Description from owner
Experience Big Island living and dining directly on the water along Alii Drive. Our property has direct access into the ocean! A large private garden with palms, lawns, flowers, surround the property and a lava rock pathway leads out to tide pools. This Hawaiian style beach home, decorated with Pacific and Asian accents, has been in our family since 1962. There are many homes built directly on the water but few impart the same feeling as does this home with its openness and its easy access into the water for swimming, fishing and snorkeling.
The main living space is upstairs with an open kitchen, dining area, living area and outside porch all blended together. There is also a second guest room with queen bed. From every room are views of the ocean, the mountains and a large, private garden. One can see the ocean while sitting in bed.
The master bathroom with king bed is downstairs with ocean views looking out to the ocean on both sides. There is an adjoining second bedroom which looks out to the ocean and has two double beds. Adjoining is a floor-to-ceiling-tiled bathroom with a huge walk-in shower, large enough for partying!
Downstairs laundry room comes with washer, dryer, beach chairs, beach towels, dive masks, fins, hammocks, snorkels, golf clubs and fishing gear.
Experience island luxury with two new bathrooms, wall-to-wall carpeting and bamboo flooring throughout the living areas and granite-topped built-in kitchen.
The home and property include tidepools and old lava flows extending out into the water. From the porch are views 5 miles north to the cruise ships moored in Kailua Bay and 1/2 mile south to Kahalu'u Bay and the Keauhou-Sheraton Beach Hotel. Looking out the kitchen window one has a clear mountain view of the extinct volcano Hualalai. Runners pass by our house during the Ironman held each October.
Beds: 1 King Bed, 1 Queen Bed, 2 Double Beds

“A room with a view!”
Warm and inviting family home. I could have spent the whole vacation on the balcony watching the ocean and spotting whales. Great location for exploring the rest of Hawai'i too! Owner was delightful in arranging our stay, very accommodating.
Owner's reply: Thanks Kirrily, Yes, the balcony's our favorite great place to just hang out at and gaze mesmerized by the water against the rocks, tide pool, whales, dolphins and even a seal one time. Mahalo, Tim
“Stunning oceanfront Beach House in on Ali'i Drive.”
We absolutely loved our stay at this property!! The location is perfect; great views across the ocean, directly on the water for swimming and snorkelling, close to the centre of town on Ali'i Drive, awesome wildlife spotting with whales breaching in front of the house (they were early this year), and beautiful sunsets to finish the day. The house had all of the amenities you require for a comfortable stay including a well stocked kitchen and plenty of sports and recreation equipment. The wifi worked very well and the TV had a good satellite service with the main channels available. Our family had a fantastic stay and we will definitely be planning another visit in the future. I would highly recommend this place to anybody looking for an original style Hawaiian Beach House in a stunning location.
Waterfront older cottage offers a true Hawaiian experience! Home is updated and clean! Location is right on the water in a great area of Kona close enough to walk a 1/2 mile to a nice beach or snorkel park. Drive to a larger grocery store is 1 mile in a shopping enter. Downtown Kona about 5 miles away. Sitting on the porch listening to the crashing waves was the best part. We saw turtles and dolphins from the porch and watched the locals fishing!! House has everything one needs. Be aware that to get to the downstairs you go outside, was very easy access but thinking about sleeping young children!! Road noise is drowned out by ocean noise at night in the down stairs bedrooms as well! I would stay here again and will recommend it to all friends !! Owner is very nice and very helpful!! Was the perfect week to end our 3 week Hawaiian vacation, Kona is always warm and sunny!!
Owner's reply: Aloha Jan, Knowing that you live in such a quiet place, I'm glad you liked your stay and enjoyed the waves! You hit on all the things we also like. Your right about the stairs, our quest with very young children usually sleep on the same floor. Thank you for your nice comments and being our guest. Mahalo, Tim Canby
“a week in Hawaii”
I was able to book 7 days at the beautiful home. Some buddies and I enjoyed it so much. The home was very well taken care of. Everything was clean and area around the home was kept up very well. The view from the back porch ws awsome. It was on a main road into town and easy to get anywhere on the island to visit. A very short distant from the airport as well. We enjoyed our vacation very much and we all agree that we must to it again soon. I highly recommend this home as a place to take a vacation at when you visit Hawaii.
Owner's reply: Aloha Preston, I'm glad you enjoyed the house and found it in good shape. I had just stayed there before your visit and spent 3 weeks renovating window frames and doors, replacing fans, and preparation and painting the porch. We'll work on keeping it in good shape should you wish to visit again. We expect the view and the surroundings to stay unchanged. Mahalo, Tim Canby
“Relaxing Home Away From Home”
The beach house was very old Hawaiian style quite and peaceful. Excellent views right on the ocean. Simple living in wonderful setting!
Owner's reply: Aloha Zach, Since you are a Kona native, your review should be considered authentic! I think we are one of the last remaining homes of this error still available to stay at. We look forward to your next visit home. Mahalo, Tim Canby
“Wonderful oceanfront gem”
This is a fantastic location, 3 miles south of the town of Kailua. It is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath home with lots of light. The covered lanai has lots of seating area as well as a king sized bed, complete with mosquito netting. You can go to sleep at night, listening to the surf. The kitchen is well equipped. There are several tables and chairs outside for dining and comfortable outdoor furniture. As well, there are beach chairs, mats, surfboards and snorkeling gear to take to the beach. Thank you for a great stay.
Three couples shared this lovely home on the ocean. The house was very well supplied from the kitchen to the beach gear. Great location and beautiful spot to watch whales, dolphins and amazing sunsets. Highly recommended!
Owner's reply: We're glad to provide this unique beautiful setting for your enjoyment. Thank you!
“Cozy beach cottage”
We stayed at this lovely cottage over Thanksgiving. It is an older cottage, but comfortable and extremely well-supplied to meet all our needs. There were fresh bird-of-paradise flowers throughout the house and papaya and mango left to greet us on our arrival. We spent every night on the lanai marveling at the view and slept soundly to the sound of the waves crashing on the lava rocks. The location is wonderful with easy access to Kona. We walked to both the white sand beach for boogie boarding and Kahalu'u Bay for snorkeling and stand-up paddle boarding. I had read about Kahalu'u Bay, but the snorkeling there was well beyond my expectations, with turtles and a huge and diverse population of reef fish. This cottage is a treasure and we have memories for a lifetime.
Owner's reply: We're glad, Angela and Arnold, you appreciated the location between Kahalu'u and White Sands beach. The sounds of the waves on the rocks are a treat for me also that I've only experienced at this home. We will continue to strive to maintain our home for all our future guest to enjoy a good time as you seem to have had. Please consider us should you wish to visit Kona again. Mahalo, Tim Canby
“Yellow Beach House”
The place was perfect. All you need for a great vacation. Stocked with all kinds of spices and utensils, the kitchen was fantastic. Ocean views unforgettable.. Ocean access a bit sketchy, but great beaches within a mile or less. Cannot think of anything else we needed. Great fishing right off the rocks. Easy access to town for strolls or dining/shopping. Would recommend this place to all.. Hope to go back soon!
Owner's reply: Dave, Entering the water takes a little bit of getting used to and some guidance. I walk straight out on the left side and jump off into the water where it is about 6 feet deep. Getting out I climb up on the submerged step which is just beyond the jump off point. I've never gotten hurt doing it this way. Let me know if you want photos to show this. Of course, it's not as easy as getting into and out of a pool or sandy beach, but a lot more interesting once in. Thanks, Tim Canby
“A true gem!”
This home is lovely and we really enjoyed our stay in it! We were able to cook some of the local foods in the well equipped kitchen...which was a real bonus! The natural air conditioning with the overhead fans worked out great and opening the modern windows allowed for great cross ventilation. I would highly recommend this house desiring a "non touristy" experience! The beaches nearby the house were great too!
