Reviews for this vacation cabin rental in Gaylord, Michigan
These five star reviews are all from our "home away" listing:
Peaceful and Quiet
The cabin was just as it was advertised. We enjoyed the time we were in the cabin. We used the fireplace to keep it nice and warm. We were also able to visit many areas to enjoy the fall colors. The owner was there if we had any questions, but otherwise did not intrude. He also made sure we had enough firewood without having to go far for it or to ask. There is a lot of room to roam on the property. We had our dogs there and they loved it too. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.
Off the Grid Cabin in Nature land
Extremely happy I found this! This cabin is awesome. It is very spacious feels like your at home. Stayed there for 4 days and had a wonderful time. Comfy beds and everything was clean. Great trails to walk around and of course the lake! The private lake was my favorite, it was gorgeous. The view from the back of the cabin was also beautiful. Great little area by the lake if you wanted to have a campfire and hang out. It was very quiet and felt like you were off the grid. We had no service for our cell phones which was actually really nice. You can go to town to get service which was not too far about 10 mins away. This cabin is great if you want to relax and see some nature and walk the trails. It was fun finding wild blackberry bushes, they were yummy! We brought our dog and she loved it! I also loved the "night light" surprise on the ceiling of the master bedroom :) it felt like you were camping outside and looking at the stars! You can use the fireplace to heat the cabin which was amazing! It felt so cozy! We will definitely return! Rokko was also very nice and welcoming, and he loves dogs :)
Wild winds cabin
Absolutely lovely and rustic. If you love history brought to life, you would love this cabin. Very comfortable, nestled in the woods, nature abounds. Would tell all my friends and family to try it out. The owner Rokko, is very inviting and warm. Property is well cared for, it's a cabin in the woods, cleanliness was appropriate for the environment. We enjoyed walking our dogs in the woods on the maintained trails. There is propane heat, however we used very little, as the fireplace kept the cabin very cozy and warm. The wood was provided by the owner and we came with clean clothes and left with clean clothes as there is a full size washer and dryer in the cabin. If you love getting away from it all, you should schedule a week at the Wild Winds.
Very peaceful, tucked away, and beautiful!
We arrived at the property from Chicago very late on a rainy Friday and were immediately greeted by Rokko, who took the time to show us our cabin and then offered to take us on a tour of the property the following morning. Rokko was very accommodating and the cabin was great - nice, big bed and a fireplace - perfect for chilly nights. The next day the clouds broke and we were able to take a walk down some of the trails (cool mushrooms everywhere!) and even take a canoe trip along the beautiful "chain" of small lakes. We will definitely be coming back next spring/summer - but we will be sure to stay for a week instead of 2 days! Highly recommended for a quite, affordable getaway!
Quiet Lake Retreat For The Whole Family
This cabin is exactly what it is advertised to be, a rustic, family oriented cabin in the woods. We stayed the week with our two large dogs and 20 year old son and had a blast. This cabin is great for a quiet getaway with long walks in the woods and midnight boating to see the stars. We cooked all meals on premise using the gas grill and stove. Breakfast on the back deck was lovely.
We appreciated the tour provided by the host and his piano playing in the evening was exceptional. All laundry facilities are provided and were in good working order. The "master" bedroom has a really cool surprise when you turn off the lights. The row boat, canoes and paddle boats provided were in good working order. The grounds were what I expected for a cabin in the woods. The really great thing is that there was no posion ivy anywhere on the large property. Additionally, there are multiple packed sand service roads that wind around for miles.
Gaylord is close enough to be convenient but far enough away that you won't know it's there. Main street has many antique and curio shops. We really enjoyed "Do South" in particular. Apparently we missed a few music festivals in the area as well as the "Cherry Festival" in Traverse City. The next time we visit we'll check the local events calendar and plan to attend some of the local events. Wonderful
Spent two days in this awesome rustic cabin. It was right off snowmobile trails and we spent all day riding. Owner was great host and he was great getting kids excited about stay. Rokko was great he help in any time we needed him. I would recommend this trip for anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful getaway with lots of nature.
Wonderful Winter Weekend at WildWinds
'Junior Cottage' at Wild Winds was the perfect place for our 'snowbound' weekend getaway! It's not fancy but it's a great combination of up-north charm and comfort - a great place to put your feet up by the fireplace, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The cabin itself is spacious and well laid out, has comfortable seating and beds, and a well-equipped kitchen. We were fortunate enough to have come right after a heavy snow (a rarity this winter) and even though the temperatures dipped below 0, we were cozy and snug.
Wild Winds itself is a charming old school up-north compound, set on the shores of the lake and surrounded by its own 60 acres, plus other public land. We snowshoed and cross-country skied right from the door and really enjoyed the trails on the property. It is also only a short drive to Gaylord, however we were so happy at the cabin that we cancelled our plans to have dinner out on Saturday and stayed 'home', snuggled by the fire!
Our host, Rokko, was friendly and helpful - and readily available even on Friday night when we had a question. We are already planning a return trip and hope to see Wild Winds in all seasons - it's a great spot!
Winter weekend get-away
Rokko, thank you for the lovely weekend at your Jr cabin, we had a wonderful time, too bad it wasn't longer. It was a perfect rustic cabin experience with lots of snow and beautiful scenery. It was so quiet, we couldn't hear anything but the snowflakes falling and the wind in the pines...peace and quiet. We walked down to "the ponds" through the deep snow and it was easy to find and not too far away (lovely). I enjoyed the wild life at the bird feeder from the kitchen window. My husband really enjoyed keeping the fire going in the fireplace...made it cozy. We did go into town which was close, but far enough away. Oh...and the water tastes good.
Beautiful location, winter wonderland!
Myself and my fellow Geology students, about 8 of us total, came up here for a couple nights over our winter break and absolutely loved it
The property is incredible, I can't wait to come back in the spring and summer to check out the river systems around this area!
Rokko supplied firewood that kept us warm all weekend, and was very accommodating to any other needs we had!
Overall, an awesome experience and we will definitely be back!
The cabin was amazing, The landscape was incredible.
Very serene and filled with nature. The cabin wasn't as secluded as I thought but the experience and the view was phenomenal
Super quiet and relaxing
Some friends and my boyfriend and I stayed at this cabin this past weekend and really enjoyed our stay. Rokko greeted us as soon as we got there and showed us our cabin. He even went out of his way to get us hunting information for the area even though he's not a hunter and we were. We took our quad and rode it around the trails also. It is beautiful in the winter and the cabin itself is super cozy but still spacious. We will definitely be returning in the summer to enjoy the lakes since they were froze over
Wild Winds in May
We enjoyed out stay at Wild Winds. The place was clean when we arrived and the owner is very accommodating. Our grandson had a blast fishing in the lake. Overall a very quiet comfortable vacation spot with lot's of opportunities to relax. Really enjoyed spending most of my time on the "sleeping porch" overlooking the lake.

The place is beautiful! It was very comfy and Rokko was very helpful. Can't wait to go back this summer!
Perfect for Us!
My Wife and I just spent an absolutely wonderful couple days at "Wild Winds". The "Junior Cabin" is what I would call... Rustic comfort. Extremely spacious, well-equipped and lots of "Up-North Charm". Very clean. The bed in the "master bedroom" is very comfy! For those who may need it... The wireless was fast and reliable. The location is absolutely amazing with wonderful views of the lake. Extremely quiet and serene. This is a place for nature lovers who want peace and quiet. We spent one early evening enjoying the sunset in the middle of the lake in the provided paddle-boat (also includes row-boat and canoe). Our next evening was spent on the beach area enjoying a campfire. Our visit also included an impromptu run to Meijer... which was a short 15-minute drive. It's important to note that "Wild Winds" includes a "suite" of four cabins (three rentals and one owner-occupied). That being said, it is still extremely private and very quiet. Speaking of the owner... Rokko was a very pleasant host and was very thoughtful and thorough in orientating us to the cabin and the surrounding area. He even led us on a short hike of the local grounds. Oh... and our pooch enjoyed our stay as much as we did. Don't hesitate to book your next get-away at Wild Winds... You won't be disappointed!
Great Week on the Lake
My husband and I had a great, weeklong stay in the junior cabin. It is remote and rustic, but clean and accommodating. The grounds are really nice and we appreciated the seclusion it provided. We went down to the beach to watch the beautiful sunsets every night and went swimming in the private ponds every day. It only takes about 10 minutes to drive into town which has everything you would need.
Rokko was a very helpful host. I would certainly stay here again and recommend it to my friends.
A Great Get Away
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Wild Winds. The cottage is located on a wooded hill overlooking Wequas Lake. The setting was peaceful and relaxing. We woke to the sound of the breeze in the trees, walked on trails through the woods, fished, and enjoyed the large deck. The kids spent hours playing at the beach and building sand castles. Wild Winds is a great place to get away from it all. Yet, we also took advantage of activities in Gaylord and made the hour drive to Mackinaw for a day trip. Rokko, the owner, is kind and friendly.
Junior Cottage was clean, comfy, and offered rustic charm and character. The living area has plenty of seating. All three bedrooms are a good size with comfortable beds. The kitchen had everything we needed to keep up with our family for the week. A nice gas grill was provided as well. The cottage is in the shade virtually all day which was great on hot July days.
All of our family members agree that we would love to visit Wild Winds again in the future. Thanks Rokko!

We had a great weekend. The weather was great. The cabin was very clean and worked great for a relaxing weekend. The Lake is perfect for boating and swimming. This is a great spot for nature lovers and family get aways. The owner was very friendly and nice to deal with. I will consider coming back in the near future. Thanks Rokko
