Reviews for this vacation condo rental in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii

A True Gem

Everything we read about this condo turned out to be true - stunning ocean views, marvellous sunsets, great location. Looks even better than the photos. I would like to add that the king-sized bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in and the unit is QUIET. An unexpected bonus is that we saved money because we enjoyed having dinner on the lanai while watching sunsets. No restaurant could compare to that treat. There is a good grocery store (Food Pantry) a couple of blocks north on Hobron Street and an even bigger store in Ala Moana Centre. Finally, the owner, Kim, was pleasant to deal with throughout the reservation process and came willingly to our rescue when I goofed up the safe combination. I wish I could return to this Shangri-la tomorrow!

The perfect apartment for those who enjoy the flexibility of self catering. If you thought the photos were good, the place is even better in real life. The unlimited local and mainland calls and the fast broadband make staying here so easy. Fully equipped kitchen with all necessary utensils and the large flat screen TV and comprehensive cable package complete the package. Bus stops are at the front door and across the road - Ala Moana Shopping Center is a 12 minute walk or 1 minute by bus. Absolutely perfect - heartily recommend.
Everything you'd want for a vacation. This remodelled condo has been stylishly decorated, definitely 5 star. The sunset & marina views are a bonus. Ilikai is quiet & a few steps to Waikiki Beach, restaurants & shopping, Ala Moana Shopping Centre is 3 blocks away. Buses & trolleys are readily available on the doorstep. The hotel has a concierge that is very handy for booking tours, & the pickups are at the front door. The owner of the condo was very accommodating, early check-in & late check-out were offered if available. The condo has exceptional facilities if dining in suits you. A laundry is available down the corridor. We were very sad to leave, an extremely comfortable holiday. I will have no hesitation in recommending this condo to all my friends & family. Thanks again, Aloha.

This is our third stay at the Ilikai, but first with Condo 1531 and I am happy to say that it was a very pleasant surprise to arrive to a brand new, very clean and comfy condo. The view is fantastic and it was also quiet. The owner has made sure that everything you need is supplied and it was nice to see a personal note from (the owner) upon our arrival. Nice touch! I would 100% recommend this condo to family and friends.

I am always apprehensive when I turn the key and enter my vacation accommodation for the first time, will it be like the glossy pictures I've seen, and can I trust the reviews that may have been written by letting agents or owners??
So on May 14th 2010 we entered what would be our holiday home for the next 9 days to find that it was actually better than all we had previously read about it. We had been told the condo had been remodeled in March 2010 and you could tell, there was a distinct newness about the place. The overall décor was very nice, the kitchen had everything you needed, the sofa that looked a bit strange in the photo's was surprising comfortable and the view from the bed as you woke up in the morning was fantastic. We were also a bit worried about the balcony, was it really big enough to sit outside, have diner and watch the sun go down? No worries there, the balcony was a lot bigger than it looked in the pictures and on top of that there were great views over the marina and spectacular sunsets in the distance.
The only downside was that the hotel next door is just coming to the end of a major remodel, whilst we were there they were finishing off the interiors of the rooms but they were also working on the outdoor pool 15 floors below us. Although they were working seven days a week and there was noise from time to time it did not spoil the overall experience, from what we seen we would expect all major work to be complete by the end of June 2010.
Make sure you are on your balcony Fridays night where you can look down on the Luau going on below and make sure you get down on the water front just in front of the Hilton to see the Friday night firework display.
The hotel that the condo is in looks and feels like a 70's hotel, it's old but clean and the staff are friendly. We never tried the hotel restaurant as there are many places outside to go to, we did try the outside bar which was pleasant but closed before 10 pm at night. The hotel pool was a good size but because of the depth I would not class it as small child friendly but there is a pool attendant always there.
If you want a good bar with good food you only need to walk around the corner to The Harbor Pub and Pizza. This is a local's bar with lots of character where the staff are very friendly, the pizza is really tasty and there is a chance that you may end up sharing a beer with one of the local celebrities who played parts in Hawaii 50 or Magnum PI...
All in all, would we go back again? Yes to Oahu and definitely yes to the condo at the Ilikai Hotel.
