Reviews for this vacation chalet rental in Gaylord, Michigan
Weekend Getaway for Family
Weekend Getaway for Family
October 4, 2016
I rented this home rather then getting hotel rooms for our family to attend a wedding in Gaylord. What a great option. The home was very clean with all the supplies you could ask for. All we brought was our clothes and groceries. There is a great view of the lake from the deck. Also, we used the kayaks for exploring the lake. The pictures say it all. Yes, it is as good as it seems. No surprises.
I'm glad these guests enjoyed The Bear's Den. This home is very popular and frequently booked with mostly repeat guests all the time. Renting a home is where it's at anymore, forget the hotels, renting a fully loaded home with amenities that hotels don't even have such as kayaks, being pet friendly, lake to enjoy, cook your own meals, list goes on and on.....plus you can have your whole family in one setting and not in rooms across the hall way cramped in a little hotel room....
t's hard to say what we enjoyed most. I don't think we've ever taken a vacation where we didn't get bored and go into town. We did not leave this property once (except for getting groceries). We loved enjoying a cup of coffee each morning on the deck and just admiring the breathtaking view. We loved going out on the lake with the boats provided. We loved grilling out almost every day. We loved relaxing in the hot tub. We enjoyed the outdoor fireplace, playing pool and playing cards. The list goes on and on.
Our group consisted of a family of five and two dogs. My parents also came for a couple of days.
Our youngest is autistic and he becomes very stressed whenever he leaves our house. One of the great things about this place was there was so much room that he could find a quiet place to be alone when he became stressed.
My middle son thoroughly enjoys bird watching. He was able to get out and walk around the lake many times and find birds that he had not seen before.
Our oldest has severe asthma. We tried renting cottages twice before and each time my oldest ended up in the ER due to mold and uncleanliness of properties. Therefore I must mention the cleanliness; the den is immaculate. We had no medical emergencies.
The owners were wonderful too. They were very quick to return answers to questions that came up. They do a great job of making it easy on renters and ensuring that they have everything they need.
This vacation, this rental provided me with priceless, precious moments that will stay with me forever. I have so many memories to look back on. One of my favorites was watching my autistic son take his elderly Grandpa for a rowboat ride.
It truly is an amazing place. You may be stressed when you go there, but you will leave with a relaxation that will last long after you get home. That is what it did for us.
We would come back each summer if we could afford it. We would recommend this place to everyone. It is well worth the price. If you are athletic or not, it's perfect. If you need a place with lots of room, it's perfect. If you enjoy nature or if you enjoy staying inside, it's perfect.
I hope that one day we will be able to go back there.
Thank you so much for providing such a perfect place for everyone.
We all had a great time! Cabin is located only 10-15 mins from gaylord and is nestled on hill overlooking a little lake with the big lake in view also. Tons of games for the kids and a hot tub and fireplace to boot. The owner was very pleasant and eager to help out in any way she could.....we will definitely go back again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Bear's Den. We will definitely return in the future, and strongly recommend this rental to anyone.
Had an excellent winter weekend getaway with 3 couples. House is just as shown in pictures, plenty of room, and very nice decor throughout. Would definitely stay again!
Had a great long weekend and Thanksgiving dinner at this property. Everything was exactly as advertised, from the pictures to the description. The owner was prompt with emails and answers to questions, the property was in fantastic shape and very well equipped. A great place to relax. The weather didn't cooperate much for outdoor activities but we plan to try to find time in our schedule to come back and take full advantage of everything this place has to offer. Steps in and out could be an issue--but were fine for us. The property doesn't have internet access and phone service is sketchy but for us that was a good thing! Our dogs also enjoyed the property. The owners were very cooperative in letting us enjoy the weekend and bring our dogs.
Five friends and I spent the weekend in this beautiful chalet. The d?cor is adorable, the house in pristine condition. It was the perfect spot to accommodate six people comfortably. We enjoyed kayaking on the lake and walking/running along the dirt roads. We put the hot tub to good use! Everyone had a great time--the location was incredibly tranquil and provided a venue for fun and relaxation for an affordable price.
Great time at Bears Den! The house was clean, views were gorgeous and lot to offer from the boats, pool table, hot tub and games you really didn't have to leave. FYI if you have trouble with stairs there are a lot (thankful my husband and I had no issues with them, glad to have the workout). We are always pleased that we can bring our dog with us on vacation so thank you for being pet friendly! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home!
This cottage is absolutely perfect. We have stayed in a lot of rentals and this one ranks over the top. Nicely decorated, well equipted (with everything to keep you busy) clean, wonderful kitchen (even a gas stove) with all the kitchen items you need for all your cooking. We slept better than at home. The lake altho small is FULL of fish, we ate a ton of bluegills, our Friday nite fish fry. My husband had his 1st kiyak trip mainy because I snagged the floating dock with my hook and he got to retrieve it for me. We took the row boat out 3 x's fishing. If you don't catch a fish its because you forgot your pole. It must be said if you are older like us toting your stuff down the first flight of steps (20) from the parking lot is a hoot, but once you are done unloading and have sat down on the deck with that 1st toddy it is all worth it. It was the best 29th anniversary. Even our spoiled rotten pooch had a ball swiming and standing on the dock watching the fish.
Awesome family getaway for all the family while its inside relaxing playing pool, to outside fun fishing, hiking, or kayaking, to late night hot tubing! This place has it all!
Just perfect - house is clean and modern, beautiful views, our 2 grandchildren truly enjoyed the sandy beach and the paddle boat. We just loved this place - can't wait to return.
... that is just the perfect amount of secluded! The house is very clean and all appliances are modern and in great condition. The view is amazing and Little Bear Lake is crystal clear and full of all sorts of entertaining wildlife. All possible amenities are readily available; everything from condiments to kayaks! Other bonuses are the sandy beach area, the floating swim platform, satellite TVs and a very nice pool table. The hot tub is also very relaxing and the stars are so vivid at night! There are just so many reasons why we will return to the Bear's Den at the next chance we get. Thank you for a wonderful getaway!
Our stay at Bear's Den truly exceeded our expectations! The home was very clean, and I am very picky about that! The beds were also very comfortable. This rental had so many convenience items a lot of rentals don't have...logs already in the fireplace, extra trash bags, paper towels, bath towels and wash clothes, washer and dryer with laundry detergent, dishwasher with dish soap, Dish Network, DVD player with DVD's, pool table, hot tub etc...The owners are great and were very prompt to answer any questions that we had. The only thing renters need to be aware of is there are about 20 steps from the parking area down to the house. We definitely hope to stay here again!
A group of my friends and I stayed here for a weekend before all heading back to our different living areas. It was a great time! Everything was very clean and in great condition. The decorations and furniture made it feel so homey and welcome. The hot tub and pool table were great for entertaining. There were plenty of towels (and blankets) to be used; And after eight showers, the water was still warm! All appliances (including the fireplace) worked great and we had no problems whatsoever settling in. We also spent a day snow-showing across the lake and it was a perfect, peaceful setting. Would definitely recommend to others and/or come back next year if possible!
My friends and I had a wonderful time at Bear's Den! The location was perfect; there was no road noise and the fall colors were stunning. The lake was calm and serene, and since it is surrounded by trees we even stayed warm out in the boats. The cottage itself was exactly what we were looking for. We loved the wood-burning stove and made ample use of all of the couches, which are comfortable beyond measure and perfect for curling up on in the middle of the day. And the hot tub!! Perfect way to spend a chilly evening outside. The Sleeping Bear Dunes were well within our driving range as well, and we got to explore the surrounding area quite a bit. On top of the wonderful accommodations, the speed and friendliness with which the owners responded to our questions made for the best rental experience I have had by far. Not only would I return to Bear's Den, I would also rent any of their other properties because of this exceptional service. My friends and I were looking for a place to take a breath in the middle of a hectic college semester, and we found it at Bear's Den. We would have loved to stay longer and are definitely looking at when we can come back!
Bear's Den is clean, cozy and has everything you need. Firewood was all stacked and ready for us. Hottub clean and hot. Dorene great to work with. Lots of fun restaurants close by in Gaylord. We loved this cabin and we will be ba
Myself and my boyfriend stayed at bears den for a long weekend in mid december 2013. What can i say, it was perfect. the location was wonderful, there was a lot of snow so we enjoyed walking around the lake and surrounding areas. Everything is provided at bears den, the hot tub was wonderful in the snow and the log stove. We used bears den as a base to go skiing and visit some brewerys in surrounding areas. great base to enjoy Michigan. I would 100% reccomend this place and the ownders we wonderful and accomadating. I will be returning in the summer to enjoy the lake and the sunshine. Thanks again.
This was our first trip to Bears Den, there were 2 adults and 5 teenagers! We practically had to drag the kids away from cabin to go into town!! Before our trip was over we were already planning our next trip for October! Movies to watch, lake, hot tub beautiful decor and very very clean! You wont regret your time here. Thanks for such a nice place to relax on a long weekend.
Then Bear Den is the best cabin my wife and I have stayed in yet. The place was so well decorated and the views were outstanding! The landlord is such and easy and enjoyable person to work with. She truly wants everyone to have an excellent time at any and all oft her cabins. The cabin is set in a great location to all the snowmobile trail and far enough out to have the peace and quiet we all love the northern michigan area for. Can't wait to stay at the den again real soon!
As a group we have been taking trips for years now. We enjoy the opportunity to all share a home and this is unlike any we have found so car. The home offers a lot of entertainment, even in the dead of winter. The pool table and basement area was ideal for our entertainment as we played cards and pool when we weren't out skiing. You can tell that outside of the great maintenance of the home that the owners truly care about creating a memorable weekend for their guests.
Thank you so much for the wonderful place to stay. Your place is super clean and has everything. This was my first time renting a cabin/house and I was a bit unsure, but from the first email from Dorene I am happy to say it was perfect. There isn't a thing I would change. Thank you again for all your help and a perfect place to spend a weekend with my husband and our best friends. We will be back and we are even thinking we might like to try your other locations.
Loved the tall trees and privacy. The view to the lake is beautiful and peaceful. All 3 generations enjoyed the hot tub and kayaks.Always something to do even if it was just sitting by the lake and watching kids play.Everything was better than expected, very clean and well taken care of.Dorene always got back quickly when e-mailing and answering questions. We went to Mackinac Island Sleeping Bar Dunes,Traverse City, Big Buck Brewery and mostly just enjoyed the house and lake. Played cards at nite and made a campfire. Never a dull moment, loved seeing my 5 grandchildren being sooo happy. They literally fell asleep standing up so tired! They slept in too!!! Adults got their quiet time coffee on the deck watching hummingbirds and woodpeckers and the steam coming off the lake, I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to get away from it all with family and friends.Wish we were back there already!
We rented the house for over a week in winter break and loved the location and proximity to the lake. The house is extremely clean and well kept up, has a sensible layout, and is spacious and well-lit with large windows overlooking woods and a small lake, and is nicely furnished. The up-north decor was enjoyable. Everything was provided (for kitchen, bathroom and bed-linen) and in excellent working order, and it truly felt like a home away from home. There is plenty of entertainment with games, books, TVs and a pool table provided, and the owners encourage you to use every amenity provided. The house is perfectly winterized and comfortable. There was a sled for the kids and a shovel for dealing with snow. I got the impression the owners had put much thought it making the renters experience complete and trouble-free. The children had a great time and we all look forward to renting it again.
oh my gosh this was exactly what we were looking for. Dorene thought of everything in this cabin. it was beautiful. My daughter came home from afghanistan and it was nice she could enjoy some peaceful time with family. we enjoyed everything about the house. we walked down by the park and it was beautiful. went fourwheeling, and mom did some fishing. she loved it. caught a few blue gills. but she wants to go back next year to try for a big mouth bass. so we are going back. see you next year.
We had a wonderful time at Bear's Den. The little lake that the house is on was perfect for my young kids to splash around at the little beach area and try paddle boating and kayaking without the hazzard of boat traffic. It was such a quiet and peaceful lake. The playground and pool within walking distance was nice too. My kids actually met some other kids vacationing at another chalet and have become pen pals! When we wanted to to something a little more "exciting" this house was located only about 1 - 11/2 hours from places like Petosky and Mackinaw City. But, it was always nice to return to the quiet neighborhood here. I personally enjoyed the hot tub almost everynight! Also, Dorene was great and responded to our needs very quickly, but was never intrusive. Just a joy to work with. Well done!
I was looking for a place to stay for myself and 5 other golfers and am sure glad I decided on Dorene's Bear's Den. The place was clean from top to bottom and was furnished with anything you may need. From the kayaks, horseshoes, and pool table, we had a lot to do after our rounds of golf. Dorene and her husband had the great pizza they offer waiting in our fridge when we arrived so we didn't have to leave to find something to eat, it was perfect! Dorene made renting the 'Den' easy and answered all the questions I had for her, even knew someone for a deal on golf! I wanted to book the place for my family's vacation but it's already taken, I'm not surprised. I'm already getting our schedules together for next years golf trip and hope to be staying at the 'Den' again! Thanks Dorene!!!!
We searched & searched for a Labor Day get-away! The Bear's den was amazing! Dorene was there still cleaning when we pulled up! She was very friendly & helpful with all the details of the house. The kids loved it, there was so much to do. We were so impressed w/our stay, before we even got on the highway to go home, I was calling Doreen reserving a week in July. Now we are counting down these yucky winter months (allegedly Spring)until we return to the Bear's Den!
On a raving review from friends we thought it could be fun to get our family together and spend time with our grandchildren. Dorene and John's properties came highly recommended. WOW what a great week it was. The Bears Den was decorated like a cabin in the woods with plenty of room for the 9 of us. The Lake view was fabulous. Two Kayaks and a Pedal Boat included...Oh, and the Hot Tub was pretty popular with our group. A deck of playing cards and a few board games for the evening was all we needed to bring. Oh, and high powered squirt guns for "kids"...young and old to play in the Lake with. Each day after dinner we had our S'Mores at the firepit on the beach (made with peanut butter cups or dark chocolate candy bar.)Wood is provided !! The adults had as much fun as the kids and being able to bring our toy poodle was just another bonus. All the comforts of home included. BBQing on the deck or going into nearby Gaylord (a nice short and easy drive). We referred to Meijers as our corner store!Being a NO WAKE Lake we felt very safe with the kids wearing life jackets and out in the Boats. With a dishwasher and washer and dryer we sure weren't roughing it. We bought a few bottles of local wine to take home. One evening a nice steak dinner...but mostly Dogs and Burgers with corn on the cob. We all left with wonderful memories and a zillion pictures to enjoy for years to come!! A big THANK YOU to our friends for suggesting this place and to Dorene and John. Also don't miss shopping at the Spud Warehouse and Gift Shop at the Wilderness Museum Exhibit(also great!)in town. Bumper cars and Putt Putt is just some more activities near by.What fun to have had such a wonderful Family outing! Treat your family: you won't regret it !!I could just go on and on.

Dorene has thought of everything for the renters in this place!! We enjoyed our stay so much and couldn't have asked for anything more. What a great way to get away and relax and still be able to do it all. Typically you can sacrifice privacy when you stay on a lake but not at The Bear's Den!! You get the privacy of a wooded area w/ all the amenities of being on a lake and in assoc w/ a pool. We had the best vacation ever and hope that we can do it again and continue to make more great memories!! Dorene is the greatest!! If you are looking for a place that has it all then this is your place!!
