Description from owner

Our spacious, sunny, newly-updated, centrally air-conditioned 5 Br Cape and air- conditioned 1 Br cottage are located on a small cove of Lewis Bay and face south. Water views can be seen from both upstairs and downstairs in the main house and the cottage is situated at water's edge with its attendant dock and water views/access. There are fireplaces in the living room and in the upstairs parlor with water view located between the two master bedrooms, although they aren't working yet. There is also a fireplace in the cottage not working yet.

The compound is ideal for a family reunion or a group of friends. We are close enough to downtown so that guests can be independent of each other; they don't need a car to find some fun. The pretty stone steps that lead down to the cottage are outfitted with timed lights for a beautiful evening stroll down to the water. The cottage works for a couple with one child or a friend.

We are within walking distance of downtown Hyannis, the Steamship Authority and the Hyline with ferry services to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, also walking distance to the bus and train station.

We have installed new wiring, plumbing and air conditioning along with new windows in the main house. The cottage also has new air-conditioning. The new windows keep the main house quiet even on the rowdiest summer nights. Wonderful, old paneled doors and brass hardware are original throughout the house.

The cottage at water's edge is newly renovated and furnished to accommodate 3 people. The house has 5 bedrooms and sleeps 9 or 10.

In the main house, there are plenty of generous windows in every room on which white cloth blackout shades are installed for privacy and darkness. Three bedrooms are featured downstairs, one with twin beds and a private bath with shower/bath combo, another with a queen-sized bed and water view, the 3rd with a double-sized bed sharing the new, full bath which has a grab bar and built-in seat in the shower to provide safety for the elderly. There is also a half bath off of the living room. The dining area in the great room which looks out to the water view, accommodates 8 diners and has 4 tall chairs at the kitchen island for extra guests. The kitchen, which also has a water view, is newly-expanded and open with granite counters and all new appliances including a wine fridge in a generous great room with paneled fireplace.

A curving staircase leads to the upstairs parlor with water view and paneled fireplace. An armoire containing a TV and DVD player can be found there. The parlor is flanked by two large master suites with king beds, one with a shared full bath and one with a new half bath and a view of the water where sports fishing boats dock in the harbor. From there you can watch the Steamship ferries arrive or depart through the cut as they venture out to, or back from, Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard.

There is a large basement in the main house in which the laundry is located and there are clothes lines there to hang fine hand-washing and wet towels.

From the back, covered porch, you look out over the large, terraced and landscaped back yard out to the inner and outer Hyannis harbor (Lewis Bay) and you can make your way down the wonderful, old, stone steps to the cottage, water and your dock. The private dock, 8 ft deep at the end float at high tide and 16 ft-long, can support a 25 ft sailboat and/or a 25 ft motor boat.

Despite being close to all the exciting pleasures of downtown Hyannis, the home has a private, hidden-garden atmosphere with a huge old Buckeye tree out front. We have preserved the wonderful, old, deco elements and enhanced our home with more deco design features, but also added air conditioning and new windows which make our home quiet and cool during the happy days and nights of the summer season.

Decorated with a combination of antique furniture and an eclectic mix of family and antique artwork, and newer, comfortable furnishings, including new beds, the house will take you back to the genteel, old days of Cape Cod. But it also features new plumbing, new wiring, a new kitchen, new mullioned windows and fresh paint. There is a 2 car garage and room for 4 cars in the driveway. You can sit out on the covered porch and look out at the harbor view, barbecue on the grill and enjoy your private yard. We love to hear the charming old boat whistles during the day, but are glad that they are mercifully silent at bedtime.

The sweet one bedroom cottage at water's edge is a generous delight with a great room that includes a living room with fireplace, original kitchen and looks out to Lewis Bay and your dock. There is new bathroom with tiled European shower off of the bedroom. There is a twin bed in the living room for a child or adult and a queen sized bed in the bedroom. The cottage is completed and available to rent with the main house as a compound during the late spring and summer weeks and on into the rest of the year.

Beds: 2 King Beds, 2 Queen Beds, 1 Double Bed, 3 Twin Beds

About the area

Nestled in a private, old grove of evergreens, our home is located between the Dockside restaurant and the Anchor In overlooking Lewis Bay Harbor. Despite being walking distance from the hospital and downtown, where shops and restaurants abound, the large, private backyard is well hidden from view like a secret garden. From the water you can see our little cottage down on the water, but the main house is well obscured by trees except for the roof. The Anchor In's windows are bubble glass hallways, so privacy is ensured. The Steamship Authority is 2 doors away for easy access to Nantucket. The Hyline is also within walking distance of the house for trips to the islands or fishing and local charters offer sailing expeditions. There is a public boat ramp within easy access, about 500 ft, off of our dock for launching or pulling your boat or kayak. A sweet, little, nautical museum is just a few doors down and we are about a quarter of a mile from the park where little mini galleries are placed in the summer for local artists to display their work. Other outdoor festivals and local events take place at the park throughout the summer months. Boats to charter, or on which to fish or sail, line the nearby docks close to the Hyline. Close to downtown Hyannis: restaurants, shops, bus and train station, library, post office, fishing and boating charters Dockside, Tugboats, Embargo, Naked Oyster

“Gracious Living”

Reviewed 30 Dec 2015

The house is very well appointed, large and spacious. The open plan kitchen and dining--living room makes meal time fun. Brand new appliances including a wine cooler ads a luxurious feel to the dining experience. Back yard large and roomy, cottage not finished when we visited. Grand view of the harbor, easy access to the water beyond, great sunset enjoyed from dock side. Bedrooms large, beautiful new bathrooms. Enjoy a grilled steak on the gas grill under the porch roof in back. Secluded and warm... Close to restaurants and shopping. A great beach is within a 15 minute drive.
