Things to Do

Get outside and explore the mountainous landscape and rugged trails that surround Ellijay. The city is right on the cusp of the Chattahoochee National Forest where visitors can choose from a plethora of hiking trails ranging in difficulty. Reach Springer Mountain via an 8.5 mile trail and take a photo with the bronze plaque marking the Appalachian Trail. Don’t forget to sign the register at the peak. If you prefer something less strenuous, explore the rolling hills on a guided horseback ride with Adventure Trail Rides, or let the Cartecay River Experience send you down the river on an inner tube. Pick your own apples at B.J. Reece Orchards and try their famous fried apple pie before quenching your thirst at the Engelheim Vineyard. Visit on a harvest day to see the grapes being sorted and crushed or simply go for a wine tasting and live music on the weekends.
