“Great Place”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2016

We stayed for over a month and have only good things to say about the place. You walk in to a nice sized kitchen which opens onto an oversized studio - maybe 14 x 25 - with bay windows on the end that have a great view of the town and river - I could easily see the sandbar and if kites were up. High ceilings and well appointed with a porch off the bay windows. Bathroom is reasonably sized with plenty of storage. Kitchen is spacious and has everything you need. Location is perfect - two blocks from Oak St. We are sensitive to noise and were a little concerned about the 4 other apartments in the house, but while you could occasionally hear things, it was fine and we would have no problem staying again. The house is older and the furnishings are eclectic, it's not something out of Modern Living, but that is part of the charm. Storage is available for luggage with accessible storage for bikes, boards, and other sporting goods. Shared BBQ and patio gives some extra cooking and entertaining options. Finally, Karen keeps the place CLEAN! and will bend over backwards to make sure you have what you need and your stay is pleasant.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the kind words, You two are always welcome to come and stay for as short or as long a stay as needed. Hope to see you again next summer!

“Great short term with a nice river view.”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2016

This short-term apartment was a great find! I had a contract job in the Hood River area for the winter and needed a close by furnished apartment. I was in the apartment for 5 months, The place was ideal. Walking distance to downtown. Close to stores, restaurants, and church. In the evening, the window overlooking the river and gorge was a great place to look out and relax after a long day. On a clear day you can see the top of Mt Adams. The apartment is in a quiet, safe neighborhood and I never had any problems with the other renters in the building. Everyone was courteous. Karen is a great landlady. Friendly. Very quick to respond to any issues, and even questions about the area. After I left, she sent me a thank note and a mini SD chip I had apparently dropped under the couch.

I stayed in the 1 bedroom, front apartment, upstairs, for 6 months while visiting Hood River. I enjoyed the location, the beautiful views of the Gorge and Karen was a delight. The apartment was clean and bright with everything I needed. I would stay there again and highly recommend it.

Owner's reply: Thanks for the kind words! I was happy to have you stay & that apartment 3 met your needs.. I hope to enjoy that big footed bathtub myself this spring between guests. Come back anytime.

“Great Rental!!”

We stayed over the 4th and had a perfect experience. Great location and gracious host! We will definitely be back. Thanks so much!

Owner's reply: Glad you enjoyed your stay, you are welcome back anytime, thanks for the super 5 star rating!

“Perfect for extended stay”

Reviewed 8 Jan 2015

I stayed here for three months during the fall and it was great. I had friendly neighbors, the house was quiet and it's in the perfect location--one street away from downtown. Walking down to the river only took 10-15 minutes. The apartment was comfy and great to come home to after a long day at work. Also, Karen is very accommodating and made sure I had everything I needed. I will definitely stay here again and highly recommend it for those wanting to stay for a few months.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the kind words Pi! You were a pleasure to have stay. Come back out sometime with your beau and play here in the Gorge, "Teddy" is waiting for you. :-)

“Great place to stay in Hood RIver”

Reviewed 9 Sep 2014

My wife and I stayed with our two golden retrievers in an apartment upstairs. We had a view of Mt. Adams and the Columbia River. Karen is very accomodating and helpful and we felt like Hood River residents! Two nice parks a short walk up the hill and the doggies were happy too!

Owner's reply: Happy to have you stay again anytime! Glad the accommodations, location meet everyone's needs. Hope to see you 4 again!

“Comfy and Friendly”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2014

We stayed in the smallest apartment in the house, but it had plenty of space for two of us. Staying here was more like staying a friend's house than a rental property: casual, homey, and very laid-back. We had a great time in Hood River, and Karen was exceptionally generous, giving advice for things to do (and not do) that were well-suited to our interests and tastes. We walked away with great memories and a bottle of wonderful home-made pickles shared by a previous guest visiting from France.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind words, it was a pleasure to provide a comfy environment for you two. So glad the weather and the Hood River experience was all good. Hope to see you again.

“Wonderful place in Hood River”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2014

This was one of the best places we've stayed in Hood River. The room was adorable and Karen was awesome. We will hopefully be staying here again because we loved it!

Owner's reply: WoW - thank's for the big thumbs UP, next time stay a little longer and enjoy all of the apartment's amenities. You are welcome back anytime!

“Excellent Home base for visiting the Gorge”

Reviewed 16 May 2014

We travel with our 3 Cairn Terriers and so we require a special place to stay and a very special landlady. We were fortunate enough to have found both at Dove House. Karen was so gracious and made us feel welcome. The dogs felt very at home, the room was perfect for us and the view and convenience to town and sightseeing were all that we could have asked for. We would recommend this house/apt. for vacationers' with or without pets. We enjoyed our time and Karen was available for any special needs we had. Sharon,Robert, Bear, Ceylon and LuLu

Owner's reply: Thank you Sharon, you are very kind! You two and the "kids" were all perfect guests, hope to have you visit again.

“Great price, great location”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2013

Karen's house was perfect for a week long stay. Clean, everything worked and Karen supplied everything I needed. The location was perfect for walking to and from town (especially after a glass or two of wine!). Karen made everything easy, meeting me and showing me around.

Owner's reply: You were the perfect guest, thanks so much for the positive review, hope to see you again before the 2014 Pacific Northwest Plein Air. Loved getting a sneak peek at your work, too!

Doves Vacation Rentals has been our choice every summer for the past five years. Nothing beats the location which is walking distance to shops and restaurants or even the river. The furnished apartments provide everything we might need so that we can focus on playing in the sun. And at the end of the day we can always sit outside to barbecue a burger and chat with our neighbours.
