Reviews for this vacation home rental in Highland, New York
Expected too much?
June 21, 2013
Beautiful view and nice beds. The main floor and basement needed cleaning. Owner said it was 1/2 hour from West Point and it was 1 hour no matter which route we took. Said the pool would be ready. It wasn't for the entire visit. The heat and air conditioning didn't work in 1/2 the house. We were told in advance it was well water and drinkable. It smelled BAD. Bought lots of bottled water. Our first time to rent a home and probably our last.

Wonderful experience, Everything you need & more
July 10, 2012
I've stayed at Dan's house long-term for business reasons for a few months. Dan's house is definately my "home away from home!". It is a very comfortable house with everything you need. Dan keeps the house fully stocked. The view is amazing, the property is very private and hidden, you can't even see the house from the road which is also on a dead-in road so there are no cars driving by. House is pet friendly and a paradise for your dog! Can't beat the pool and the view from of the River. I must also state that Dan is an excellent host, always available and just plain awesome!! Thanks for everything Dan!! We'll definately stay again whenever in the area.

perfect holiday weekend getaway
July 8, 2011
A large group stayed at this wonderful home for a long holiday weekend. The house comfortably fit our large group of adults and children. The pool area, outside sitting area with great grill along with a stellar view were absolutely perfect. Best of all, the owner was accessible and helpful prior to and during our stay. This is a place you wish you could come to at any time when you want to get away and relax.
MOM loved it!!!!
November 14, 2010
OMG! this is an amazing place!!!! I stayed here with my mom and my best friend, her son, and my son. Our boys are 12 and 13 years old. We had such an amazingly relaxing time. The boys totally enjoyed the karaoke and my mom enjoyed listening to us. My son played the piano and boy was that a treat!!!! Those lessons are really paying off! The view is the most best view ever. The house overlooks the Hudson River and it's soooo relaxing. During the mornings we watched the birds at the bird feeder. We saw a red headed woodpecker and blue jays. At night we gazed at the wonderful stars above and started a beautiful fire in the fireplace. This by far was my mom's best weekend ever. It was a great pleasure giving my mom the opportunity to experience something so beautiful. One more thing.... I took the boys horseback riding about 30 mins away from the house at a place called Juckas Stables. That was a highlight for them. This place is amazing and HIGHLY recommended. Well worth it!
Best vacation week!

We had an amazing family and friends vacation/mini reunion at Dan's home. The house is gorgeous, the view unbelievable. Every room is a room with a view! There are two full length decks, including a fabulous hammock for reading or an afternoon nap. Every detail is welcoming to guests. It is close to a large grocery story (about 5 minutes), bagel shop, movie theater (10 min). Great location for tourists on a longer visit to the Hudson Valley. We live only 15 minutes away but it was truly like being in another world. We called it our mini vacation paradise. The in-ground pool and surrounding deck were perfect for all of our family members, ranging from 12 to 79 in age! Dan is also a fabulous landlord. He is attentive to every request and quick to respond and accommodate. We'll definitely be back!

best birthday ever
May 22, 2010
I've been meaning to write a review ever since I stayed here -- a bunch of my friends from NYC came up to celebrate my 30th birthday and had a fantastic time! The house and setting was beautiful. Everything was well-stocked and labeled...not to mention all the fun activities (ping pong, pool table, karaoke) that we took full advantage of. My friends and I still talk about the place a year later and all of us want to go back or buy the place!

Beautiful Riverfront House
February 3, 2009
I recently stayed at Dan Critchett's Hudson Riverfront House in Highland NY. When my fellow guests and I arrived, we were amazed at the sheer beauty of the house and the incredible view of the river from the deck. The amazement did not end there. Every room was spacious and neatly presented, and the beds were so comfortable we had a tough time leaving the house. We never found ourselves with nothing to do, thanks to the variety of games around the house, from ping pong to pool table to singing with the karaoke machine. We had an incredible stay and will without a doubt be making another visit in the future.

We rented this lovely locale for my 60th birthday gathering..... the kids [30 somethings] were able to get here so easily from NYC via train.... The cooling weather added so much to our experience....the view was spectacular and the pool was delightful.... This is the best stocked place [supplies & amenities]we've ever stayed.... Although it seemed to be in the midst of minor renovations, it was beautifully appointed.... we will be renting here again!
Dear Dan. Oh my, we have never experienced anything like this house. The view, the setting, the nature all around us. And the way it's laid out with so much room and privacy, it felt like a luxury hotel. This was a family reunion we will remember forever thanks to the relaxed, bucolic atmosphere you have created in this house. We'll be back. Your friends, Herbie and Kim
