Description of the Kaanapali vacation condo rental
This Vacation Rental Ocean Front 2B2B Penthouse Condo is located in the center of Kaanapali Beach, Maui's finest white sand beach. The Whaler is part of a destination resort just 3 miles from Lahaina, 4 miles from the Kapalua airport and 27 miles from the main airport at Kahului. Two world class golf courses are adjacent to The Whaler along with a number of hotels, other condos and at least a dozen restaurants and The Whaler's Village an upscale shopping center just next door. This ocean front property has unparalleled views of miles of Maui's beaches, Lanai, Molokaii and the West Maui Mountains. There is no finer view on Maui and arguably anywhere else in the world. The condo has floor to ceiling windows. The rooms are all spacious with mirrored walls which enable ocean views from virtually everywhere within the condo. Designer furniture decorates each of the rooms. The wrap around Lanai has chaises and a railing height table enabling you to dine with the view of the ocean, beach and Islands totally unobstructed.
As you enter the condo, the view from the living room overwhelms you. With mirrored walls you can see the ocean, Kaanapali Beach, Lanai, and Molokai from everywhere. A 32 inch TV plus DVD and VHS players enhance your entertainment options. Ceiling track lighting make reading in the evening a pleasant experience. A queen size sofabed, loveseat and two large upholstered cane chairs make entertaining easy. It is easy to see why this room is the most popular room in the condo.
The kitchen is newly remodeled with white cabinets, and white marble counter-tops. A four burner ceramic top range with a convection oven, a microwave oven, dishwasher, full size refrigerator enable a chef to cook whatever meets their needs. An automatic coffeemaker, toaster, blender and a variety of pots and pans, glasses, dishes, cutlery and other utensils are available. Everything you need to make Thanksgiving Dinner or pancakes, or a fancy lunch is available. Furthermore as you stand at the counter you have a full view of the ocean the beach and the islands which may make it difficult to concentrate on cooking!
The formal dining room contains a designer glass top table that has 6 Italian designer white chairs, but can easily hold 8 people. Mirrored walls again enable views of the ocean, beaches and islands from every seat.
The master bedroom is a spacious 14.5 by 20 feet with a King size bed, floor to ceiling mirrored wall, 37 inch flat screen TV and white designer furniture. A large closet is available for your clothes and ample drawers for all the clothing you will need. You can sit in bed and watch the ocean. A sliding glass door allows you to access the wrap around lanai. A large master bath has been completely renovated and contains a full tub, shower, tiled floor and floor to ceiling tiled walls as well as a washer and dryer.
The second bedroom is nearly as large as the master bedroom at 14 by 16 feet and contains two queen size beds, a floor to ceiling mirrored wall and the ability to see the ocean without ever getting out of bed. White designer furniture and a large closet give you lots of storage space. An etager contains a TV set and radio. A second bathroom was just recently remodeled with a tile floor, and floor to ceiling tile and also has a shower serves this bedroom.
Parking for The Whaler is available covered underground between the two towers and also just after you enter the property by the tennis courts.
Area Information
Our location in the Kaanapali Resort provides you with the opportunity to shop till you drop next door in the Whalers Village, take in a round or two of golf across the street at Kaanapali Golf Course, or relax and enjoy the beautiful Pacific Ocean. There are activities available close by that will interest almost anyone. Swimming, tennis, golf, fishing, surfing, bogey boarding, para-sailing, jet skiing, biking, hiking, and horseback riding are all available nearby. Fine dining, live theater, movie theaters, magic shows, and art galleries abound.
Next to the Whaler in The Whaler's Village is a whaling museum
MAUI OCEAN CENTER 192 Maalaea Road, Wailuku
Since the $20-million Maui Ocean Center opened in March 1998, this state-of-the-art facility has lured visitors from around the globe with a fascinating glimpse of Hawaii's undersea world and marine life. Through years of research and meticulous care, Maui Ocean Center has gathered the best and most unique collection of Hawaii's marine life. As a result, what would take weeks, if not a lifetime to explore in the wild, can easily be seen in a leisurely, stroll through the facility in one day. Maui Ocean Center is open daily, from 9AM to 5PM (6PM in July and August). The Ocean Center is within a short drive.
Ulalena is a live show well worth seeing at the Maui Myth and Magic Theater.
A wonderful magic show, the finest that we have ever seen that will entertain young and old is located in Lahaina.
The Maui Arts and Cultural Center in Wailuku has a variety of live shows and concerts.
HAWAII NATURE CENTER 875 Iao Valley Road, Iao Valley
The Hawaii Nature Center in the Iao Valley is a good pick for the whole family. Geared for children, it's no less fascinating to adults. The museum features more than 30 hands-on exhibits and activities, all designed to tell the story of Hawaii's natural history. A towering glass solarium presents ever-changing views of Iao Valley; rushing water flows into touch pools and aquariums are filled with native stream life. The Rainforest Walk guide will share the lore and legend of this history-rich valley. The Museum and Gift Shop are open daily from 10AM to 4PM. Rainforest Walks can be booked at 11:30AM or 1:30PM Mon-Fri;11AM or 2PM on Sat-Sun. Walkers must be at least five years old.
Explore a missionary home and surrounding gardens and discover Hawaiian culture and crafts. This museum offers visitors an opportunity to examine and appreciate the authentic native Hawaiian artifacts as well as Hawaiian history and culture. The Museum and Gift Shop are open Monday through Saturday from 10AM to 4PM.
Brilliantly displayed with murals of undersea life, the center offers educational exhibits, artifacts, reading and video materials on the Humpback Whales and their habitat. Free lectures and educational materials. Open Monday through Friday from 10AM to 3PM.
This 60-acre plantation grows a cornucopia of fruits and flowers. See what's in the ground on a narrated, 40-minute tram tour, including Maui's thriving pineapple and sugar cane industries. Tours depart every 45 minutes 10AM-4PM daily. The plantation's marketplace has a large selection of official Made-on-Maui products. There are lots of edible goodies like Maui onions, Maui Potato Chips, pineapple jelly, and mango tea. Pineapple cutting demos are 11:30AM and 2:30PM daily. Admission to the grounds is free, open 9AM to 5PM daily.
On the rugged Hana coast, Kahanu Garden grows in splendid isolation, nestled in one of the largest, untamed native hala (Pandanus) forests in the Islands. Learn the cultural relationships between the people and these remarkable plants that were transported around the Pacific on ancient voyaging canoes. Situated in the storied land of Honomaele, Kahanu Garden is the home to Piilanihale, a massive lave rock structure believed to be the largest heiau (ancient place of worship) in Polynesia. Open Monday through Friday 10AM-4PM.
With a blast of its steam whistle, the locomotive chugs along a six-mile stretch of track at a leisurely pace. The Sugar Cane train crosses a 325 foot curved wooden trestle whose elevation yields panoramic views of neighboring islands and the West Maui Mountains. The sugar Train operates daily from 10AM to 4:45PM.
Maui is renowned for some of the finest beaches in the world, with more miles of swimming friendly beach than any other Hawaiian island. Along with the sparkling blue water, experience the uniquely black, garnet or salt and pepper shades of sand at certain beaches, due to ancient volcanic activity.

The biggest attraction on Maui is more than 100 ft below the ocean. Atlantis Submarines is your ticket to see it. Take a once-in-a-lifetime undersea adventure in an Atlantis Submarine. You will journey into a spectacular blue world more than 100 feet below the surface i spacious air-conditioned comfort. To enhance the sub tour experience and help improve the marine environment, Atlantis embarked on creating an artificial reef in 2005 by sinking the aged replica of a 19th century supply vessel. The sunken Carthaginian, which needed major repairs and would have otherwise been scuttled at sea, is anchored to a sandy bottom in 95 feet of water that is devoid of coral reef. The resulting artificial reef will develop into a self-sustaining habitat for indigenous fish, coral and other marine life. Atlantis Submarines operate daily with scheduled departures at 9AM, 10AM, 12AM , 1PM and 2PM. Reservations are required.
Maui is home to Haleakala, the largest dormant volcano in the world, the second highest waterfall in the United States, and some of the most scenic landscape in the world. A visit to the crater of Haleakala by day or at sunrise or a hike into the crater is worth considering. Be sure to call for the weather forecast.
A bike ride down the mountainside can be an exhilarating adventure.
On the way to Haleakala National Park be sure and visit Kula which is the center of flower growing on Maui. There are numerous stands beside the road where you can purchase flowers at extremely reasonable prices.

There are many restaurants close by The Whaler and on West Maui. Below we have listed what we consider the best:

THE BANYAN TREE: Fine dining in the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Expensive.

SANSEI: An outstanding dining experience at Kapalua. There are two appetizers you must try: the Panko Crusted Ahi Sashimi Sushi Roll and the Mango Crab Salad Hand Roll. Among the entries you must try the Grilled Ahi and Asian Rock Shrimp Cake or the Mushroom Crusted Filet of Beef Tenderloin. Very reasonable prices. This restaurant also has a location in Kihei.

CANE AND TARO A seafood restaurant in The Whaler's Village which is owned by the same owner who brought us Sansei. Excellent fish dishes, and moderately priced.

THE PLANTATION HOUSE: The restaurant in Kapalua is noted for it's fresh fish.

THE TERRACE: Another excellent restaurant in the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Kapalua.

MALA: AN OCEAN TAVERN: The name is misleading as this restaurant has excellent dishes by owner Mark Ellman to fit all tastes. The prices are reasonable. It is on the water behind the Cannery near Safeway.

HONU A new seafood restaurant started by Mark Ellman that is right next to his Mala restaurant. The food is even better than the Mala with Pizza that is superb. Moderately priced.

GERARDS: This outstanding french restaurant is an excellent dining experience in a quiet location in Lahaina. Expensive, but we have never had anything but outstanding food here.

PACIFICO: This restaurant at the South end of Lahaina has fish, meat and good poultry dishes. The quality has slipped a bit over the last two years. Moderately Priced.

MAMA'S FISH HOUSE: Located in Paia on the other side of the island this restaurant is noted for its fish dishes but it has become far too expensive.

HALIIMALI COUNTRY STORE: Located on Haleakala near Makawao on the other side of the island this "store" is really a fine dining experience. Moderately expensive.


CJ'S DELI: Located just up the hill from the Whaler this deli has excellent reasonably priced take out or eat in food.

HONOKOWAI OKAZUYA & DELI: This fast food restaurant has wonderful take out food and is just 3 miles away.

PENNE PASTA: Here you can get a wonderful meal quickly or get take out food. This restaurant was started by Mark Ellman who also owns the Mala Ocean Tavern, but is now owned by his partner. Most entrees are the teens.

"Dr. Fall owns the unit #1252 ........... His rate was cheaper than booking with an agent. The unit was spacious and very clean. It was very homey and very well equipped. We could look out over the wrap around porch and see the sunset on the beach. Dr. Fall was very gracious and returned our cleaning deposit promptly. We met other people at the Whaler and they were very unhappy with their units. The problem is some units were very dated but unit #1252 was very updated. Dr. Fall was very accomodating when we indicated that we had a late night flight out and wanted to spend the day at the condo. I would highly recommend this unit for an excellen Maui vacation."
