bathtime. Yet another problem was with the clothes dryer. We had to do several loads of laundry during our five day stay - it took three full cycles on the highest heat setting to get the clothes dry. Ultimately, the issue with the kitchen sink also ended up being more of an inconvenience than I had anticipated. Yes, the sprayer worked but it wasn't particularly easy cooking dinner, rinsing dishes, and filling ice cube trays with a sprayer. We actually ended up using the sink in the bathroom for filling the trays b/c when we tried to use the sprayer we would get sprayed back in the face due to the force of the water. I discussed these issues with the owner, but he was not helpful in addressing the problems. I would definitely not stay here again nor would I recommend it to anyone else.
