Family Holiday Getaway!
January 23, 2014
Talk about a private getaway! It is hard to please everyone when you have 9 family members ranging in age from 8 to 78! Yet we managed to do it! Everyone had a great time - whether it was sitting on the dock and sharing stories, or frolicking in the ocean, kayacking, fishing - you name it, this house has got it! We had a wonderful chef cook our meals for us (we HIGHLY recommend Emmie) which enabled us to enjoy each other more, and clean less! We scheduled a range of tours from the Mayan Ruins, to the Jaguar Preserve, to fishing. There was something for everyone and John was phenomenal! He went the extra mile to ensure everyone was happy. Thanks to him, we got to visit Miss Emma's "farm" (as she called it). It's spectacular! Honestly we cannot say enough. The house is stunning, the views are stunning and John is incredible!
We can't say enough about this place! Five star accommodations all the way, with John and Paragi there when and if needed as a personal concierge service, but giving you all the privacy you want at the same time. The home is very clean and comfortable, providing a perfect place for relaxing and "being off the grid". They do have internet service if you must connect, but we would recommend leaving the phones and computers off and enjoying the upper deck of the dock, the great food and drink at the local restaurants, and the friendly people. We pampered ourselves mid-week with personal massages right there at the house, and a great meal of local cuisine cooked by a personal chef that came to the house. John arranged both the massages and the chef, at very reasonable prices. He can also arrange for very unique "off the grid" experiences, like visiting Ms. Aurora's Mayan Village shop, lunch at Ms. Emma's farm, followed by a personal tour of her botanical garden and mango grove, or zip lining and hiking the waterfalls in a nearby national park. All very beautiful, and like nothing we would ever see or experience here in the upper Midwest. Must do's would include snorkeling or diving with Ms. Lucy, her husband and crew, the bakery located about 1 1/2 blocks west of the basketball courts in Hopkins, the Curve Bar and Frog's Point for food and drink, and Ms. Emma's farm for lunch. If you enjoy the grape, be sure to buy as much wine as possible at the duty free shop at the airport, as the wine is expensive in local grocery stores. Beliken beer is a great local, inexpensive beer, and the 1 Barrel Rum is also local and one of our favorites. Do not forget bug repellent, with as much Deet content as you can find. The sand flies can be a nuisance, but then again, they're pretty much every where in the Caribbean area from our experience and from what we hear from others. Thank you to John and his wife, Paragi, for an outstanding week! Steve and Jane
This house is immaculate and is in a secluded/safe area of Hopkins. It has a wonderful dock and views of the ocean! There wasn't anything that we were displeased with. John was very accommodating as well and did put up with my "promptness".... :) Sometimes I decide to do things last minute and am very spontaneous! While in Hopkins, we ate at Chef Robs (You have to try!!!), went zip lining, went to Marie Sharp Hot sauce factory, went snorkeling (Nowell is wonderful and can be found on the main road!), visited Miss Emma's orchard, and took a pontoon ride/dinner cruise along the Sittee River. We had a wonderful time and have wonderful memories of our trip!!!
My family of 9 stayed at this location for 10 days. We had an amazing time. The age span of the family was 12 to 70 and all said they had the vacation of a life time. The home was beautiful, clean, private and large enough to accommodate our whole group. We chose to have a very active vacation but you can also easily choose to have a very quiet and relaxing vacation at this location as well. We went scuba diving, fishing, hiking to waterfalls, zip-lining through juggles, had massages on our private beach and went to the Mayan Ruins. It was a great vacation and we hope to return.
