Description from owner

Dear travelers,

Thanks so much for checking out our property!

If you'd like to make an inquiry, please follow instructions at the bottom of this section.

This lovely Highlands mountain home is perched high above a valley between Whiteside and Blackrock mountains with sweeping easterly views of the Smokies.

Bowery Lodge has 8 spacious bedrooms (5 kings, 3 queens) and bathrooms, all well-appointed with high-quality linens, plenty of towels, and bath amenities. Most have an en-suite bathroom, view, sitting area, and fireplace. The grand king suite also has a separate sitting area with a crib.

The three interior levels offer many options for gathering together, and plenty of cozy spaces to retreat to. Watch the sunrise or the fog roll in from two levels of decks and balconies, or while enjoying the outdoor fireplace and a soak in the hot tub.

The naturally landscaped lot is situated on a private road with off-street parking for 8 cars (no street parking). There's a short walking trail with rope swing, and a darling playhouse for the kids.

You probably won't want to leave the property...but if you must, Highlands is just 3 miles away down an easy residential road. Stroll along quaint Main Street for some shopping and dining; and stop by the Highland Hiker for outdoor gear and great local advice on what to do in the area, such as hiking, fishing, golf, swimming holes.

Bowery Lodge is a gathering place for friends and families, and is not available for parties, events, or work retreats.

Shorter visits are considered 3 months prior to arrival at the following rates:

4 nights @ $1,500/night

3 nights @ $1,750/night

2 nights @ $2,250/night

2016 rates are based on up to 16 guests, are subject to change without notice, and do not include tax.

We accept a maximum of 16 overnight guests (depending on group dynamic), with no more than 18 people in the house at any time. No additional guests (day or overnight) are allowed without prior written approval and additional charges may apply.

Our calendar is kept up to date with confirmed reservations, but does not reflect pending reservations. Priority is given to family and returning guests, and therefore we're typically unable to confirm 'first-time' bookings until about 6 months prior.

Children are welcome, but the property poses some dangers (cliffs! bears!). We consider total number and ages to determine whether our house is a good fit for your group, and require a ratio of two adults per child to ensure adequate supervision.

For our new guests, we require a referral from a past guest or a reference from another vacation rental owner.

TO MAKE AN INQUIRY, please provide the following:

- specific dates and alternate dates if there's flexibility

- phone number with a good time to call you

- information about your group: # adults with general ages, # children with specific ages, where you're coming from, and the reason for your visit (i.e. family reunion, wedding, golf retreat, etc.).

- what drew you to our place (just a quick detail so I know you're a real person!)

- please also review rates and minimum stay requirements before inquiring.

- We have a 5 night minimum for our standard rate, but do offer shorter stays at an increased rate.

- We offer discounts to returning guests who treat or home well, but don't answer inquiries asking for discounts

Thanks so much for your time, and I look forward to speaking with you!

“Thanksgiving at the Bowery Lodge”

Reviewed 7 Dec 2016

We had an excellent stay at the Bowery Lodge over Thanksgiving week. The views were beautiful and the amenities were awesome. We had a lot of family fun playing pool and enjoying the hot tub. We also utilized the lovely fireplaces tthat certainly added to the mood and ambience. The views from the bedrooms were also gorgeous. The nearby shopping was delightful , as were the hiking trails. We had a fun afternoon at a local brewery. Being that it was Thanksgiving and we were cooking for 12 people, the kitchen was very important. We found it to be well appointed. We utilized the warming drawer and everything turned out perfectly. There was plenty of cold storage for food also. We were able to expand the table to seat all twelve of us for Thanksgiving dinner. It was just perfect. We would definitely love to come back again!

My family and I had the most wonderful time together in your lovely mountain home during our 5-night stay. The spacious interior is beautiful beyond words with nothing lacking in furnishings and design. The totally equipped kitchen was a real dream and the breath-taking view from the veranda is heavenly, making the total experience a perfect one. I would definitely recommend your lodge.

Everything in the listing and more! Easy and prompt dealings with the owner and local property manager. Six of our seven children were able to join us for this visit, and no one was disappointed. The owner has thought of everything and anticipated every need. Everything was clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the local waterfalls and the beautiful view from the terrace. The town of Highlands was delightful and we especially enjoyed the outdoor wine bar restaurant at the Old Edwards Inn. Our deposit returned immediately. We will recommend this property without hesitation.

My husband and I had the pleasure of joining five other couples to spend four glorious day in the mountains in this fabulous house.
It could not be a more perfect venue for great friends to spend time together and enjoy the area's hiking, shopping and restaurants. Each couple had privacy in their room with en suite bath, and the gathering rooms were perfect for conversation and fun. We brought all of our own meals knowing that dinner each night with 12 people would be challenging, and we found the kitchen to be a chef's dream!
Anyway, after a day of hiking and lunch in a charming cafe, who would want to leave this beautiful place? Few luxury hotels could offer more scrumptious accommodations- from the linens and well-appointed bathrooms to the cozy fireplaces, pool and ping pong tables, and incredible views enjoyed from rocking chairs on the porch. The house could be a designer show house. Every detail in design and decor was thoughtfully planned, yet it had the warmth and welcoming feel of a good friend's home. The owner offered it up as such, even making spices and condiments in the kitchen available to us if needed. We loved this place, and I hope to return one day. I
've heard it said that walking into a well appointed and beautiful home is like receiving a warm hug. This house was that and more. Thank you for sharing it with us and our dear friends!

My wife and I could not have been happier with our experience at this mountain home in Highlands, NC. We got married at The Farm at Old Edwards Inn on 7/20/12. The house was perfect for housing our entire wedding party. The size and decor of the home is very impressive, and the views are absolutely breathtaking. The home was clean and well maintained. Although we were without DirecTV, WiFi, and a functional oven due to lightning striking the house a few days before our visit, we still had a wonderful time. The owner was great in notifying us about this issue before we arrived and making prompt arrangements to get everything fixed. We loved this house and will always remember it fondly. We hope to return in the future!

We have rented this house two years in a row during the Thanksgiving holiday. i can't tell you how perfect it is. it is the only place we have ever rented twice if that helps. This year we were 14 and we all still had more than enough room. the kitchen has ample space and cooking supplies , great knives, a coffee maker that could keep up with even us , games and puzzles to entertian all of us , pool, ping pong , you name it , it is there. With any luck we will be returning soon for my wife's 50th birthday.

The house is very well kept, convenient to town and there are opportunities to walk , run and play right outside the door. There was also someone available in the event of any issues which is always nice to have. My only reluctance in recommending this home is that i do not want to share.
