Description of the Jonesport vacation home rental
A little slice of old America, Jonesport is a working fishing village on the northern coast of Downeast Maine.
This is a historic, very well cared for and fully restored bungalow, one block from the ocean.
The home features original birch wood floors, artistic pressed tin walls and ceilings. Only three families including the current owner took residence here since the Oppenshaw family built it in the late 1800's. Renovations took place in the 1990 to update electric, plumbing, windows, cedar shingles, roof, septic system, furnace, and new mudroom with storage. Restored to its original character and charm, the 1100 square foot living space includes two bedrooms, full basement with a washer and dryer, large open kitchen, living room and a bathroom with a claw-foot tub, enclosed shower and marble sink. The bungalow sits on a maintained 1/3-acre lawn with plenty of room to spread out, have a BBQ, light a fire pit and enjoy the stars at night.
Experience true New England charm in Downeast Maine this summer!
(House is equipped with Satelite TV and wifi internet)

Quiet Bungalow

This was a perfect house to rent for our family. Some good places to hike within close proximity to the house & only a short beautiful drive took us up to Lubec for a day of exploring. Everything in the house is comfortable & very relaxing.

Jonesport is for the self-entertaining among us. It's also for those who want to spend some time on the other side of the technological divide. Jonesport is a working fishing community - the real kind, not the Disney interpretation. There is no place to have a sit-down dinner in town, no place to get a drink. There are no vacation amenities and no place for the kids to go hang out. No historic districts with walking tours, in fact you are as likely to encounter a 70's remodel as you are a classic New England farmhouse. There are a thousand other places to go if you are looking for quaint. That's the beauty of this place. There is nothing behind the curtain. There is no curtain. You hear the throbbing engines of the lobster boats on the reach early in the morning. The activity on the wharves centers around getting bait prepared, offloading the lobsters and taking on supplies. Seaweed harvesting skiffs leave on the rising tide. Clam and worm diggers labor in the flats at ebb. People working with the sea to create a life and a community. A warm community. This is one of those New England towns where everybody, walking or driving, waves. It grows on you. You are free to wander, free to do what it is you do. There are musical performances, art shows at the Library if you like but it's not a place to go to be distracted, rather a place to go to reconnect, re-center, recalibrate. It might just be the easiest place to make friends. The Bungalow was perfect for what I needed. It was clean, comfortable and everything worked. Charming enough and well kept, not some decorated theme cottage. The wireless was good, which was important to me, but my ATT phone didn't have service (not the bungalow's fault). I think Verizon and one other carrier works in that region. I didn't here the phone ring for two weeks - how great is that? Washer and dryer were fine. Beds were fine. Bathroom was clean and fine. Landlord was great (responsive). The place is centrally located, so you are within walking distance of the whole town. If you are looking for that festive holiday/wild experience/party vacation, I don't think this is your answer. If you want to ramp things down and still have an interesting environment, Jonesport has most of what you need and the rest is not all that far away. And of course, this is the coast of Maine - you will come across times and places so beautiful that you will find yourself scanning the real estate listings. Re-centering fee

We spent a week in the wonderful Jonesport, Maine. The house is old but warm and cozy and you feel like home. There are lots of places to go around. I highly recommend this place if you like fishing and hiking.

wonderful getaway

We had a lovely stay at this great cabin. It's spacious (for a cabin) and bright, with great light in the bedroom. Jonesport is really tiny; the one restaurant that was there is closed. You can get pizza, but we'd recommend calling the local lobsterman (number in the cabin things-to-do binder) for fresh seafood delivered to the door. He's also just a really fun guy to chat with. Be prepared to do some driving if you don't just intend to lounge around the cabin. We loved Eastport, Lubec, and Campobello. Also, Machias, about 1/2 hr. away, is the closest town. We found books at Obadiah's Cafe and happened to be in the area for the Machias Blueberry Fest. We went to the Black Fly Ball--a quirky little dance with good music and dancing on a stage over the river under the stars--a great night. We'd come back again!

We had a very nice vacation using this small fishing hamlet as our home base. The views from the piers were moving. The house itself was homey. The best thing had to be the lobster delivery by a wonderful local fisherman! The cottage was nicely tucked away and after a day of sightseeing it was lovely to come home to live, fresh caught lobster! The cottage was equipped with everything needed to have a romantic down east dinner, complete with lobster pot. If you like to get away but be comfortable and pampered, this is the place!

This is a beautifully renovated, clean and simple vacation home, away from it all. If you want to visit one of the last unspoiled coastlines in the US, this is a great place to go. The owner has taken great pride in his home and you will be comfortable, warm and relaxed. We were thrilled to hear no phones ringing, have no cable TV (just DVD's) and to live the simple life for a week - we didn't want to leave! Thanks for a great vacation.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

It was hard to leave Jonesport on Saturday morning. We had a good time. The weather was exceptional. The house was very nice. It suited our needs perfectly. We had family visit for one night from Aroostook County , and they had a blast. Location is excellent for day trips to Lubec and Acadia .
We had a bit of initial trouble getting enough hot water. The knob on the heater in the basement was turned to one initially; all was remedied when I turned it up to three or four. We turned it down again when we left. We added some more brochures etc. to the binder on the table.
The house was in very good condition. Everyone who entered commented on the pressed tin work. Very nice. I would love to pick that house up and plop it in Houston .
Nothing was really lacking for our stay. If ever we head up that way again, I would certainly enjoy staying there again. Thanks for your efforts.

Our visit to Jonesport went well. Everything was great and above our expectations. The house was clean and very well maintained. The area offered friendly people, exceptional peace and outstanding scenery. We captured many great photos throughout our trip. The Great Waas Island hike is also a great experience, we did the full 5 mile loop which went along the coast.
