1 / 13 "Bathtub" in the Rocks

Pets allowed:
Wi-Fi available:

1 Full bath

Description from owner

This cozy cottage on wonderful Hancock Point offers a beautiful view of Mount Desert from the cottage or from its beach. The beach, one of the best on the Point, offers giant rocks for sitting and a large expanse at low tide for seeking beach glass or sunbathing, as well as a "bath tub" that nature built nestled in the big rocks -- great for little children to dip their feet in.

The cottage itself, with it's high ceiling and loft, feels open and friendly. The large living room with beautiful views gives onto a sunporch, great for watching for lobster boats and enjoying meals.

There are two bedrooms downstairs, both with double beds, as well as two double beds in the loft, a favorite area with kids. The bathroom with it's original claw foot tub is modern and bright. The kitchen is well equipped and functional.

The. cottage can be rented for a minimum of one week.

About the area

Located in Hancock Point, this cottage is in a truly idyllic location. Tennis is a block away, for a fee. One can kayak off the cottage shore, and sailing takes off from the local dock. The view is of Acadia National Park across Frenchman's Bay. Hancock Point has a wonderful library, a chapel, and an inn. There are wonderful views all around from the roads that follow the shoreline.

Getting around

A car is a must here. You can walk all around the Point including to the tennis courts, the dock, the library and the chapel. But the nearest convenience store is in Hancock, 5 miles up the road. Ellsworth, another 16 miles on Rte. 1, has everything you might need. A wonderful day trip is to Mount Desert Island where there is so much to enjoy.

Getting here

Our cottage is located at the tip of Point Road, 5 miles from Hancock which is located on Route 1. We are about 1 hour from the Bangor National Airport which is just off Interstate 95. we are about 20 minutes from the airport in Trenton.

Interaction with guest

While the owner is just a phone call away, our caretaker is within minutes of the cottage as well as being a phone call away. There are many coves and bays in the area to visit. Our favorite outing is to the Jordan Pond House on Mount Desert Island (a 45 minute trip) for popovers on the lawn following a 3.5 mile hike around Jordan Pond. On a stormy day, a visit to Schoodic National Park is an exciting experience. The most fabulous local cultural enrichment experience comes from the Monteux School of Music in Hancock the summer session of which runs from the end of June through July.

“Perfect Maine coast experience”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2016

The cabin was a delight and we didn't want to leave. Comfortable, cozy, surprisingly roomy. In rain and shine this was a beautiful spot to spend time on the coast of Maine. Well equipped kitchen, inviting spaces, and an unsurpassed view of Mt. Desert Island from the charming sunroom overlooking Frenchman Bay. We will come back to this spot if we get the chance.

“Idyllic, Beautiful, Invigorating & Refreshing”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2014

The sound of the Atlantic against the rocks was wonderful both to go to sleep to and waking in the morning. The rocks provided a perfect perch for a cup of tea and breakfast and the most beautiful morning viewing. The house was lovely it had a clean fresh smell when walking into it and decorated tastefully and sympathetically to suit the property's character and age. It had a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. A perfect last week's stay to a three week holiday in the USA. Thankyou. We would happily return again.

“Rustic but beautiful location”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2014

The location is superb- full on view of the Acadia mountains. Hancock Point is a very special place, where we have vacationed each summer. The cabin is rustic but comfortable. The only lack from my point of view is a comfortable place to sit and watch the ocean- take your own lawn chairs/chaise lounge. The front porch is small and there is no deck. The beach is wonderful and offers a good place to hang out at low tide. it's not there at high tide.

“"Memorable Trip"”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2013

"Memorable trip" that was how our 16 year old grandson from California described his stay at this quaint, comfy cottage on Hancock Point. The views of bay and Cadillac Mountain are spectacular. The access to the water is fun. The beach space in front is one of the best on the Point. We were able to land our kayaks out front and stop for lunch. Cottage is quaint looking and furnished with comfortable beds and furniture. Kitchen has large fridge and plenty of dishes, utensils, etc to make eating in just as enjoyable as going out. Having washer / dryer saves trips to laundromat and makes packing easier. Loft sleeping area was warm on 90+ degree days, but cooled off nicely with normal temperatures and fans. Plenty of space for kids to spread out and have their own area up there. This is a most enjoyable area and a terrific place to stay to experience the peacefulness and beauty of Hancock Point.

What a lovely cottage on a BEAUTIFUL point with the ocean in the back yard and a view of Acadia in the distance. Intoxicating ocean breezes and the sound of surf made this a standout 9 days. Hancock Point is a great place to walk with beautiful Maine coast scenery - sailboats in harbor, misty mornings, nice homes and cottages. Its a great spot and easy drive to Ellsworth and under an hour to Bar Harbor for shopping and restaurants. The cottage itself has good energy and is comfortable. The ocean ambiance and location couldn't be better. Definitely a memorable time.

“Heavenly and comfortable”

Reviewed 28 Feb 2013

This is a somewhat rustic cottage in a charming, low-key oceanfront community. It has a gorgeous view, even better than the pictures here. The house is not high-end but has all the essentials and is very comfortable and cozy. It's "just right." I've rented it several summers and only wish I could do so again this year.

“Wonderful Cottage”

Reviewed 8 Nov 2012

This property is a real cottage. It's not fancy or equipped with high-end amenities. Rather, it is a step away from the hustle and chaos of urban, professional life. The view is spectacular. The wind wafts through the open windows scented with the salt and pine aromas that permeate the Point. It is the southern most house on the point and it is beautiful. The beds are comfortable. The kitchen more than adequate. If you are lucky, the fish man will deliver to your door. Tennis and sailing opportunities for children and adults alike are within walking distance. The ocean rises and falls, lapping gently and invitingly at the cliff base. It's cold but you can swim in the crystalline waters if you are brave. Dogs are welcome and enjoy lazing in the sun, chasing chipmunks and insects, swimming and walking. The community is present in a friendly and open way. We will definitely be returning.

Owner's reply: I think this review pretty much captures the essence of our cottage.
