Description of the Honolulu vacation villa rental
Property Description
Koko Kai Thai Palace (AlohaPalace). Right now there is in effect an Early Bird Reservation Special Discount Off the prices advertised on our main advertising portal, please contact owner for the information how to find the portal on the web and you will instantly have all the correct and up to date information The Palace is now rented out until the end of April 2017. Homes in residential areas of Honolulu can by law which is very strictly enforced only be rented for a minimum rental term or 30 days, even if the renters end up not physically occupying the home for the entire rental term, so usually it is not possible to rent this home unless the renter pays for a physical occupancy of the home during the 30-day minimum rental period of at least the the minimum physical presence rental term of at least 14 nights, because of the many expenses and costs of ownership and maintenance in top condition of a home such as KokoKaiThaiPalace which simply cannot be covered by a rental for a shorter period, particularly considering that by law there can only be just one rental in any 30 day period and these 30-day minimum rental periods cannot overlap at all, and therefore there are at best only a maximum of just twelve rentals possible in a year!. Therefore there are minimum physical occupancy rental periods which are at a minimum 14 nights, with longer physical stays always preferred, and the check-in date as well as the check-out date have to be entirely within the same calendar month unless you wish to rent for a period longer than 30 days, in which case you will be happy to know that on rentals lasting longer than six months there is only one tax which is just 4.712%, while on so called "Vacation Rentals" there is an additional "Transient Accommodations Tax" which is 9.25% so the tax rate is altogether 13.962%. The longer you physically stay at the Palace, the less you pay for the additional nights of physical occupancy lasting beyond 14 nights. Please contact the owner Milan Frank Vacek for exact price quotes and a proposed rental agreement. The absolute best way to be sure that the owner will be aware of your interest in renting the Palace is to simply pick-up the phone and call the owner Milan Vacek at his cell-phone number, and if he is near his land-line he will immediately call you back from the landline on which he has a "plan" enabling the unlimited calling of any number cellphone or land-line in USA and Canada, or using various services which we all know using his computer and internet which will appear as his cell-phone number enabling calling at no charge almost any phone number in the world including Europe and Australia etc., so do not waste time writing e-mails and first contact the owner by phone and he will let you know how to get the most up to date information so you will know when the Palace is available for rent and how much it costs, and you can ask him all your questions regarding the rates and whatever other information you need, much quicker than writing e-mails back and forth especially if you are trying to rent the Palace for just a couple of nights when you can read that two weeks (14 nights) is the absolute minimum physical occupation during any one 30-day legally mandated minimum rental term, and that reservation requests for rentals longer than the minimum 14 nights and longer are strongly preferred. Regardless how many nights you and your family and friends stay every renter of the Palace contracts to rent the Palace for at least the the legally mandated 30-day minimum rental period during which the owner cannot rent the Palace to anyone else and this is clearly specified on your rental agreement and you have to pay for a physical presence at the Palace lasting at least the the minimum stay of 14 nights, so as long as you will end up renting the Palace for at least the legally mandated 30-day minimum rental period you might at least pay to enjoy physically being at the palace for an entire calendar month or what is optimal for the owner is a rental with your physical presence at the Palace lasting about 28 nights which every calendar month has, allowing time for cleaning the house between rentals, and you will see when you pro-rate the effective nightly cost of such a month-long rental that your overall cost will only be about as much as a quality hotel room nightly rental rate, but instead of a family of 4 you can comfortably accommodate in this Palace a large extended family and/or friends of up to 20 persons who can include well-behaved kids,
and have an experience worthy of being able to scratch an item from your "bucket list" in the sense of "I lived in a Thai Palace in Tropical Paradise called Honolulu and you will all have a great time and wonderful memories. The KokoKaiThaiPalace is a custom home (actually two homes, a very large three-story home with a roomy commercial-grade elevator, and also a separate guest cottage located across the swimming pool from the main home) nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac in the Triangle/Portlock exclusive residential area of Koko Kai in South-East Honolulu in Oahu). This magnificent villa built by Zen Buddhists, to be more precise by a Swiss professor and his Thai-born wife who are both Zen Buddhists, in the style of a Palace in Thailand, with many exotic hard woods and marble imported from Thailand, and features altogether 5 bedrooms and 4 baths and 2 half-baths, with additional sleeping quarters furnished with comfortable Italian designer convertible futon-sofas to sleep a total of 20 adult guests. The Separate-Entry Housekeepers/Storage Room located next to the Carport is not subject of this rental agreement, that is where the owner Milan Vacek stays in a self-contained owners` studio which has a totally separate entrance directly from the driveway and has windows only looking at the (magnificent) view of the entire Hawaii Kai coastline, and will be able to be of assistance to you during your stay, explain how everything works and have repaired or replaced whatever might not be working. This magnificent villa is located high up above the other villas on the side of the extinct crater on the other side of which is the world-famous Hanauma Bay nature preserve which has a pristine sandy beach and very protected live coral snorkeling and diving. Yes, incredible as it sounds, Hanauma Bay is located just over the crater's edge from the backyard of the villa. The home offers beautiful wrap-around views from every room and amazing views of the sunset over Diamond Head crater on Waikiki Beach, ocean and surf views by day and City lights by night, and bonus views of the mountains and marina as well! Custom finishes include exotic imported hard woods, granite & marbles throughout. This property has a great floor plan for a large family, and includes the owners/housekeeper`s studio in the separate-entrance Guest Cottage, separate office area, swimming pool and Jacuzzi. Indoor and Outdoor entertainment space, extra family/TV room with the latest model Large 3D Flat TV's with all the premium cable TV Entertainment channels with the Premium Channel Cable Tuner at every TV location. There is a complimentary land line with unlimited calling in Hawaii as well as in all of the USA, and Canada both cell-phone and land-line numbers, with extension cables newly installed into all bedrooms including the Guest Cottage and the Master Bedroom so you do not have to be a slave to your cell-phone to stay in touch, and a dedicated 100Mb/sec. high-speed broad-band unlimited internet connection newly from Oceanic TimeWarnerCable both via Cat-5 local network cable as well as via WIFI, all at no extra charge. There is 3+ car private parking with gated entry. You can comfortably walk from this home to world famous Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve in 5 - 10 minutes so you don't need a car to go swimming and snorkeling and diving in the world-famous Hanauma Bay Nature Park where every creature including the very friendly and docile tropical fish, the large green turtles and even the live coral are protected and the general public and tourists get to watch a short 10 min. movie (sufficient to see once per year, they keep records) about the ecology and conservation efforts to appreciate the natural wonders of this bay which until 1950 was reserved for the exclusive use of the Hawaiian Royal family, before they can go swimming or snorkeling or diving in it. I recommend that you drive in your rental car to Hanauma Bay in only about two minutes and the parking all day costs only $1.00, and you will have more time to spend swimming, snorkeling and just soaking up the sun on the beautiful white sandy beach! There is an entry fee to keep down the number of visitors and help defray all the additional services and lifeguards present for your comfort and protection but if you arrive during the first hour of operation there is no fee charged (quite frankly, the personnel of the Park who collect the entrance fee and allow free entrance to Hawaii residents, military, kids 12 and under etc. do not arrive until one hour after the park opens, and you still get to watch the free 9-minute video but you get to go in without paying any entrance fee and you can stay all day, this is a little known open secret which enables everyone to enter for free if they are willing to arrive at the park during the first hour of operation, when the sun is shining into the bay and the snorkeling and scuba-diving are best, but you can also enter for free during the last hour of operation by which time the people in the box office have already gone home, and again you still get to watch the video if you have not yet seen it in the last 365 days so you can see that that the emphasis is on education and making sure that you do not ruin the ecology nor scare the fish and turtles rather than just a profit motive. This villa is also within walking distance to 3 shopping centers and fine dining and casual restaurants, gym and theater, and just a five minute drive including free parking everywhere to the ever popular Costco Warehouse, Ross, and many other stores and restaurants in the even larger shopping center located about two miles away! The popular Sandy`s Beach with wild body-surfing and surfing is just a five minute drive, as is a golf-course and many beautiful shoreline attractions, including the Sea Life Park featured in the movie Fifty First Dates. Public transportation is also conveniently close-by at the entrance to the Hanauma Bay parking lot, so you can go all around the island of Oahu by bus if you wish for just a few dollars! A rental car is however strongly recommended so that you will be able to go see all the wonderful sights of the island of Oahu and go shopping or visit one of the many fine beaches with lots of free parking which are close-by anytime you wish and not have to wait for a taxi. By getting a rental car or better yet a 7-passenger van right at the airport as you arrive you will also eliminate the cost of the airport taxi ride. For detailed information about the Palace and which months it is still available and the rental rates please have a look at AlohaPalace or KokoKaiThaiPalace where you will see a link to a detailed up-to-date reservations calendar and a rental rates section and many more photos and information of my home and phone contact information. The owner Milan Vacek is currently living in the completely separate entry Housekeeper`s quarters right next to the carport and is available to show you the house practically anytime if you or your friends are in Honolulu and wish to see the Palace provided of course that there are no renters staying in the house in which case of course the renters` privacy is the most important and you will be asked to come back to see the house when there are no renters at the house, unless exceptionally the renters specifically agree to such a showing of the house. By living at the house in the owners unit the owner is finally enjoying living in Hawaii and can help you fully enjoy all the amenities which the Palace offers during your rental by explaining where everything is and how everything works and taking care of any maintenance issues immediately. Newly there have been installed at the Palace a total of more than a dozen high-quality DC-Motor extremely quiet and energy efficient ceiling fans with ceiling lights with wireless remote controls for your increased comfort in the global-warming environment which I am sure that you will greatly appreciate, and window tinting has been added to the large view windows to moderate the late afternoon sun, and in the Master Bedroom on the third floor there are newly installed high quality window shades with little pin-holes in them so if you need to sleep to catch up on jet-lag you will be able to do so and yet still always see the magnificent view. Koi fish are now happily swimming in the beautiful fountain in the foyer of the entrance of the main house for your enjoyment and you are allowed to feed them, in fact you have to feed them because the owner does not go inside the house unless you specifically invite him in to help you with something that you cannot figure out how it works. Newly there are two identical high quality futon-sofa-beds set up as facing sofas in the ground floor entertainment area which when placed together and when covered with the thick memory gel-foam mattress topper make a magnificent bed larger than a California King size bed to create yet another bonus sleeping area with incredibly beautiful views, your own bathroom, wet bar and refrigerator/freezer, and of course those amazing views, same as in the main living area which is one floor above. Some renters have even brought along a professional yoga instructor and conducted yoga sessions in the downstairs entertainment are where there are marble-floor and floor-to-ceiling view windows and I was invited to participate in their yoga sessions which was an absolutely mind-opening beautiful experience! There are now also a couple of infant sleeping cribs (cots) on premises so you do not have to borrow or buy them for your vacation, because those innocent children are after all our future! Mahalo (thank you) for reading this long description of my property and ALOHA, hope you will visit Honolulu and stay in my Palace soon, looking forward to meeting you :-) Because the nights before and after a rental for as physical presence shorter than the entire calendar month are nevertheless by law rented to whatever renter has rented that legally mandated 30-day minimum rental term, regardless how long the renters will actually be physically present, or as is often said, for how many nights the renter will actually occupy the rental home, those remaining nights which are not physically occupied by the renter cannot re rented to anyone else and are thus "unrentable" and do not bring the homeowner any rental income, so please understand that with the high cost of ownership and maintenance in top condition of a home such as the KokoKaiThaiPalace it is simply not possible to rent it for less than the entire calendar month, or at least the optimal part of the calendar month being a 28-30 day rental leaving one or two days in most moths for a thorough cleaning between renters. Therefore rentals for the entire month any month, at the advantageous "monthly rental rate" are preferred over shorter reservations requests. pay by bank transfer from your bank to the owner`s account at the Bank of Hawaii, or alternatively you can pay by choosing the payment by e-check option, or even pay by VISA, MasterCard or American Express directly to the owner who just recently became certified to be able to process credit card payments directly and not to have to go through any portal intermediaries. Just one example of the best deals Milan has to offer, now that the Palace is rented out through the end of April 2017, there is still available the month of May, June, July, August, October, November and December 2017 for you to rent in the coming year. The best bargain are the lowest priced months May October and November 2017, which if you hurry you can still rent for the pre-increase rental rate of just $10,900.00 plus the GE tax 4.712% = $513.61 and the TA Tax 9.25% = $1008.25 and plus the $733.00 Cleaning Fee which already includes applicable taxes on the cleaning fee, and your total rental expense to physically occupy the Palace for each of the above entire months is only $ 13,154.86 USD which includes utilities, and parking on and off premises is of course free. The only other expense is the obligation of the renter who is named as the renter on the rental agreement and who is residing in the USA and specifies their USA address on the agreement to purchase the CSA Travel Insurance Company`s Property Damage Protection policy of Renters Insurance which covers the named renter for up to $ 5,000.00USD worth of accidentally caused damage to the rented property for the very low insurance premium of just $99.00. If the named renter does not have a USA residence address and/or prefers he / she can deposit in the homeowner`s account at the Bank of Hawaii a fully refundable $ 1,000.00 Security Deposit, but needless to say most renters much prefer to purchase the CSA Travel Co. policy. It is always best to simply pick up the phone and call the owner Milan Vacek and inquire about the availability of a particular month and request a proposed rental agreement with the exact calculation of the rental charges and with all the conditions . Hope to hear from you soon, ALOHA from Hawaii Kai, Milan Vacek, owner.
Area Information
Area Description
The home is ideally located high up the side of the extinct crater way above all the surrounding homes offering spectacular unobstructed views of the coastline, and enjoying natural easy breezes from the ocean which flow through the many louvered and screened windows to offer perfectly comfortable fresh air at all times without any need for airconditioning or heating year-round, at one with nature, just as the builders, who are Zen-Buddhists (Swiss professor and his Thai wife) had intended it to be, a perfect place for contemplation, meditation, relaxation and regaining new energy. I hope that you will enjoy staying in my home as much as I do. It is called the KokoKaiThaiPalace because it is on the seeward ('Kai') side of the extinct Koko Crater, and it was built like a Thai Palace, and the street that it is on, Kekaha Place, well isn`t it a coincidence, that 'Kekaha' in Hawaiian means 'The Place' ! This is my place in paradise! I looked up the word Kekaha on the web and the story goes that some locals were driving or perhaps walking around the Island of Kauai and one of them suddenly exclaimed to the others 'KEKAHA !' - there it is - "That`s The Place" pointing out a bay where something exciting happened in his life, perhaps he caught a big fish, and since that time that bay in Kauai is called Kekaha Bay, and in fact all the street names in this part of Hawaii Kai are named after various geographical features and tourist attractions on the island of Kauai, like Poipu Drive right at the corner!
The first available open term for you to rent the KokoKaiThaiPalace (aka AlohaPalace) is for the month of May beginning with the first available check-in date of May 1, 2017, and then the premium summer-vacation months of July and August 2017, when the owner is optimally looking for a two week rental at the very beginning of July and another two week rental at the very end of August 2017 unless of course you are interested in renting the entire month of July and/or August 2015 in which case the owner and his family would use this time to travel to visit the owner`s properties in Australia or perhaps visit some other vacation destination where the kids have never been, life is change and change can be good so this is definitely a possibility and if you are interested in helping make this happen by renting the Palace for an entire month long or two-month-long period in July and August please let the owner know immediately so he and his family can start planning and purchase airline tickets for the lowest possible prices. As far as the minimum rental period for all the OTHER calendar months of the year, the owner is looking for the best offer on rentals for at least 14 nights, preferably longer such as for 3 or 4 weeks or any number or nights longer than the absolute minimum stay of two weeks (14 nights) or so, right up to a full calendar month. Actually, the owner really does not care how short a time you actually physically occupy the Palace so long as you are willing to pay the same amount for the privilege as if you were staying for the minimum 14 nights, but you will certainly enjoy your stay more if you stay long enough to see all the sights and have time to unwind and relax and enjoy the outdoor sports and the fine tropical weather. Just remember that when you leave to fly back to your home town the owner can at least move temporarily back into the third-floor master bedroom and enjoy living in his Palace, unfortunately only until the next renters arrive. The dates that you request must be entirely within any one calendar month in order for the rental to comply with the local 30-day minimum rental ordinance which is very strictly enforced, thus the check-in dates and check-out dates must be both within any given calendar month, unless you are interested in renting for a term longer than one month, ideally longer than six months, then the Hawaii taxes that you pay on the rental are much lower (only 4.712%).instead of 13.962%. The AlohaPalace may be available not just for vacation rentals but also for long term rentals preferably for the entire school year, and is also available for location filming and TV-shows etc., but such rentals are considered same as a vacation rental and thus the minimum rental must be approximately equal to the rental for the minimum of 14 nights otherwise it would not be feasible to rent the Palace for such activity. The location scouts for the popular TV series "Hawaii Five-O" have already visited the Palace recently and took photos so you might soon see the Palace featured in some upcoming episode as soon as they find the ideal screen-play ideally suited for filming in this particular very unusual villa. And yes, the popular Hawaiian-born singer Bruno Marks (as a child he was an Elvis impersonator) did rent the Palace for two weeks ending on Christmas Eve 2011, so the Palace is definitely not your ordinary house. You are very welcome to inquire with the owner, Milan Vacek, about any possible utilization of the Palace in your plans. Hurry and book your vacation now! The Palace is almost always booked out at least six months in advance but it is always best to call the owner and find out immediately in case there may have been some last minute cancellation etc. The owner does not update this particular portal regularly, but when you look at the owners own presentation whose working link is directly below this paragraph you will be able to click the link that you will find there to the "Reservations Calendar" which will instantly take you to the worlds most visited accommodations portal on which the owner has a premium presentation listing which he keeps always up to date which is then automatically cloned to that portal`s many other portals including many international portals so you will then instantly have up to date information to help you decide and book your ideal vacation in Honolulu. Just please remember that this magnificent villa is located in a strictly residential very quiet neighborhood so no loud parties nor any amplified music are allowed particularly after 10PM when the strict noise curfew is very strictly enforced and the neighbors know their rights to peace and quiet, which most renters so much appreciate knowing that they can always get uninterrupted peaceful sleep. So if you are into wild drunken parties and like to make lots of noise this is not the house for you. But if you appreciate the beauty and serenity and majesty and one-ness with nature of the AlohaPalace you will love it!
AlohaPalace
PS - Best beach in the USA according to many lists and also our family favorite is the Sherwood Forest beach at Waimanalo, to get there you must have strong willpower not to turn right into the large public parking spaces to go to very nice but not nearly as nice as Sherwood Beach beaches at the near side of Waimanalo but continue driving only less than another mile or so to where on the right there will be a small McDonald`s restaurant and right there at the corner of the McDonald`s you make a right and drive only two blocks to the end of the street which ends in ... the Pacific Ocean of course at the Sherwood Forest beach, a gorgeous wide squeeky clean white sandy beach with nothing but more fine clean sand in the water where the waves come to shore in a gentle manner which even the kids can enjoy for bogeyboarding and body-surfing or just having safe fun, and there are life-guard stations and comfortable restroom and shower facilities, you will love it as we do. Even closer it the Sandy`s beach which however has the highest number of head and neck injuries so try to keep everyone from going there other than to watch the brave battle the hard-pounding waves with the tremendous undertow that should not be underestimated.which will instantly take you to the worlds most visited accommodations portal on which the owner has a premium presentation listing which he keeps always up to date which is then automatically cloned to that portal`s many other portals including many international portals so you will then instantly have up to date information to help you decide and book your ideal vacation in Honolulu. Other Vacation Rental Amenities
In the nearest shopping center you can sign up the kids for several fun water activities.
You can go hiking directly from the backyard of the Palace up the steep mountain wall of the extinct volcano from which was formed the world-famous Hanauma Bay to the very top ridge of the volcano from which you will have magnificent views not just of spectacular Hanauma Bay but also of the entire Hawaii Kai area and Diamond Head, and then you can walk along the paved access road and go down a path all the way to the entrance of the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, but that would take you some time and you would need very good shoes and be in good physical condition so I recommend driving there, you will be there in two minutes by car, park all day for $1.- and have the most wonderful experience in face-to-face encounters with all kinds of beautiful tropical fish and green turtles, highly recommended. If you arrive during the first hour of the operation of Hanauma Bay Nature park even non-Hawaii Residents get to go in for free and can then stay all day, same is true if you arrive during the last hour of operation.

My family and I spent nearly a year living in Hawaii Kai at Kokokai Palace. my wife and I have seven children and it was a challenge to find a home large enough to accommodate us. Kokokai Palace provided everything that we needed and more.
During our year we had nearly 30 visitors and we were able to accommodate all of them with ease! We thoroughly enjoyed the home during our stay. The views are dramatic. Having the pool and courtyard integrated into the home was very convenient and allowed us to enjoy the tropical setting to the maximum. The meditation gazebo available to us was also special. It was a great place to sit and watch the sunset over Diamondhead.
Now that we are back in Nebraska, suffering through frigid temperatures, we miss Kokokai Palace more than ever! We hope to visit Milan in Hawaii again. it is too bad that our responsibilities on the mainland keep us away.

Beautiful pool and hot tub which the kids enjoyed for hours every day after the adults were worn out from exploring the island. Big enough for 8-9 people to feel too crowded, convenient to anywhere you wanted to go. And Milan is an excellent and extremely considerate and accommodating host. I'm sorry I did not post a review earlier, just thought of it while looking on XXXX for this summer's adventure stay!

I stayed at this beautiful home with nine family members for a wonderful holiday in paradise. The listing description was very accurate and the home was fantastic and the kitchen was fully equipped. The home, pool, hot tub and barbeque all very well maintained and we spent a lot of time by the pool or one of the many lanais watching the most stunning sunsets. I love to snorkel and Haunama bay was a few minutes away. The owner Milan was very gracious and informative with all our questions and even took me out snorkelling one morning! Milan stays on the property in a separate suite and it was very nice to have him close by. I have already recommended this home to a friend and would not hesitate to go back for another amazing experience.

We stayed in this house for almost two weeks in Feb, 2015 and we couldn't be happier. We were initially a bit hesitant in our housing search as the house has only recently been rented out and there weren't too many reviews, but our fears were completely unfounded.
It was our big family reunion. There were five families from the East Coast USA and Korea, a total of 16 people (10 adults, 6 kids). The house instantly impressed when we walked in to the amazing views available throughout many angles. The house is big enough that we didn't feel crammed with five separate families. It provides enough personal space, but at the same time, it has many good spots for gathering. A large dining/living room, kitchen, swimming pool, and the pavilion was perfect to create some memorable family moments.
The house is also located in a really nice residential area and is close to many touristic spots and stores and restaurants. We went to Costco (10min away) multiple times to feed the big group and enjoyed ice cream shops, bakeries, and restaurants nearby. Hanauma bay (best snorkeling spot in Oahu) is only a 5min drive away, which was super convenient since traffic can be quite bad. You can also easily go to Honolulu to go to Waikiki beach or Pearl Harbor (30-40min drive) without having to stay in a crowded hotel zone.
The owner Milan is extremely nice and friendly. He is very responsive and is readily available. He is constantly maintaining the house to keep it ready for visitors. Thanks Milan for a wonderful and memorable vacation stay at your house!

Aloha ...My Fiance and I as well as 10 family member just stayed in Milan's beautiful Palace from March 2, 2015- March 25, 2015...it is a beautiful home, if you could even consider it such as that. This amazing residence has just beautiful views, amazing accommodations, a peaceful Pool and Jacuzzi, and an amazing location only 15 -25 minutes away from downtown Honolulu. You will be amazed by the spaciousness of this mansion...and Milan the owner of the house is an amazing person to rent from, very considerate and very loving of his renters....he made our time in Oahu amazing.

The property was everything that it is advertised to be and much more. We were a party of 10 adults and 2 small children. The house was very accommodating to all of our needs and had perfect views of the island. The facilities, house and surrounds were beyond our expectations. The house itself was open, with plenty of spots for guest to hide and read a book or to gather and entertain, and had more beds than I cared to count. It was a short walk to the local shops and bus stops, and had plenty of restaurants and things to do within the area. I highly recommend this house to anyone with a medium to large group looking for a palace to stay while on holiday.

Fantastic location, incredibly beautiful panoramic views. The spirit of Hawaii and Thailand are evident everywhere, an absolutely amazing house! It`s the highest home up the side of the extinct volcano right behind which is Hanauma Bay, where the fish and turtles were incredibly friendly. It`s possible to hike over the hill from the backyard but going to Hanauma Bay by car is really a lot quicker, we could be snorkeling in just a few minutes. The solar-heated pool and jacuzzi at the house are totally private and no one could look at us as we were swimming, yet we had the amazing view of the ocean. The master bedroom up on the third floor is incredibly beautiful and has a great balcony. From the fully-equipped kitchen we could see the pool and jacuzzi and at the same time look out at the coastline all the way to Diamond Head and beyond at downtown Honolulu, and the sunsets were amazing. In the kitchen there was a really good water filter so we didn`t have to go out and buy bottled water, that was very convenient. The owners left a lot of healthy food and even delicious condiments and every kind of kitchen utensil for us to use. The owner is very health-conscious and ecologically minded, and so all the light bulbs and TV`s were the latest LED and it was great to know that the electricity and even the hot water we used came mostly from the sun! In the garden we could pick the fruit from the papaya trees and lime and other tropical trees. The owner was always ready to give helpful advice and explain how everything works. There were lots of beach chairs and umbrellas and towels and snorkeling gear for us to use. There was no city noise, in fact no noise at all, and the nights were incredibly tranquil, what a difference from noisy and hectic Waikiki! The terrific Studio Guest House where I stayed also has fantastic views of the coastline and I was amazed to learn that this Guest House was where a really famous Hawaiian-born singer stayed during his Christmas 2011 rental of this house, wow! And it was so close to lots of beautiful beaches and shopping, sometimes we just walked to the nearby shopping center. The Koko Kai Thai Palace even exceeded my expectations and I had the time of my life!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: The best snorkeling and diving beach on Oahu even for beginners?
A: Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, located just over the rim of the extinct volcano from the home!
Q: Closest and best hiking trail from the Palace?
A: The best and closest and most beautiful hiking trail from the Palace begins directly at the rear garden-entry door of the Aloha Palace Master Bedroom, you go up the dry creek bed at the top corner of the property and stay in the beautiful cry creek bed holding on to lianas occasionally to help you get over small rocky ledges and in about 5 - 10 minutes depending on your pace you will reach a point where the dry creek bed is completely overgrown and to the left is a very high rocky monolith so you climb up out of the dry creek bed to the left (or you could also go right) and continue for just another 5 minutes or so to the narrow paved service road (not used by public so nothing is likely to come along and run you over) and go left on this service road for just a couple hundred yards and then if you watch carefully you will see a footpath in the tall grass on which you weer off the service road to the right and after only about 50 yards you will arrive at the hightest point from which you can take beautiful photos of Hanauma Bay and Koko Crater and Hawaii Kai and Maunalua Bay with clear views of Diamond Head and Downtown Honolulu, and then you can continue down along the South side of the bay that forms Hanauma Bay, actually it is a continuation of hte rim of the extinct volcano from which Hanauma Bay was formed tens of thousands of years ago, and yes you will need to be careful not to approach the edges of any of the cliffs too much so you do not fall down and kill yourself so it is definitely not a hike for kids without adequate adult supervision, but you will have beautiful memories and if you are lucky enough to be renting the AlohaPalace you can repeat this hike day after day and get in really good shape. Well fitting enclosed hiking shoes or at the very lease running shoes are a must, and leather work gloves will help protect your hands from the brush some of which has thorns on it, and because it is publicly owned land the regulations regarding access to the hike may change and there are probably laws on the books that allow authorities to give you a hefty fine but what the passer-by numerous hikers told me is that no one has handed out fines for at least a year (as of September 2016 and that even if they started to do so again they are very unlikely to do so on the weekends because public servants do not work on the weekends, usually. It is a a beautiful low rocky cliff formation easily accessible at the very end of Hanapepe Road cul-de-sac (you can park your car anywhere but this very short cul-de-sac, for free of course) where there are processions of VIP-photo-tour limousines and minibuses as well as local residents watching the beautiful sunset and the dare-devil surfers who ride the incredibly fast side-deflecting waves as they bounce off the sheer rocky cliffs and unfortunately some surfers and dare-devil swimmers do not make it back ashore alive every year, but to watch this as a spectator is a mind-opening experience and you will want to keep coming back to it, perhaps with a picnic dinner to eat and sip a glass of wine or coconut water as you watch the sunset. You can drive here from the Palace in just 2 - 3 minutes including parking on any of the side-streets, or you can walk there in 5 - 10 minutes depending on how fast you walk, admiring the beautiful homes in this strictly residential neighborhood along the way. Bring a flashlight in case you get so fascinated by this place that you might stay way past sunset and need to see your way up the short but little bit tricky rocky path back to the Hanapepe street cul-de-sac. Yes you could go fishing there as well, there are always fishermen present off in the distance to the left, but please do not try to go fishing directly fromt he Hanapepe cul-de-sac entrance because you might snag one of the dare-devil surfers or swimmers and as the freak waves sweep them in seconds hundreds of feet to the right, and their getting entangled in your fishing line could cause them grave injury or even death. This is definitely not a safe swimming beach or swimming hole, only the experienced locals who know exactly how to quickly climb up the extremely slippery sheer rocky wall before the next big wave hits the cliff have a fighting chance to get back on dry land alive! If you think that this is an nexciting place you will want to lookk up in your guide-book the "Spitting Cliffs" which is a much higher-above-the-sea-level located spectacular cliff coastline just a couple of blocks
to the left and up the residential streets at the Lumahai Street cul-de-sac where you can also park free but please be sure not to block the driveways nor park at the very end - turn-around - of the cul-de-sac and you will find a welcoming sign at the public access pathway leading to it. Be absolutely sure to sear good hiking or at least running shoes and grab hold of
any of the available hand-holds along the way such as the chain link fence and chain and tree-branches so you do not slip and fall down the short but very steep trail down from Lumahai Street to the cliffs, and do not try to walk to the left to the fishermen`s peninsula because that is the very steep and treacherous part of the cliff directly above the largest "Spitting Cave" from which point the local residents and unfortunately some tourists who do not value their lives and health jump from a very considerable heigth down into the entrance of the cave into which at any moment some large wave can come along out of nowhere and swoosh them into the cave never to be seen alive again, no kidding, I have seen several such crazy divers jump within minutes of each other and fortunately these two dare-devils survived, in fact they must have been training for the olympics or some triathlon or somehting because they climbed right out and jumped in again and again and had a professional photographer down in the water taking photos of them, but many such daredevils do not survive, and the fire department paramedics trucks speed to this location and of course also to the China Wall several times each day to rescue someone or call the coroner`s office to come pick up a dare-devil who did not make it. Please do not become a statistic, your life is meaningful, beautiful, and worth living! Look up the poem DESIDERATA on Desiderata . cz and you will be inspired!
Q: What is and where is the China Wall and the Spitting Cave?
A: It is a a beautiful low rocky cliff formation easily accessible at the very end of Hanapepe Road cul-de-sac (you can park your car anywhere but this very short cul-de-sac, for free of course) where there are processions of VIP-photo-tour limousines and minibuses as well as local residents watching the beautiful sunset and the dare-devil surfers who ride the incredibly fast side-deflecting waves as they bounce off the sheer rocky cliffs and unfortunately some surfers and dare-devil swimmers do not make it back ashore alive every year, but to watch this as a spectator is a mind-opening experience and you will want to keep coming back to it, perhaps with a picnic dinner to eat and sip a glass of wine or coconut water as you watch the sunset. Yes you could go fishing there as well, there are always fishermen present off in the distance to the left,
and you do not need a license to fish in the ocean in Hawaii, but please do not try to go fishing directly from the Hanapepe cul-de-sac marked public access entrance because you might snag one of the dare-devil surfers or swimmers who regularly jump in the ocean from the China Wall and as the freak waves sweep the surfers sometimes hundreds of feet to the right in just seconds and their getting entangled in your fishing line could cause them grave injury or even death particularly since just a couple of hundred feet to the waves is, you guessed it, a very dangeroud cliff fomation sticking out of the China Wall and the surfers have to be able to maneuver quickly to the left, usually literally at the last possible moment, to avoid a direct collision with this rock formation, otherwise this could end their surfing career and their life as well. This is definitely not a safe swimming beach or swimming hole, only the experienced locals who know exactly how to quickly climb up the extremely slippery sheer rocky wall before the next big wave hits the cliff have a fighting chance to get back on dry land alive and even they can miscalculate or simply slip because the rocks are very slippery and in anycase it is very hard from the water level to outguess when the next big wave will come along that will prevent the swimmers from being able to climb out of the water up to rocky "wall" and the swimmers will instead be knocked and dislodged by thewave off the rock and pummeled along the wall and at best will be lucky if they eventually do manage to get out of the water with just some cuts and contusions! If you think that this is an nexciting place you will want to look up in your guide-book the "Spitting Cliffs" which is a much higher-above-the-sea-level located spectacular cliff coastline just a couple of blocks
to the left and up the residential streets at the Lumahai Street cul-de-sac where you can also park free but please be sure not to block the driveways nor park at the very end - turn-around - of the cul-de-sac and you will find a welcoming sign at the public access pathway leading to it. Addendum: on the theory that since China Wall and Spitting Caves are so relatively close to each other (by car or on foot), I tried to hiky from Chine Wall to the left righth along the rocky coast to Spitting Caves and I can assure anyone that it is possible and on a calm day not too difficult provided that you make sure to stay well to the left (inland) of the coastline and have good shoes and if you are lucky that no big wave comes along out of nowhere as waves tend to do unfortunately and sweeps you away into the ocean never to be seen again, so do not go along and if you want to be safe just walk to Spitting Caves along the wide and comfortable sidewalks, it is only about 4 city blocks from China Wall, and even if you hike there especially if it is fast becoming dark after a sunset do not take unnecessary chances and do not try to get back from Spitting caves to China Wall on foot along the rocky coast but instead return on the street (sidewalk) where you are perfectly safe. Do not let your kids go to either of these popular spots unless you are sure that they know how to resist peer pressure as in when their friends yell "Jump .. don`t be a chicken ..." because that is how many visitors end up jumping off the China Wall in to the ocean in the first place, and might end up trying to see if they can survive a jump from atop the Spitting Caves next, and that might end up becoming their last jump ever. Please do not become a statistic, your life is meaningful, beautiful, and worth living! Look up the poem DESIDERATA on Desiderata . cz and you will be inspired!
