Area Information
Situated on the West coast in the exclusive parish of St James, Holetown boasts the best platinum beaches and crystal blue waters. Holetown is half a mile north of the world renowned Sandy Lane Hotel.

The nearest beach is accessed through Discovery Bay, and is a three minute walk from the house.

The history of St James is important to the history of Barbados as a whole because it is the location where the first European settlers landed. St James was named after the English monarch at the time of the landings in the early 17th Century. Before being named after him, the area was called “Little England”, reflecting the intentions of the British to make it a well-settled colony.

Today it is nicknamed the Platinum Coast, both for the shiny attraction of its waterfront resorts and for the amount of money which comes in to the area as a result of modern day tourism. This reflects the beginning of the twenty first century history of the area, which has seen increased international attention to St. James as a high-end luxury travel destination, unspoilt by tourism.

There is ample access to water sports, superb golf courses and fabulous restaurants, bars and designer label shops at the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre (only a couple of minutes walk away)

Beaches in Barbados are public so you have access to them all. The platinum sand on the west coast looks out onto the Caribbean Sea, warm, azure blue and tranquil. By contrast, the beaches on the east coast overlook the Atlantic Ocean, which is ideal if you are a keen surfer. The beaches on the south coast tend to be busier as this is the budget holiday end of the island.
Attractions within Walking Distance
First and Second Street are a few minutes stroll from the house, where you will find lovely restaurants and bars.

The supermarket, butchers, gas station, banks and other amenities and shops are all within a few minutes walk.
Nearby Restaurants
There are many restaurants to choose from in Holetown, from Just Grillin' at the simple end to The Tides at the high end. The Beach House, Drift Tapas Bar, Zaccios, Nishi (sushi), Ragamuffins, The Mews, The Elbow Room, Spago are just some of the restaurants that are available to you within and easy evening stroll.
Catch the yellow Reggae Bus or the Blue State Bus from the bus stop in Holetown for a $2 ride to anywhere; a very ethnic experience. There is a taxi rank in Holetown just behind the bus stop by the supermarket. Or hire an open top or air conditioned car to explore the island under your own steam.
Best Time of the Year to Travel
The weather on the island is pretty predictable all year round, at approx 27-31 degrees Centigrade being the average. High season is December to April, when people come to Barbados to escape the winter in less fortunate climates.
