Description from owner

Looking for a peaceful or romantic getaway for two? A honeymoon? An anniversary? Here is the perfect place...

This beautifully landscaped waterfront home is located on the shore of Lake Erie between the cities of Huron and Vermilion. Our home sits atop a grassy hillside that slopes to our private and secluded 200 foot wide sandy beach. You can swim in the warm shallow waters, or just wade out hundreds of feet on the sandy lake bottom. Two kayaks are available for your use. The sunsets are awesome, and on a clear night the stars are clear and bright. A small beach fire is permitted at night and the firewood is provided.

Just a few feet above the private beach, and tucked into the hillside, is a cozy shade deck surrounded by trees. This beach deck has a round table and 5 chairs. There is a large sun deck higher up in the middle of the professionally landscaped hillside. The sundeck has a 10 x 16 foot awning that converts this middle deck into a large shade deck if desired. 2 Bistro tables and 4 high chairs and a 2-burner grill make this middle deck a great outdoor dining area overlooking the beach and lake.

There are three additional sitting areas, two are on top of the hillside, and one is on the west end of the landscaped hillside, about 6 feet above the beach. Chairs or benches are on the decks and sitting areas. Everyday, you will likely see a wide variety of birdlife, including Blue Herons, Bald Eagles, White Egrets, gulls, geese, ducks and Turkey Buzzards. A century old lilac tree (bush) holds many feeders which attract colorful songbirds. Bring your binoculars!

The rental unit of our home is an attached "in-law" suite that is on the east side of the main house with 2 private entrances: a kitchen door on the back deck and sliding glass doors on the front deck. It has a loft bedroom with a queen bed facing the lake and beach. The lower level has a full bath, full kitchen, dining area with lake views, sunken living room with a leather couch, separate full-size sleeper sofa, rocking chair, cable flat screen TV, Blueray DVD player, Sony Stereo, WIFI internet and piano. There are 2 decks directly attached to the rental unit. The front deck faces the lake and has a well maintained hot tub for your enjoyment. The back deck is a 2-level deck that has a view of the lake, table with 6 chairs and umbrella, deck furniture, a small electric grill, and a large Weber grill. The back deck is shaded by three tri-color beach trees, a magnolia tree, and a variety of colorful roses, perennials, and annuals.

This guest suite unit is best suited for a couple since there is only 1 queen bed in the loft. However, one or two children could be accommodated on the sleeper sofa or leather couch.

No smoking or pets are allowed. However, we do have cats on our side that are friendly to guests.

The main house dates back to 1820 and was totally restored and remodeled in 1982 by the current owners. The guest suite addition was completed in 1994. The front of the house faces the lake due to a main east-west road between the house and the shore that washed away in the 1800s. Lt. Robert E. Lee visited the house in 1835 when he was a 28 year old engineer for the Army.

Should you like to schedule a professional massage during your stay, Lucy is an Ohio medical and nationally licensed massage therapist and would be happy to arrange a therapy appointment for relaxation or therapeutic purposes.

“Sunsets and Peace”

Our stay at this lakefront home was everything we hoped it could be. From the moment we entered the home my face lit up in smiles realizing that we were in a magical spot with lakefront views and access and in a very well maintained home with lots of special touches. The bed faces the lake and sounds of the waves can be heard through the open windows. There are several places to hang along the landscaped lake front to appreciate the view. the location is in between lakefront towns so if you are want to go out for dinner, there are different things to choose from. The owners were great to work with and we are looking forward to returning.

“Relaxing, quiet, private ... perfect.”

We loved our time at the Bunsey lakefront home. The apartment attached to their historic home is a great space, very open and light filled, and with double doors opening to the lake. The apartment is beautifully furnished and comfortable. The kitchen is very well stocked with appliances, gadgets, and spices, and the Bunseys left muffins, cheese, crackers, and beverages for our arrival. Also fresh flowers. The bathroom was stocked with shampoo, soap, laundry detergent. One of my concerns when looking for a rental was that lake houses can be damp, but this is not at all the case with this apartment. The Bunseys were very welcoming and friendly and happy to answer questions any time. We were looking for a very quiet week of relaxation and this was the perfect spot. The house shares a driveway with some apartments, but it was very quiet. There are multiple (5 or 6?) decks available for use and loungers and chairs on the beach. The beach was also quiet and private. We once shared it with a couple of fishermen fishing from the stone jetty at the end, but otherwise felt like it was all ours. Really can't say enough good things about our experience. If we are ever in this part of the world again, we will definitely try to book here again.

“"Beachin"”

Lucy & Bob went above and beyond with the extra special things they did for our stay. I have never rented a lake house where I was welcomed by home baked muffins and also a bottle of wine! There were so many other thoughtful things they did to make us feel right at home. The convenience of having a well-stocked kitchen was yet another way of doing things very different than other rentals. Every area of the home was spacious, the kitchen has eat-in space. Lots of cabinets and every appliance you could ever need. The living room has a wide variety of books and board games, too! I had a company event at Cedar Point and a co-worker and I decided to stay up in the area instead of the usual long drive home. We are so glad we did! The lake house's location is only a short drive over to Cedar Point. We were fortunate to enjoy June's long sunny days and having our own private beach was just perfect! You will enjoy the breathtaking views as the sunsets are definitely a photo opp! Yes, there are beautiful views from the backyard out to the lake; however, you will not get over the jaw-dropping view from loft bedroom upstairs! I usually listen to nature stations to fall asleep, but when you are on the waterfront at this lake house, you have the sound of the lake's waves! So peaceful. My co-worker could not stay the entire time, therefore, my husband joined me for the last night. He can be an EXTREMELY tough critic! He agreed that I made an excellent choice for a lake getaway. We enjoyed reading and sunning at the beach every single day. We also enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub. It was fun to also check out the local wineries, Paper Moon and Quarry Hill which were very near our lake house. We had dinner at the nearby Angry Bull Restaurant. While there was an issue with my prime rib dinner, I appreciated that our server talked to the chef and there was no issue with making it right. My husband enjoys coming up north for the excellent Walleye as having it in Columbus, just isn't the same. We all agreed that a return trip is needed and we would definitely refer Bob and Lucy's lake house unit to our family, friends and co-workers. Thank you Bob and Lucy, you are among the most hospitable hosts we have ever rented from in our years of vacations. Thank you for helping us have a wonderful summer of 2016 memory staying at your home !

“A Sabbath For Our Souls”

If you need a really deep rest and refreshing, this place is God appointed! We found order and provision for every need, privacy, cleanliness and beauty. The accomodations were more than adequate and the hospitality was warm and friendly. The hot tub, outdoor seating, and several private perches for viewing Lake Erie and gorgeous sunsets were great for unwinding and reconnecting. We were pleasantly surprised and would definitely return another time. Thanks Bob and Lucy, for sharing your Treasure with us. We were so blessed.

“Awesome Family Vacation”

Reviewed 19 May 2015

My family of four loved every aspect of our trip. It was easy to work with the owners, Bob and Lucy, from beginning to end. The suite is cozy, clean, comfortable, and is situated in a beautifully landscaped yard that has it's own private beach. We stayed 4 nights, and loved every minute of it. We enjoyed collecting seashells, playing the piano, sitting in the hot tub, had a bonfire on the beach ( wood gathered by the owners), played boardgame, played catch in the large yard, read interesting books in their library, painted our nails, and enjoyed the scenery! That was just at the suite. We traveled 20 minutes to Sandusky for a day of fun at Cedar Point, and about a hour to Cleveland another day. We visited the rock n roll hall of fame and went to a baseball game at progressive field. We had plenty to do, all at reasonable rates. Bob and Lucy were very helpful, providing my son with first aid when he cut his finger on a rock. They also were very considerate if our privacy. My kids, 8 and 10, loved staying in the suite. In fact, my son asked me when we were coming back.

“A Perfect Getaway”

Our hosts were gracious and accommodating. The location was a pleasant drive from our home and within a short drive to many interesting things. The unit itself was perfect for two! The kitchen was well equipped and easy to cook in and the treats left by our hosts were appreciated. We had two out of three outstanding sunsets and the private beach was perfect. We plan to make a return trip.

“Sweet Suite on the Lake”

Had a fab-tastic and super-relaxing holiday in the suite on the lake. Perfect place to re-charge your batteries, take a step back and then just breathe, watch and listen. We will return... Dave & Tina (Hertfordshire, UK)

“stress-free get-away”

My husband & I spent a week up at Bob & Lucy's and we wish it could have been longer! Bob & Lucy are fantastic, everything you need at the house has been provided. The wine, cheese & crackers, and the muffins are another added treat! There is alot to do in the area from just relaxing at the house and enjoying the views, reading a book on the beach, soaking in the hot tub to visiting winery's, great restaurants, small towns,put-in-bay, to a cute Tiki Bar walking distance from the house. Hopefully we will be back for another visit! Thank You to both Bob & Lucy for making our vacation a 5-star stay!!!

“UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL!”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2013

I recently had the opportunity to spend two nights at Lucy and Bob's place (a repeat performance from last year!) This time I brought my husband with me, which was a different experience. My favorite "activity" is to be outside & and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, the peace and calm of listening to the wind and the waves. Reading, walking, just sitting outside in this lovely place is incredibly soothing. My husband, while also enjoying the out-of-doors, enjoys riding around and seeing the sights. This year we got to do both! Early morning walks on the beach, a leisurely breakfast of coffee and delicious blueberry and peach muffins, and then visits to the local orchards/farm markets, wineries, landscaping companies and touring the quaint town of Vermilion. Then off to some lovely restaurants for dinner and early to bed, falling asleep with the sound of lapping waves. However, I did manage to stay up to watch a funny movie (DVD provided) after a mini crash course for the technically challenged from Bob! The home and surroundings are 5 stars (that is 5 out of 5) - the owners are 10! We highly recommend this Huron Vacation Home as a place for R & R and/or as a starting point for roaming around the countryside.
