Description of the Grates Cove vacation home rental
Grates Cove Studios is open year-round, each season offering a new perspective, experience and opportunity in the historic site of Grates Cove. We provide a three bedroom one bath home equipped with washer/dryer and wi-fi. We also have separate studio space with lots of natural light that measures approximately 700 square feet. Our home and studio space are ideal for families, visual and performing artists and writers and dry stone wall enthusiasts. Grates Cove is lined with trails surrounding historic rock wall gardens and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Baccalieu Island Ecological Reserve. Owners Terrence and Courtney are onsite to host and facilitate your stay. The new Grates Cove Studios restaurant now offers home cooked Newfoundland, Cajun and Asian-inspired meals that reflect both Terrence and Courtney's backgrounds and travels. There is also a full kitchen in the house.

About Us
Grates Cove Studios is owned and operated by Artist/Designer Terrence Howell & Courtney Howell, Newfoundland and South Louisiana natives who met in, traveled around and ate their way through South Korea. In 2009, they pitched their family in Grates Cove, the birthplace of Terrence's father, grandmother and many ancestors. Soon after, they bought the old school house in Grates Cove and in 2011 started Grates Cove Studios.

Grates Cove is an outport fishing Newfoundland community two hours from the capital of St. John's along the Baccalieu Trail. Grates Cove is a national historic site lined with trails, rock walls, the Atlantic Ocean and a view of Baccalieu Island Ecological Reserve. This community and environment are ideal for families, artists and dry stone wall enthusiasts who thrive in rural, isolated environments. For owners Terrence and Courtney, Grates Cove has been the inspiration for many of their creative practices including mixed-media visual art, fine wood craft and designs and food. There is nothing like a walk through the rock wall gardens to transport you, not only to the past, but to a future creative place.

Grates Cove Studios offers Terrence Howell's finely crafted wood products and designs as well as an open invitation to visit his current artwork in progress. Grates Cove Studios also accommodates artists and provides housing, studio space and onsite hosts and art facilitation to support artists' work in this creative and productive environment.

The new Grates Cove Studios restaurant now offers home cooked Newfoundland, Cajun and Asian-inspired meals that reflect both Terrence and Courtney's backgrounds and travels. They are having fun creating fusion dishes like their Touton Annie Hamburger and Snow Crab Etouffee. Their open-faced turkey, dressing and gravy dinner, chicken and sausage jambalaya and pea soup are the comfort dishes that can make you feel right at home.

Come for a day, come for a week, come for the month to create, to eat, to explore.
