About the area

Hideaway Hollow is settled into a very rural community in the heart of Bedford County. While staying with us at the farm, plan to do some bird watching and exploring the 75 acres surrounding our homes. Hike the woods, cross the open fields and climb the hillsides for a view that spans more than 25 miles. The sunsets are beautiful and are best viewed from the hill top behind the house where the view spans more than 25 miles. And with all the wide open space, its easy to see the stars at night. No tall buildings to hide the night sky. Cook outs abound here. We have state park style charcoal grills at each of our homes and a fire pit with a supply of wood for your late night cooking pleasure, even if its just a s'more you are hoping for, and each home has its own outdoor hot tub so there's no need to share. Enjoy chasing fireflies in summer; hiking in the woods or cross-country skiing right out the backdoor onto rolling meadows; watching stars dance in the vast night sky; making new friends...you can do all of these here. There is great trout fishing just five minutes from Hideaway Hollow in Bob's Creek, and Blue Knob State Park is only 10 minutes away where the swimming is as refreshing in cold mountain water as it could be. The Covered Bridge Tour begins just 5 minutes away and all around are great routes for bicycling and walking. We have an 18 hole golf course in Imler and another at Blue Knob. For indoor fun, there is bowling, movies, roller skating, antiquing, live theater, wine tasting, and Old Bedford Village. Blue Knob All Season's Resort is the place that serious skiers go and claims its fame as the highest ski-able mountain in Pennsylvania. Mountain biking is very popular at Blue Knob and hosts some of the routes for the Tour DeToona cycling race every year. Don't forget our Fall Foliage Festival the first two weekends in October which draws crowds of more than 30,000 people to Bedford every year. No matter what the season, we have something for everyone. Come and experience relaxation in any way that you want! Hiking in the fields and woods Relaxing on the porch Exploring Historic Bedford is minutes away with small lunch spots along Pitt Street and the excellent Jean Bonet Tavern along Route 30 just west of Bedford. North of the cabin near Altoona, are many chain restaurants to pick and choose from. Closest though, is the Ivy Stone Restaurant located in Osterburg with a family style theme and servers dressed in colonial attire. A must do while in the area.

Getting around

“First time at Hideaway Hollow and loved it!”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2016

The setting was beautiful and quiet. We ended up staying at the farmhouse, although originally we had wanted the cabin. But this turned out to be to our delight because the view from the farmhouse was so very lovely, overlooking the valley. Everything was very clean and functional. The only problem we ran into was we had brought some DVDs to watch and there was no DVD player at that time. We enjoyed the state parks in the area, the beautiful farmlands in the area, the flight 93 memorial just 30 minutes away, and just the QUIET next to the corn fields. We want to return next fall for sure!

Owner's reply: I am so sorry about the DVD player. A new one is on its way and will be there for your next stay! And QUIET is the word for our farm. What a great location to disconnect!

“Weekend getaway”

Reviewed 6 Apr 2015

We spent the weekend in the Farm House at Hideaway Hollow, which is just up the lane from the cabin. The place was great, it was clean, spacious, and the hot tub was very relaxing. We also got to take a look at the cabin before we left and it looked really nice. We hope to visit again sometime in the future and would be happy to stay in either location.

Owner's reply: We love return guests. That means that you truly had a memorable weekend. Our farmhouse, #74752 is so cozy that we feel equally confident in offering it to guests who did not receive their first choice at the cabin. Most of our farmhouse guests are surprised at the attention to the details we complete to make sure that each stay at either home is a happy experience!

Beautiful cabin, clean and quiet.Owners left treats for my dog and brought gift card for local food store.Highly recommend it to my friends.

Owner's reply: Kathy, We are glad that you enjoyed your visit. Fisher's Country Store is one of our favorite spots and our guests really enjoy the variety of bulk foods and the magnificent deli. I have been known to lose myself among the shelves on more than one occasion. Please come and visit us again at Hideaway Hollow.

“sweet escape”

This was our third stay at hideawayhollow so needless to say we love it there. This was however our first summer stay. Winters there are absolutely beautiful especially if you have the pleasure of snow. Summer is absolutely beautiful also just in a different way. The views are incredible. We enjoyed seeing the wildlife sitting and watching the birds, deer, rabbits, and the adorable chimp monks. It's a very quiet, relaxing place. We are never ready to leave but when we do we feel refreshed and revived. A special thank you to Patty and Wayne for opening their property for people to relax, enjoy, and take in the simple pleasures that we tend to over look in our busy lives. Just throwing this in , the hot tub is an extra relaxing bonus. We are hoping to visit again this winter...see you then

Owner's reply: Having return guests is like welcoming back old friends. We love having your little family with us and anticipate each visit. The cabin is beautiful in any season and although we have been tempted to add additional amenities we have held back knowing that we want to achieve the perfect location to step away from the business of everyday life. The cabin has everything you need for your stay but we do tend to keep it very simple in order to express our preference for the simple life.

Our stay here was great. It's wonderful for just 2 people and roomy enough for a few more. The surrounding area was very beautiful. Everything was perfect

“Excellent for the price, very nice owners”

If you are looking for a no frills, laid back, friendly location that gives you easy access to Blue Knob for skiing, this is a great place. Patty has been very attentive and accommodating, and made everything easy. The house is an old farmhouse, don't expect luxury, but you're not paying a luxury price either. Be aware that there is only one shower, and three of the bedrooms are walk-through (you walk from one into the next, without separate entrances), so this is best for a group who are quite comfortable with each other. The setting is quite pretty and the drive to Blue Knob is 15 minutes and change. All the basics are there and it seemed that Patty and Wayne would always be available should an emergency occur, including getting stuck on the road in bad weather (thankfully it wasn't needed). Would repeat any time our group is looking for an easy escape and we don't want to shell out the premium for slope-side or luxury accommodations.

Owner's reply: Unique to this area are farmhouses with a walk through bedroom layout. The home dates to 1830 with considerable upgrades such as a second bathroom upstairs with a toilet and sink. We have also closed off one of the doorways to permit privacy in 2 of the 4 bedrooms. The other two bedrooms would be great for young children or for families/ groups who don't mind a bit more familiarity. Wayne and I are close by and are available to help out in the event of an emergency.

We were only looking for a place to stay while we visit family in the area. We found a beautiful hideaway. Our stay in the cabin was a wonderful experience. The cabin is new and perfectly furnished. Our family stayed with us overnight. The four of us, and our dog lulu; played, cooked, entertained like we were home. We will be scheduling our next trip around the cabins availability. And we will be staying more than a couple nights!

Owner's reply: Andy, So glad you enjoyed your stay and Lulu is a gem. Although it is secluded, the cabin offers another option to guests looking for a place to stay while visiting family in the area. We are happy you found us!

My cousin and I just rented the cabin for the weekend for a birthday(mine)/weekend getaway which we both desperately needed!! Her being a full time student as well as having a full time job and internship, and myself workin full time and being a fiancé and mommy, we dedfiitely needed a nice, quiet weekend to just relax and do whatever we wanted! This cabin was all that and more! It super exceeded all of our expectations!! We were so comfortable and felt right at home! The hot tub and woodstove were the extra touches to just be able to sit back and enjoy the quiet! We went down into town and visited historical Bedford and even went on a self tour of the Covered Bridges of PA!(which Wayne and Patty left a notebook with several places to eat, directions how to get to immediate locations and lots of history about their cabin, farmhouse and life) It was just all around the most perfect weekend! We are so grateful to have found this place and To Wayne and Patty for allowing us to stay! I recommend this cabin to ANYONE! Wayne and Patty were also so nice and thoughtful! When we arrived Friday night, they had left lights on for us and the woodstove had a beautiful fire already going! We were completely speechless when we walked in! The pictures do this cabin no justice, it's a must see in person to truly understand how beautiful, peaceful and serene it is!!! I really cannot thank Wayne and Patty enough!! =)) It was a beautiful way to celebrate my birthday! I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to stay!!

Owner's reply: Having guests in our homes allows us the opportunity to share a little of what we cherish. We welcome you to visit us again. When you come as guests, you leave as our friends. Patty and Wayne

Owner Supplied Testimonials

Hideaway Hollow has been a dream that belongs to both Wayne and myself. Raised on the property, I grew up appreciating the simpler life we live here. Surrounded by acres of open fields and woodland, it was where I hiked with my collie as a child and today, I walk my retriever on these same 75 acres. We fondly welcome our children home to enjoy the land with us, to let their children and there pets be part of this spacious, beautiful landscape that has lovingly been in our family for 3 generations.Wayne sees the farm from a New Englander's eyes and holds a different appreciation for it than I do. Living here since I was 10 years old, it is simply home, full of loving memories and for Wayne, he loves the view, the surrounding mountains and the absolute peace that he never knew living in the center of Massachusetts. Hideaway Hollow is where we call home and it is this treasure we are excited to share with you, our guests.
