1 hr from ABQ Sunport; 1-1/2 hrs to Santa Fe; 40 minutes NW from Placitas/Bernalillo exit on north I-25 onto Hwy 550 West to Hwy 4 North in San Ysidro; 3 miles NE of Jemez (pronounced Haymehs)Pueblo Visitor Center, 1-1/4 miles from the Jemez & Guadalupe Rivers - great trout fishing!

At the sleepy Spanish village of San Ysidro, a right turn north is Hwy 4 which begins the Jemez Mountain Trail, a National Scenic Byway. Almost two miles past the Jemez Pueblo Walatowa Visitor Center, following the Jemez River & just past where it conjoins with the Rio Guadalupe one climbs east to an altitude of 6500 ft and finds the Jemez Springs Retreat in a gorgeous red rock area of steep mountain cliffs & canyons. Back on Hwy 4, it is only 7 miles to the Village of Jemez Springs Historic Mineral Bath House, Giggling Springs Outdoor Mineral Hot Pools, cafes, galleries, & ancient Guisewa Mission ruins & museum. It's 12 mi. north to natural Hot Springs in the cool pines; 28 miles to Fenton Lake State Park; 45 miles to the Valles Caldera Natl. Preserve,another 10 miles to Bandelier Natl. Park, & a few more miles from there to historic Los Alamos. The Jemez is a hidden paradise in New Mexico!
