Description from owner

"Old Florida" is the term used to describe a slow paced, no high rise, community approach to natural resources. Our 8 unit building is a fine example of 50's FL, that retains it convenience and charm along with comfortable up dates.Walk out the door onto the beach. You will not have to deal with elevators and parking garages. You may meet your neighbors and maybe make new friends or enjoy the solitude of a private spot.

On May 24, 2017, the property common and limited common areas became non-smoking.

Indian Rocks Beach is close to air ports Clearwater/St Pete and Tampa International, theme parks, flea markets, museums, antique stores, golf courses, deep sea fishing, boat rentals, ski do rentals and bicycle rentals. There are tennis courts and a skate park in the town.

The trolley will take you from Clearwater Beach to St Pete's Beach and all towns between. You may get on and off all day to visit John's Pass, the bird sanctuary, shopping and restaurants. During season you may transfer and go as far as Tarpon Springs with a stop in Dunedin and Palm Harbor.

About the area

Sand at door. My one bedroom condo is ground level on the sand in Indian Rocks Beach. IRB is located on the 20 mile long barrier island that runs Tampa airport and 17 miles from the Clearwater/St. Pete airport. The small barrier island community of Indian Rocks Beach is close, enough to the metropolitan centers of Tampa and Clearwater to serve as a "base of operations" for your Florida vacation experience, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city to provide a unique, rural allure. Guests of "Shack on the Sand" in Indian Rocks Beach are privy to beautiful beaches, outstanding restaurants, and breathtaking scenery. The white, sandy beaches are great places to swim, surf, and snorkel, while shoppers and diners will not be disappointed by the offerings of Indian Rocks Beach. A brief drive away from Indian Rocks Beach brings tourists to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Clearwater Beach, and Tampa International Airport. Slightly further away, guests of Indian Rocks Beach vacation cabins and homes can visit Disney World, Sea World, or the Epcot Center. There are arts and crafts gatherings that this town hosts annually, and there are nearly two dozen20golf courses in the surrounding area. Caladesi Island State Park and Honeymoon Island State Park are about fifteen minutes away from Indian Rocks Beach, and several museums are located in nearby St. Petersburg and Tampa.

Getting around

From I-275 take the Indian Rocks Beach exit, state road 688, follow it to the end at Gulf Blvd, about 12 miles, turn left at the light and 410 Gulf Blvd is the second driveway on the right. This is a very quick turn and the parking lot is gravel There is a trolley that runs the length of the island from .Passa Grille and St Pete Beach to Clearwater Beach. You may pay one price and get on and off all day. There are county bus stops and you may travel the county on a bus. There is a rack on the front for bicycles. You may take a shuttle to or from either airport PIE or TPA. There are at least seven restaurants within walking distance. If all you want is a beach vacation you can do it without a car.

Getting here

From I-275 take the Indian Rocks Beach exit, (state hwy 688, Ulmerton rd) Follow 688 to the end at Gulf Blvd. about 15 miles. Turn left onto Gulf Blvd at the light. 410 Gulf Blvd is the second driveway on the right. The parking lot is gravel. From St Pete airport take East Bay/West Bay to Gulf Blvd about 14 miles, turn left onto Gulf Blvd and drive S till you get to the light at the intersection of Gulf Blvd and hwy 688 about 5 miles, 410 Gulf is the second driveway past the light.

Interaction with guest

I take the reservations and collect the rent. I live 3 miles away and love the"Shack on the Sand" I have owned it since 1992 and everything doors, floors, windows, closets, cupboards and bath have been changed over the years .I am on the 4th round of appliances and 3rd round of air conditioners. I can't count the number of furniture changes. I am truly a by-owner rental. Guests are encouraged to go through every cupboard and drawer. If they can't find what they are looking for call me I might know where it is or have it at my house. The keys will be waiting on the premises.

“An absolute must.”

Reviewed 15 Sep 2016

Ann is wonderful. The place is wonderful. The other reviews that states she has thought of everything are spot on. Bring yourself, your clothes, and a relaxed heart and attitude. Visit Johns pass and Crabby Bills and Slyce pizza for sure. Also take a short ride out and over sunshine skyline bridge. Fab! It's quiet, old school, and perfect. Exactly what we needed and wanted.

Owner's reply: Dear Brooke, Thank you so much for your kind words. I love the terms "Old School" , "Relaxed Heart", and "Spot On" It is a joy to have a guest that "Gets It" and loves the "Shack" as much as I do. The "Shack on the Sand" is a destination not a stop over. Ann

“Perfect Gem in a Perfect Location”

Reviewed 23 Oct 2014

So happy I found this place. The minute I walked in the door, it felt like home. Everything was there, didn't need a single thing.Location is fantastic, right across the street is Crabby Bills and right beyond that is P.J's. Beach is absolutely gorgeous. I would highly recommend this place. Owner was very sweet and accommodating. We will definitely be booking for next year, cannot wait.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your kind words. I will return the favor by telling you that you were wonderful guests and I look forward to seeing you again. Don't forget to remind me of your returning guest discount. My spring and fall guests are becoming like extended family that I see briefly at a reunion once a year. Ann

“Indian Rocks Beach is the best for you because----”

Reviewed 3 Mar 2014

Our condo was furnished with wonderful décor, great couches, beds and very clean! We look forward to returning next year for two weeks!! Fluffy thick towels awaited us in the bathroom, large bar of soap in the shower, full size accessories, all the best!! Thank you Paula for making this feel like a little bit of heaven. The beach awaited us each day with plenty of sealife to enjoy. And,----oh to walk everywhere to eat at the wonderful restaurants, the best doughnut shoppe around, The Lighthouse, and even a CVS a block away. The best ice cream across the street along with The Welcome Center. Then catch the trolley to John's Pass and head to Shell Island as you buy your tickets on the lower level at John's Pass. Everyone deserves to enjoy John's Pass. It is a tourist's dream. Indian Rocks Beach area is just the best-----we have been going there for 36 years!!

Owner's reply: You may have the wrong unit. The "Shack on the Sand" # 3 is owned by Ann and is direct beach front. I think that the direct beach location would rate 5 stars.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

I have been to this condo three times. It is a cozy, comfortable place that suits my needs, exactly. I was able
to find the peace and quiet I needed. No stress, no demands. I also liked very much, the fact that I felt safe
there. I could even leave the patio doors open, after dark, without any worries. I love finding the new things
that Ann puts in every year. She changes the decor, so I always know there will be something exciting
awaiting me. The trolley stops outside the door (street side), so shopping is made extremely easy, if you can
pull yourself away from the beach. I highly recommend the Shack on the Sand.
