About the area

The "Adirondacks" The Adirondack Park covers some 6.1 million acres, a land area roughly the size of Vermont and greater than the National Parks of Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Glacier and Great Smoky Mountains combined. The Adirondack Park is a publicly protected area encompassing much of the northeastern portion of Upstate New York. It is the largest state protected area in the contiguous United States, and the largest National Historic Landmark. Located near the Otter Creek Horse trail system ,includes 65 miles of horse trails located on Independence River and Otter Creek State Forest. Located within the Adirondack park. These trails on the state forest are also great hiking trails and cross country ski trails. Trails wind through wooded areas along Adirondack ponds, gently flowing waters like Otter, Little Otter, Beaver Meadow, Chase and Crooked Creeks, and the Independence River and Gleasmans Falls. The Otter Creek State Forest horse stables are 3.5 mies away, and close to many private horse back riding stables. Things to do At Otter Creek Falls Cabin and other information. Summer Many hiking trails near the cabin to access 76,000 acres of Independence River Wild Forest ,or drive to many other trail heads close by. The most popular trail to hike nearby is Gleasmans Falls. The Trail head is about 7 miles away off Beachmill Road, then from parking area it is a 3 mile hike in to the Gleasmens falls. We also supply trail maps and information about the nearby trails at the Cabin. Hike where not many hike too, be a wilderness adventurer, be bold. The Cabin is 2.5 miles to parking trail head at Otter Creek State Forest with miles of hiking along Otter Creek. This is a 1206 acre tract with awesome trails that wind along scenic Otter Creek , with diversity of landscapes. Steep ridges, gentle rapids, great Brown Trout population. 3.0 miles to parking trail head for Independence River Wild Forest. This is a 76,000 acres of forever wild forest. Be bold and adventerios and hike where not many people go to Big Otter Lake which is headwaters of Otter Creek and enjoy a wilderness adventure. Big Otter Lake is also part of the Han -De -Ron -Dah wilderness. And i heard it is great fishing! The Village of Lowville (Population about 6,000) is 8 miles away. It has some unique gifts and specialty shops and art shops. It also has 2 major Grocery stores a Wal Mart and a Tops. Just outside of Lowville is Millers Meat Market (actually you will pass by on your way to Lowville), has great custom cut meats and a great "Jerky Burger" great to cook on grill. Also visit Noltzs Country Store just north of Lowville on route 812. For dining there are many Resturaunts in the area. I would recommend "Jebs" which is similair to an Apple Bees and is located on Shady Ave in the center of Lowville. Also the "Ridgeview" which is located just outside of Lowville on Route 12 . The Ridgeview is fairly new and has a modern rustic touch with timber frame construction, and cedar log chairs and tables. Also about 6 miles outside of Lowville on Route 12 is the " Tughill Vineyard. You can visit their wine tasting rooms and specialty shops. You can also tour the Vineyard outside on golf carts provided. Also usually live acoustic music Thursdays through Saturdays. Visit the Croghan Maple Musuem 16 miles away and learn of the rich history of Maple Syrup production in Lewis County. Visit the Rail Road Musuem also in Croghan. Also in Croghan area visit the Mennonite Heritage Farm. Oh and also when your in Croghan do not forget to buy some fresh famous "Croghan Bologna" and stop by the "Croghan Candy Kitchen" and buy a great varity of homemade candies. Go Horseback riding at Still Meadow Ranch, they have miles of new trails that wind through gently rollingmeadows and forests. Amazing views of the Adirondacks and the Black River Valley. Visit and drive by the Tug Hill Wind farm just outside of Lowville and marvel at the many Windmills. There are designated Windmills you can drive too and park at base and take photos. You can also visit the Lewis County Historical society in Lowville. Also every Saturday visit and shop at the Farmers Market at the Lowville Fair Grounds Pavillion. 1000 Islands Region is 1.25 hours away, go on Uncle Sam Boat Tour commencing from the tourist village of Alexandria Bay. This tour is very scenic and can learn the history of the area ,also makes a stop at the famous Boldt Castle . The tourist village of Old Forge is 40 minutes away. Visit Enchanted Forest and Water Safari, or visit the many specialty shops, or go on a diner cruise starting on First lake then going to Fourth Lake . And of course if your really not into the tourist life, or crowded places you can always hang out at my beautiful cabin, sit on the porch and read, or invite a few friends over and start a campfire in our firepit and listen to the sound of the peacefull river. Winter Go downhill skiing at Snow Ridge Ski Resort in Turin about 15 minutes away. Also downkill ski at McCauley Mountain in Old Forge NY about 50 min away . Go cross country Skiing , or snowshoeing ,from Cabin drive down to end of Sperryviile Road at snow plow turn around ,State parking lot ¼ mile from cabin. Then you can access miles of trails for skiing. There are also other places to access you can access trails nearby. Go snowmobiling. You can rent snowmobiles from 4 different Places where you drive the snowmobiles directly from the shop that are right on the hunreds of miles of designated trails. “Amazing vacation property”

Reviewed 16 Nov 2016

This property was beautiful, relaxing and extremely comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped. The beds are very comfortable. The cottage is nicely decorated, not cluttered, and immensely clean. We are already planning our next tripS. The waterfalls outback were unexpected and completely awed me. We spent a day touring the Adirondack park and Old Forge. The cheese shop in town was fantastic and if you are in the area I would suggest you stop by. Can't miss it, there is a huge cow with sunglasses out front.

“The Trout Fishing Getaway/2 year anniversary”

Reviewed 29 Apr 2016

This Trip was certainly needed, Started out as a weekend getaway for a night or two and by the time we had gotten there and seen the landscape and the beauty of this new cabin we could not resist staying another night or two!! Ralph the OWNER was Really great, he had pointed us to all the different hiking and nice places in the area and was the type of person that you felt comfortable working with. He had everything you possibly can think of provided at the cabin and he was only a phone call away and a short distance in case of emergency!! My girlfriend and I had done some fishing immediately upon arrival in the stream in back of the cabin and also caught some brown trout the first day there... right down the road was this awsome place on eatonville road,, at the end of it there is a foot bridge and you can drive back a ways and get out to a spectacular view and some really amazing native trout fishing all within arms reach of the cabin....My girl and I also took a day trip to old forge and found that most of the shops were open even early on in the season and we had some great food and good laughs. Big moose river was one of our favorites and we fished that and caught some larger fish and also hiked back to Remsen Falls off the hiking road. Saw some bear tracks at my hidden gem location at brown tract ponds off uncas road off 28... I grew up with my family and grandparents going to that camp and it still holds the same feeling... when we hiked in the dirt access road was not fully opened yet.. Caught a large mouth bass and enjoyed memory lane... I am very upset we had to come back to reality and get back to work. But hey If your reading this don't tell too many people because We WILL DEFINITELY BE COMING BACK . More than once and don't want to have to stay somewhere else!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND STAYING IN RALPH'S CABINS!!!!! Aaron and Brandi Rochester , NY

“Beautiful cabin in the Adirondack's”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2016

Ralph and Mary have a gem in a beautiful setting in the Adirondack's and we were fortunate to spend a long weekend away at this amazing cabin. The interior and exterior should be photographed for Adirondack Life and HGTV! Every detail down to the black bear outlet covers and the top quality bedding adds to the Adirondack experience. The furnishings are so comfortable and hand made by local Amish! This was a true labor of love and all who experience this place will want to come back. From enjoying the fire pit and listening to the waterfalls on the creek to hiking along the creek in the acres of woods on the deer paths and running to town for a meal was the perfect way to spend a long weekend in March. I can only imagine how beautiful it will be come spring, summer and autumn. We hope to be back soon!

Owner's reply: Laura thank you for a truly honest and great review. I truly enjoy people who enjoy the "Cabin Life" and take great pleasure in having people love this special spot on the creek that only God could create.

“Amazing location!”

Reviewed 3 Feb 2016

We were looking for a place to go and unplug. This cabin is set upon the falls/babbling brook and it was serene. The cabin is brand new and very clean as you'd expect. The wood burning stove was excellent and we had more than enough firewood set aside for us. Ralph stopped by to welcome us and he was very nice and hospitable. We forgot a couple of items like cooking oil but fortunately the Grieg Grocery Gas and Soda store was a 5 minute drive and had 1-2 of everything you'd need. We highly recommend this VRBO.

Owner's reply: Tim I am glad you enjoyed my cabin your welcome any time to visit again.
