Description of the Glacier National Park vacation chalet rental
Near the Glacier National Park entrances at West Glacier and Camas Creek, but far from the crowds, trains & traffic, Smoky Bear Ranch has all of the conveniences of a deluxe four-season facility in a remote forested setting.
A large vacation rental on it's own acrage with river access and tremendous views make this an outstanding Glacier Park retreat.
Area Information
Smoky Bear Ranch at Glacier National Park is a small facility with a lodge and cabins in a remote setting in the North Fork Valley. The ranch has river access on the North Fork of the Flathead River which is the western boundary of Glacier National Park. About 10 minutes from the West Glacier entrance to the park but far from the crowds, traffic and trains of West Glacier. This is a ranch so we're not in any city but the closest town is West Glacier. Columbia Falls is about 15 minutes and Whitefish is about 40 minutes away.
Our guests have considered us one of the best base camps for Glacier Park and you'll find a wealth of information about the park and surrounding areas on our site. We have been hiking, fishing, and exploring the area for over twenty years and can show you the best trails and fishing holes or set you up with guides. In addition we have hiking trails and river fishing right here on the property. See what other guests have had to say about our ranch over the last 20+ years. You can't find a nicer, more comfortable facility in such a remote setting in or around the park.

Three Generation Family Vacation of a Lifetime

August 22, 2016

My family of 10 stayed in the Grizzly cabin for 5 nights. Ages 5 to 69 we all made memories to last a lifetime. While the main reason for our trek to Montana was to see Glacier National Park I never realized how moving the setting at Smoky Bear Ranch would be. I chose this establishment mainly because of it's location to the park. 15 to 20 minutes and you are at the gate. Perfect. I met Nancy, the owner, at check-in and she gave a thorough walk through of the cabin and all it's amenities. After that, she spent a good amount of time giving us pointers on things to do in the park and in Columbia Falls like grocery shopping and such. Her info was worth a fortune. We had horseshoe games every night while getting the bon fire going for the evening with wood purchased right from Scott at Smoky Bear Ranch. Even the wood was great. They give you kindling wood and some newspaper with every $5 bundle. Again, perfect. The simple things they provided us to use were really nice and saved us money like bear spray, walking sticks, maps, a number of books on the area and the park, etc. I could go on all night bragging about how nice and comfortable the place is. Make sure and sign up for the newsletter. They give a substantial discount and then you receive emails every once and a while which were all educational about the wildlife, the plants, places to see while you are there an such. Very cool. To wrap it up, I could not have gotten three hotel rooms for my family for five nights for the price I paid here. And hotel rooms would have never given us such a special time together under one roof. Grandma was happy. My wife was happy. Everyone was happy and continues to talk about how special it was. Lastly, I promise...take the walk down to the river from behind the main building. It is some kind of ancient rain forest or something. Scott, the owner, can explain it. It was awesome!

Glacier family vacation

Our family of 11 stayed at Grizzly Cabin for a week. The location was actually very nice. The cabin was clean and well stocked for dishes and cooking utensils. A short trip to the West entrance to Glacier National Park if you are willing to drive on a little gravel. Blankenship road got is there is about 15-20 minutes. Also only 20-30 minutes from Whitefish and 10-15 from Columbia Falls. Location is very quiet and wooded. The temps got up in the 90's while we were there, but the cabin stayed quite cool and great for sleeping as it cooled off at night. Our hosts were very nice. They provided us with hiking maps and a guide book and also had bear spray on site that we could use if needed. The only unpleasant surprise was that the water was quite sulphuric and we decided to bring drinking water in. The good news is that we purchased a few gallons and would then take them with us into glacier and we could refill them for free at any of the campsites. We always filled our hydration packs at these sites prior to hiking anyway so it was not inconvenient. The cabin water was fine for bathing. We would recommend this for any familiy looking for a quiet, peaceful place to stay near Glacier.

Owner's reply:

The cabins well is 200 feet (61 meters) deep and the water is potable. Although we treat it some hard water minerals such as calcium and magnesium remain. Some people are not familiar with the benefits of hard water.
