“Great Vacation Getaway!”

Bear's Den exceeded our expectations in many ways - house spacious, great yard for outdoor games and a fire, awesome man cave in the basement for three teenage boys, very comfy beds, well stocked kitchen, and great proximity to the calm beautiful northern end of Raystown Lake (very short walk to swimming and fishing)! Would highly recommend this great house to everyone, hope to be back again!!

Owner's reply: Hi Pamela, Thank you for your wonderful review, we are happy you choose to stay at our place near the Raystown Lake in Huntingdon. We hope your schedule allows time to come back! Doris Shank

“A great family retreat!”

Reviewed 14 Dec 2015

As I reflect on 2015, one of the highlights was the long weekend when my family got together and stayed at the Raystown Lake rental. It was everything we had hoped for and more. The home was well stocked with supplies we needed, immaculate, comfortable, 5 star, private - just perfect. The owner responded quickly to all of my questions, and my security deposit was returned promptly. I highly recommend for a great family get-away. Would love to go back.

Owner's reply: Hello Carol, Thank you for your comments! It's wonderful to know you and your family enjoyed the property. We look forward to hearing from you in the future. Thank you, Doris & Bill Shank

“even better than we imagined”

We rented this house for 3 days on the way home from Virginia Beach. There were 2 families (9 total). Plenty of room for all of us. The house looks brand new!! Definitely doesn't resemble a rental, and it is decorated beautifully with a bear theme and lots of attention to detail. Hardwood floors are beautiful Large open kitchen and living room. The finished cellar is awesome played a lot of ping pong and pool with the kids. There is even a card table cover you can use too. The bed in the master bedroom was so comfortable my wife and I decided we need a new mattress. There is a nice private yard and a fairly short walk to a cove on Raystown Lake that you can fish or swim from. Unfortunately we didnt get to meet the owners but Doris and Bill were very prompt on returning my emails when I had questions before we arrived. There are 3 bedrooms 21/2 baths and the kitchen is fully stocked with all the cooking needs you could imaging. They even have a Weber grill. I think the price is fantastic for all you get. If we are ever in the area again I wouldnt look anywhere else to stay.

Owner's reply: Dear James and Ann, Thank you for visiting the Raystown Lake Region and choosing to stay at the Bears Den! We appreciate your comments and were so happy to hear everything was to your liking! Thank you, Doris & Bill Shank

“Couples Getaway”

Reviewed 10 Nov 2014

We recently stayed at Bears Den with 2 other couples for a getaway weekend. This home was absolutely beautiful and spotless! The home was equipped with everything and anything that you would have in your own home. I especially loved the window above the fireplace that allowed the sun shine through out the kitchen and living room...no need for lights until the sunset. I think maybe we were the first visitors to see snow in the area our first day there. It melted right away, but was quite amusing watching our husbands build a fire in the firepit as the snow pelted down. Bears Den is definately a place where you can relax in any part of the home. While we didn't observe any live wildlife, the home is filled with lovely décor that gives you the rustic feeling true to the name Bears Den. Bill and Doris are wonderful to work with and very helpful with anything you need to know about their home and the area itself. We are already planning on a return in the spring or summer before the marina closes for the season to enjoyed the use of the lake. All in all, even though it was off season, the brisk mountain air and comforts of home made it a fabulous stay! We played a lot of poker and enjoyed lots of country music in the evenings and can not wait to visit Bears Den again. Thank you Bill and Doris, everything was above and beyond our expectations!

“Family Lovin' at the Bears Den”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2014

After researching the area rentals for 5 hours I finally settled on the Bears Den ... so glad I did. We were a group of 8 (youngsters and oldsters) ... the "cabin" (much more like a home) was awesome. We had more than enough room with 3 bedrooms, a large living room, large and well equipped kitchen, ample bathrooms, very large rec room/tv room on the ground floor, fire pit in the backyard. I sipped many a cuppa of coffee in the screened-in porch. Lovely to sit there very early in the morning with that coffee and listen to the birds, watch for the sky to lighten, look for mountain critters, and just mellow out. Will definitely rent again next fall, but this time for longer than a weekend. It was so hard to leave that place. None of us wanted to go back to the daily grind after enjoying our time there. Also, there is much to do in the area. And to that end there are loads of brochures, maps, area attractions, restaurants, etc to browse through. In addition ... the owners of the cabin were wonderful to us. Thank you, D. You're a doll!

We had the best vacation in years. So much relaxing and food. My kids had a blast swimming, fishing, tubing, skiing,. Absolutely love the screened in porch. Thank you for sharing your home with us. My parents were so happy for the extra family time. Hopefully we will be back soon!

Your cabin is so cute and all I can say, you call it a cabin but it's not like any cabin we've ever been in. "So much better". We loved everything about the cabin. Well supplied, beautiful decorations and very clean. We had a wonderful time and want to say thank you for sharing your place.

Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home. It is adorable and tastefully decorated! We especially enjoyed the screened in porch. The Bears Den is very clean & comfortable and has everything a vacationer could want or need. We will most definitely recommend it to anyone who wishes to visit Raystown.

There has never been a place we stayed that felt like home but this cabin is the exception. It is home away from home. We love coming here each year and making new memories. This year we spent a full week verses a long weekend. We spent time up in State College/Penns Cave and a day hiking at Trough Creek. We spent a lot of time down at the lake at the end of the road. The Shanks are wonderful people and always so friendly and helpful. We couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. Thanks for another wonderful visit!
