Description from owner

DownEast Maine at it's best! Just minutes from the spectacular Schoodic Peninsula and within the boundaries of Acadia National Park, this beautiful four bedroom, two bath home with gorgeous views of the ocean is located in Lighthouse Point, an exclusive community of high end homes situated just behind Prospect Harbor Lighthouse.

Secluded from the road, this seaside home sits atop a rocky granite shoreline coast, with bold crashing surf and deep water access. Spend long leisurely days enjoying the beautiful panoramic views of Sand Cove, extending out to the open Atlantic Ocean. Watch eagles fly above, seals sunning themselves off shore, along with other wildlife that call this area home. Take a bike ride, play pool or simply swing in the hammock with a pillow and good book. Fall asleep to the sounds of crashing ocean surf on the rocks outside your bedroom window.

The home is in pristine condition with all top of the line furnishings, artwork, antiques, handmade quilts and luxury bedding. Cable TV, phone and Internet are available. All the amenities of home.

In addition, we offer another three bedroom, 2 bath cottage within walking distance that can also be rented for family gatherings, etc. We do not update our calender, so please call for availability.

Thanks

“Awesome. Beautiful. Peaceful.”

Reviewed 4 Oct 2015

The house on the shore of Prospect Harbor met and exceeded our expectations. The view from the back deck was breath taking, especially at sunrise. The bedrooms were very comfortable and we were lulled to sleep every night by the sound of waves crashing on the rocky shoreline below. The kitchen is very well stocked with dishes, utensils, and equipment. The Zitos were excellent to work with. The notebook that they put together and left on the kitchen cabinet with instructions, restaurant recommendations, sight seeing tips, etc was very helpful. We totally recommend this vacation home.

Owner's reply: Thanks for keeping the place immaculate.

“Pammie in Schoodic”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2014

My darling mother-in-law braved the airlines from Chicago and the12 hour road trip from Pennsylvania to find herself falling asleep to the crashing waves of Sand Cove. Since 1990, my wife and I vacationed in Acadia seven times and spent four of them in Schoodic. This time we splurged with Pammie and reaped the rewards. A well appointed comfy house with Tempurpedic mattresses, BIG screen TV, WiFi, and a Viking in the kitchen. Many upgrades include the modern fully equipped kitchen, a handy mud room, and pleasant decorative items all around (including a document of appropriate medicinal treatment in the loo). No need to find a pool hall or bring the mountain bike and Frenchman's Bay Conservancy privides plenty of day hikes in the area. Its a digital photographer's dream in the back yard with hummingbirds, eiders, and the sunrise and all the family photos to capture the memory.

Owner's reply: Glad you enjoyed it. John

“Fantastic property”

We loved our first trip to Maine, and found this property outstanding. It was spotlessly clean, the location was beautiful--sort of remote, but had beautiful views of the water. The owners are awesome, so helpful with guidance, tips, and nice gift, and willing to help with anything before or during the vacation. We'd love to go again and would recommend this property to anyone.

“Great Week near Scoodic Point”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2013

We loved out week at John and Judy's. Their house has a peaceful location off a dirt road, yet is close to Winter Harbor and Schoodic Point. We slept to the sound of the surf--amazing--and looked forward to seeing the bald eagle fly by several times each day. The place was spotlessly clean, neat, and uncluttered. John and Judy clearly have put a lot of thought into making their house comfortable for visitors. Everything was of high quality.

“Perfect vacation!!!”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2013

The cottage, the scenery, the area are just the perfect combination for a great vacation. The cottage is truly beautiful with very recently updated kitchen, beautifully decorated, high speed internet, games, movies, etc. You can relax, enjoy the large deck with a great view, watch movies at night and sleep with the windows open and listen to the sounds of the ocean. The kitchen is fully equiped so if you would like to eat at the cottage, you can prepare a gourmet dinner. The cottage is just 10 minutes away from some must go restaurants. All sightseeing like Acadia National Park and whale watching are within 45 minutes drive. The entire stay was absolutely relaxing and enjoyable.

“Great time in Maine”

Reviewed 11 Mar 2013

If you are looking for the quintessential Maine experience; look no further than Schoodic house. To say the scenery here is beautiful is an understatement. The crashing surf, rocky coastline and wildlife (we saw an eagle) are exactly what you would expect in Maine. The house itself was perfectly appointed and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Everything was so cozy; we were happy to stay home on a misty day and just relax with a good book. The area around Schoodic is also picturesque with lots of cute shops, cafés and great restaurants. We had a delicious dinner at Croker House. Also, be sure to spend a day in Bar Harbor. If you want outdoor activities Acadia National Park is right at your doorstep. All in all, it was a wonderful trip and we hated to see it end. Can't wait to come back.

“Vacation for body and soul”

My family and I stayed at Schoodic House to celebrate my 60th birthday. This was the quintessential "heaven on earth". I arrived physically and emotionally exhausted and left renewed and refreshed. You arrive at this beautiful home from a secluded drive. The first impression is awesome! You are just yards from the bay and the rocky coast of Maine. There are stairs leading down to the rocky beach and you can sit there for hours watching the tide ebb and flow, the ducks feed under water, the seals sunbathing, the lobster boats pulling up their traps, and the waves crash near your feet. There is a hammock in the yard perfect for afternoon naps. The house has a wrap-around deck complete with chairs and picnic table. Grill is under the deck. Inside the house is charming with many old trunks, pillows, blankets, comfortable furniture and all necessities for housekeeping and cooking (on a small scale). The bedrooms are amazing. Each room is decorated in a different motif and each bed is a different size. All are comfortable. LInens were high-end and absurdly cozy!! The weather is perfect, but prepare for surprises. In the course of a day, you can have sun, showers, fog, mist, breeze or storm. Watching the bay and hearing the waves under all those conditions is an experience not to be missed. TV channels are few and there is no internet; however, there is an excellent library of books, puzzles, games and activities provided. If internet is needed, there is a library at the end of the road with 24/7 service. I sat in the parking lot and checked email. If you need more time and want to be comfortable, a short ride into Winter Harbor takes you to the visitor center. Roxanne is the owner and bakes all her own goodies. YUM!!! Lots of fudge, scones, biscuits, coffee cakes and cookies. You can also get coffee, iced or hot, and soup and sandwich for lunch, ALL home made. The IGA is 5 minutes from the house. Bar Harbor is about 45. Ellsworth is 20 minutes. Don't miss Acadia!!! Schoodic Point is 5 minutes down the road. Mr. and Mrs. Zito were gracious hosts. There was even a Happy Birthday sign hung when I arrived. It was an experience I will never forget, especially the full moon over the bay!!!! Go!! Enjoy!! You will never be the same!

We just wanted to thank you for sharing your beautiful home with my family and me. We found your home spacious and comfortable and very elegant. We were welcomed with lovely bottle of wine in front of door. The inside house was beautiful, as was the spectacular view of outside bay area. My daughter loved your book collection and could have stayed a year to read! I have recommended your place to everyone we tell our experience to. Many thanks for allowing us the opportunity to see Maine with such awesome accommodation.

My friends and I stayed recently at John's vacation house. We loved everything about it. Very nice surroundings, gorgeous view of the ocean, quiet and peaceful. The house itself is very cozy, clean, nicely decorated and supplied with all you need from kitchen items to bedding and towels. The owner, John Zito, was very nice and easy to correspond with. I highly recommend this place and would come back again, if I go to that area again. Dessy
