“Wonderful Getaway”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2016

We rented this cottage along with the cottage next door with our sister and brother-in-law. We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet with wonderful views of the ocean and islands. We sat on the deck wrapped in blankets one cool evening and watched the moon rise over the bay. Sunrises are beautiful with lobster boats going out to collect their catches. Local people are welcoming and friendly. Not many places to eat in Jonesport in October but we did have excellent pizza from Jonesport Pizza one night. We had breakfast and dinner at Helen's in Machias. This restaurant has excellent food and seems to be recommended by all the locals. We brought more than enough food to eat at the cottage and the cooking facilities worked well and were suitably equipped. We hiked one of the trails at Great Wass Island. It was a workout but ended up at the ocean with views of Moose Peak Lighthouse on Mistake Island. Spent several hours hiking at Cutler Preserve near Cutler. An hour long hike was rewarded with great views of the Atlantic from 100 foot cliffs. The blueberry barrens in mid-October are amazing - they look like Monet paintings and stretch for ever. Definitely worth planning a trip at least once to see these amazing fields of color. We enjoyed our stay at Doug's cottages and would recommend them to any one looking for a break from the rush of every day life.

Owner's reply: Jonesport is too quiet for some vacationers, but for others the opportunity to see the natural beauty of Downeast in a peaceful setting is a welcomed respite. Thanks for letting us know that you enjoyed your stay; it always does my heart good to read that our visitors have enjoyed their time at the cottage. Doug McCourt

“Charming and Amazing View”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2016

Our vacation at this quaint seaside cottage was a dream come true. It processes the charm of cottages of yesteryear and the view of the ocean was mesmerizing. The location allows for day trips but we decided to avoid the tourist crowds and try to experience a simpler side of Maine. The ever changing colors during the day, the smell of the salt air and the rhythm of sea were right at our door. Walks on the nearby beach, watching an eagle or sitting on the rocky shore in front of the cottage fulfilled what we were looking for in a vacation. It was a pleasure to work with Doug. He was very helpful, easy to work with and tried to be sure our expectations were a good fit. Memories of this small gem will remain forever in our hearts.

Owner's reply: Thanks so much for the great review! Hopefully we will see you again. Doug McCourt

“Excellelnt choice”

I think the cottage we stayed in was 'the other one.' The owner has two, and I messed up on dates and he obligingly accommated us in the other, since the one posted was taken. The view is indeed spectacular, the cottage is homey, and the owner very helpful

Owner's reply: We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and thanks for posting a review. Doug McCourt

“Sharing of Paradise”

Reviewed 12 Jul 2015

Upon arriving at the cottage, we walked around to the back which is the main entrance and WOW! are breath was taken away. The most amazing, beautiful view of the great North Atlantic and all the little islands in front of us! We knew that the next 10 days were going to be paradise. A much needed peaceful vacation. That does not begin to describe our experience at Doug and Joan's cottage. The cottage was the perfect size for us and was totally equipped with all you will need for your stay. Nothing was lacking. It is very clean and rustic, but perfect. While there we would sit outside and just absorb the sites, sounds and smells of the ocean. As I am writing this review my husband has just said, "I just loved it there honey, it was the most peaceful vacation we have ever had"! I would have to agree, after 41 years of marriage and seeing many wonderful places, this is the place we want to come back to. We saw the eagles on Bar Island across from the cottage, also seals and loons. The smell of the sea roses with the morning dew on them in the yard when you first came out in the morning was intoxicating. We were able to see the full moon rise directly in front of the cottage that was mesmerizing. We spent every moment we could outside. In the evening we watched movies that Doug has supplied in the cottage, movies we have not seen in years, played games outside. We went into town a lot and the local people there are the friendliest people on earth I swear. We were able to see the famous Lobster Boat races and the wonderful 4th of July parade. Did I mention the fog, oh it comes and goes and is the most refreshing feeling. The sun shone everyday but fog would roll in and out,,,Loved it. We cooked almost every night with fresh seafood purchased from the local wharf's, just amazing the taste of freshness! If anyone is wanting peace, quiet, no shopping, no crowds with views to take your breath away, Doug and Joan's cottage is the place to be. Thank you both so much. Lynn and Jim

“Gorgeous Ocean Views from a Lovely Cottage”

Reviewed 2 Jul 2015

My mother, sister and I just enjoyed a wonderful week at this Jonesport cottage. The views are stunning. The weather was lovely for most of the week but we even thoroughly enjoyed a rainy day watching the waves crashing on the islands. The cottage has everything you need, including a grill, outside chairs and table and wifi. There is plenty to do with side trips to Beals Island, Machias, Lubec, Campobello Island, and Acadia National Park. We wish we lived closer so we could come back soon!

Owner's reply: Thanks Charlotte for taking the time to post a review. Doug McCourt

“Perfect Getaway from City Life”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2014

This is a small no frills cottage with a spectacular view right outisde your door. The lack of T.V., internet , and busy city life helps to free your mind and sit back and enjoy the view and quietness surrounding you. The owner is a pleasure to deal with and has very helpful tips for places to go and eat right in the town.

Owner's reply: We now have WIFI

“Quiet Getaway”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2014

The cottage was the perfect location for a quiet getaway. Far enough away from the crowds of Bar Harbor, but not too far that you could not get down there for a full day of whale watching and a trip up Cadillac Mountain. The view was spectacular, and the beach combing kept my family occupied for several trips out to the island. The cottage was cozy for four, but we didn't spend any long days there as we were out and about most of the time. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were very suitably decorated. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment and dishes and there was nothing we needed that we couldn't find. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys the coast, but wants to avoid the crowds.

“Quiet and serene”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2014

Had a very enjoyable relaxing, quiet week at this cottage. The cottage is adorable and perfect for 2 people. We love this area, so it was a perfect spot for us. Even the few days of rainy weather didn't take away from our vacation. We enjoyed the area fishermen, and the best rolls (lobster and crab) at the Bayview Take Out. We would come back in a minute!!! Thanks for having this piece of heaven available for others to enjoy! Karen and Lucien

Owner's reply: Thanks Karen for letting us know that you enjoyed your stay and for taking the time to post a review. Doug McCourt

“Another wonderful Vacation!”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2014

We were lucky enough to come once again to stay here! The cottage was everything a person who is looking for some peace and quiet and gorgeous ocean views could want! We walked out to the island on the sandbar at low tide 3 different times during the week! Loved it! The cottage is well-furnished and decorated perfectly for it's location! Great seafood take-out near by if you don't feel like cooking! We will be back again! One of us has a bad back, so we bring a 3 inch memory foam pad for the double bed. Does the trick!

Owner's reply: Trish, thank you for taking the time to post a review and we hope to hear from you again. By the way, we have a new pillow top mattress for the bed. Doug McCourt

My husband and I stayed here for seven days, it was great, the most peaceful place on earth. We got to see the eagle on the small island to the left. I woke up at 4:30 in the morning to see the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen.
