Area Information
As you leave the endless traffic lights, strip malls and Wal-Marts behind, you will travel thru lightly populated rural Maine to Greenville. Once here you are now in a small outpost town at the edge of the 'Great North Woods'. It is different here; small shops, plaid flannel shirt diners and a couple of wilderness outfitters. Around you are Maine's largest lakes and numerous smaller ponds along with the headwaters of several notable rivers including the Allagash. Mt. Katahdin, just to our north, anchors the northern end of the Appalachian Mtn. chain. Surrounding you are several million acres of working forests, home to the 'American Loggers'. The only traffic jams here are for moose sightings. And this is a recreational wonderland; canoeing/kayaking, white water rafting, hiking, climbing, ATV and snowmobile trails, not to mention fishing, hunting and wildlife viewing.

Cabin was very clean and comfortable, with all amenities you need (Pots, pans, Grill). Pat greeted us, Dave had perfect suggestions on hikes. There are no hidden extra charges for pets or cleaning. The kids loved fishing from the dock and using the canoe. Bonus, we have been visiting this area of Maine for ten plus years and this was the first MOOSE sighting on the property! (ONE YEAR WE EVEN PAID FOR A MOOSE CRUISE AND DID NOT SEE ONE)

My Response
Thank you so much. We do try to provide our guests with comfortable, clean, well equipped cabins. No hidden fees is by design, they are an unpleasant surprise, we can only hope full disclosure catches on with others. Those pesky moose are unpredictable, they allow themselves to be seen when it suits them. So far this summer only one family has been skunked without a sighting. A few guests have had to do some searching but occasionally a moose does walk down the driveway. Next time you visit you will have to take some of Dave's Drives, my new travel guide to the Great North Woods. Dave and Pat.

My daughter and I spent four days here and had the best time! The cabin is very clean and well maintained, and Prong Pond is beautiful and an easy walk through the woods down to the dock. Along the side of the road, we saw deer, a snowshoe hare, and a grouse with her chicks. On the pond we saw a beaver, loons, geese, and ducks. While there, we enjoyed using the kayak on the pond and driving on the logging roads above Kokadjo to see moose (we did see one there, though it's always a stroke of luck when you see them). Prong Pond is a peaceful place with beautiful sunrises, loon song, and starry nights. The hosts, Pat and Dave, are friendly and very helpful and nearby. I can tell that they really thought about making each cabin feel private. You can drink your morning coffee on the porch or sit on the dock and not feel on display. Bring bug spray, but that's a given on ponds and in the woods!

My Response
Thank you so much for your review, it's great that you captured the essence of what we have tried to do here. We were so fortunate to be able to start with a blank sheet of paper so we could lay things out with our guests privacy in mind. And we will never get tired of local wildlife sightings, even to the point of calling each other via cell to announce them. Pat and Dave

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: By far, the most common question guests ask is: Where can we find a moose?
A: Having lived in the area for 20+ years we have seen the frequent comings and goings of this beautiful animal. To make your quest easier we have written a brochure on the subject called "Moose Sighting 101". To go with that we have also written a guide to the many back roads where these critters can be found called "Dave's Drives" These guides can be found in your cabin just waiting for you.
Q: What family activities do you recommend?
A: First, just head down to the dock, paddle the canoe and kayaks around the pond looking for wildlife, go fishing with the kids, watch the sun come up..
Hiking trails on site, and many more hikes of various difficulty outlined in the brochure in the cottage.
Waterfalls: Moxie, Gulf Hagas, Big and Little Wilson, Toby, and several more.
Steamship Katahdin for the "3-hour tour", Shuttle boat to Kineo, then climb to the fire tower.
A scenic flight at Currier's - see the big lake, Mt. Katahdin and more.
