About Tybee Island

Tybee Island is often under sold as Savanah's Beach. While it has the same artsy funkiness as its nearby neighbor, this little gem sparkles in its own right. From its sugar sand beaches to its shabby beach chic bungalow style, an enjoyable stay in a Tybee Island beachfront vacation rental is as effortless as it is cool. However, if you like a little city with your beach vacation, Savannah is a quick drive away and runs a shuttle service to and from the city on weekends with several daily departures.

Things to Do

While most of the activities on Tybee draw you outdoors, you can be as active or inactive as you desire. From kayaking to hiking, paddle boarding to strolling by the many art galleries, exploring the historical Fort Pulaski and Tybee Light Station, activities abound. Tybee Island offers a number of tours and charters as well. Eager captains will take you out to see dolphins, catch the big one, or guide you through an eco tour of the marshes. If you want to get away from it all, visit Little Tybee Island, an uninhabited nature preserve.

You won't find a more enchanting attraction than the Georgia coast itself. You can explore the five miles of clean sand and gentle waves. You can float in the peaceful waters or even ride a bike along the shore at low tide when the sands are firm and flat. The super-fine sand is from the Appalachian Mountains upstream and makes for excellent sand castles and a sold, comfortable surface for walking.

There are many ideal locations for spotting dolphins, bird-watching, and even seeing international ships at one of the nation's busiest ports. Spend leisurely days fishing in the mornings and exploring original artwork at a local gallery in the afternoon. If you are looking to take a day trip off the island, the options are limitless.

Tybee Island's temperatures stay moderate throughout the year, with July being its hottest month. Average highs are around 88 F. Its rainiest month is August. The location on the coast means weather can change rapidly. Fall is a much-loved time to visit as the summer crowds have gone home, the humidity has decreased slightly, and temps are still in the low 80s.

The facades of many of the stores on Tybee are as cute as the things they sell. You'll find precious beach boutiques and specialty shops at the Markets at the Lighthouse. These brightly painted stores sell unique gifts that make perfect mementoes of your time here on the island. ...
