Description from owner
This lakefront, chalet-style home is located on the shores of Great Moose Lake in Hartland, Maine. Great Moose Lake covers 3500 acres and is a popular destination for those looking to find a quieter off-the-beaten-path place to vacation. The home is located on Great Moose Lake's huge northeast cove, providing easy access to the main body of water but not as busy to boating traffic.
Located just over three hours north of Boston, this home is ideally situated for spring, summer and autumn vacations. There is 125 feet of very private rocky/sandy frontage on the lake with a 25 foot dock to access the water from. The frontage itself is deep water with a small sandy access area for smaller kids and deep-water from the end of the dock. There is a public boat launch available, however, if you can lift your boat, you can back your small boat right up to waters edge and launch from this homes waterfront.
On Great Moose Lake, you will enjoy swimming, boating, windsurfing, water-skiing, tubing, sunning, fishing, or simply cruising around the lake exploring all this lake has to offer. New this year is a huge floating dock and swim float, the perfect place to spend a lazy summer day soaking up the sun. Also on sight is a 6 man outdoor hottub. If you do not have your own boat, I do have an 18' pontoon boat for rent ($400 for the week). Fishing is open year round and you can expect to catch Brown trout, large & small mouth bass, white and yellow perch and Brookies in the tributaries.
For the autumn vacationers, October holds some of the most beautiful foliage outside of the white mountains you'll ever see and November on Great Moose Lake is a hunter's paradise. There have been several good sized bucks taken over the years by the hunters who have stayed at the house.
The interior of the home is simply beautiful. Most of the interior was custom built in knotty pine and the hardwood maple floors simply light up the home. There is an open and airy loft overlooking the living room with huge glass windows overlooking the deck and lake. The finished basement holds the fourth bedroom and has sliders directly facing the lake. The fully-equipped kitchen is available for your home cooked meals. A washer and dryer are also provided. The first floor master bath is full sized and the upstairs bath is a 3/4 bath. The home has approximately 2600 square feet of living space. There is a full-size soft and fluffy futon in the loft, so if you are the kind of person who likes to wake up to an expansive view of a pristine Maine lake, then you will want to claim that as your bed!
Please note, dogs are welcome with one exception, they must be quiet, i.e. no perpetual barkers. Folks who live and vacation on Great Moose Lake do so for the peaceful serenity of the area, so please respect that. If you have any questions regarding this policy please don't hesitate to contact me.
In-season (May-Nov) housekeeping is provided prior to your arrival along with sheets and towels. While I am open to discussions regarding off season long term (2+weeks) rentals, I have no set policy. I typically shut the house down for the winter in December, but would keep it open for a longer term rental.
Beds: 2 Queen Beds, 1 Double Bed, 4 Twin Beds, 1 Sofa Bed, 1 Crib

“Awesome memories of a lifetime!”
I cannot say enough great things about this wonderful place! We arrived to an immaculate house with the most amazing views! The peace and quiet is exactly what the doctor ordered. The house beautifully furnished it has everything you could possibly need. The morning coffee on deck overlooking the lake could be addicting. Pictures do not do the views justice. The owner, John, was wonderful to deal with! He is responsive to any and all questions and makes every effort to ensure you have a memorable time! I know my daughters will always remember their time here and they cannot wait to go back again!
“Relaxation at it's best!”
My husband Bill and I and our dog Mickey, actually stayed in John's chalet in October 2004. We had been to Bah Habah in 2001 and wanted a more relaxing Maine experience. John's house was PERFECTION! During email conversations with John, we mentioned that we had enjoyed kayaking (we had been ONE time). When we got to the house, there sat a brand spanking new kayak. Not the kind we had enjoyed in Bar Harbor but we had fun. I'm sure the residents of the lake enjoyed watching us go round and round in circles laughing hysterically! Mickey enjoyed it too! The house was well appointed and truly very comfortable. We lacked for nothing, except lobster, which we got EVERY night at the Walmart nearby! We walked the road each day. We met Gary and BJ and had just a great time. We saw great color and can't say enough about John and the house. If you want relaxation, this is the place to stay. Highly recommend this chalet.
Owner's reply: Thank you Dee! Has always been a pleasure hosting you and Bill, definitely two of my finest clients over the years! you went the whole review and didn't mention Oak Pond Brewery, I'm surprised :-)
“Beautiful stay in Hartland, Maine on GML!”
We have stayed at this property on several occasions. It is clean, well maintained and so peaceful. The boat and lake are amazing. We love spending quality time in the hot tub which overlooks the lake. The neighbors are helpful and kind and John, the owner, is really easy to deal with when booking. We hope to come back to GML in the late-fall to experience more of Maine's four seasons.
“Great place to spend time with family and friends!”
Wonderful private spot. On a quiet pond, great for those who love the lake scene but find jet skis like fingernails on a chalk board. Amazing fishing for a smaller body of water (if you know where to look!) Lots and lots of space, from the basement to the upstairs to the deck - great for families that like to spread out and do some real vacationing. Close to civilization (Hannaford, WalMart, DD, etc.) but not too close. Great neighbors, but private enough that you probably won't see them unless you are looking for them.
“mid September long weekend”
Spent 3 days and nights from September 15-18. House was clean, very comfortable, and had ample amenities. The weather was great, sunny and mid to high 70's during the day. Water was beautiful and definitely warm enough to swim in. Was absolutely shocked at how few people and boats were on the water in such gorgeous weather. Great peace and quiet made for good fishing of the shorelines from the pontoon boat. Large and smallmouth bass were plentiful, along with perch. Couldn't find the trout, as the water was very warm. At night, we grilled some food, warmed up in the got tub, lit a campfire outside, and enjoyed more of the peace and quiet. All in all, great place to stay, especially in mid September, when apparently no one else is around...
