Description of the Gloucester vacation home rental
Rockport ocean and beachfront! This immaculate 3 bedroom 3 bath home has been completely remodeled in the highest standard but retains hints of the interesting historical importance of the home that was the original U.S. base established in 1884 for the first Trans-Atlantic Cable originating in Ireland via Nova Scotia to Cape Ann and back to France. Here is an excerpt from the May, 1884 "New York Times" description of the event and resulting Cable House.

"The cable will come ashore on Cape Hedge, on the south side of Cape Ann, about two and a half miles from the centre of the town. Near the beach a testing station is being built and is nearly complete. An operator will live there while the testing preliminary to the delivery of the cable to the company is going on, and this may last several weeks... The plans for this station contemplate a modest, but attractive, little structure of one and a half stories, in which provision has been made for the operating-room, Superintendent's office, testing and battery rooms, and work-room."

The house in 2009 is a high end family home with glorious views and situated on Pebble Beach and a short walk from the sand and surf of Cape Hedge beach. The granite kitchen with commercial grade stainless appliances is open to the dining room and a sitting room overlooking a deck, yard and the ocean. From the dining room one can access a lovely stone patio with a webber grill where you can enjoy your al fresco creations. In the den sit on the oversized comfy sectional to view the large, wall mounted flat screen TV. This level is completed by a half bath and full laundry room. A half a story up to the room that doubles as an office and game room with an antique game table in its center. The second floor has a single bedroom and the oceanview (through the wall of windows and private deck) master with a queen bed ensuite with a granite bath with double sinks, large soaking tub and separate shower. The third floor has a huge family suite with beautful views to the east, north and south and a queen bed as well as two single beds. The bath is brightly tiled with a south-of-the-border theme and a port hole to observe those views again. Off street parking for two cars. Immerse yourself in Rockport and its history!

Area Information
At the northern-most tip of Cape Ann lies the quaint town of Rockport. Settled in 1690, Rockport quickly became a leader in granite cutting; many of these outcrops can be seen today at various quarries. A host of interesting shops and galleries are located on Bearskin Neck and surrounding Rockport's charming harbor, which is still home to an active fishing fleet. Rockport is one of the country's oldest artist colonies and boasts some of the most widely painted seaside landscapes in the world, including the coastal shack known as Motif #1.

The Cable house is beautiful. Very clean and well kept, layout of the house worked well for my entire family. Proximity to the beaches as well as both Rockport and Gloucester was perfect. Quiet area with a beautiful view and direct access to the water was wonderful. Instead of feeling like a rental house, this really felt like a beach home.
