“Relaxing retreat”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2017

The Ohana Retreat on the Big Island is an excellent property. With 8 bedrooms and nine bathrooms and two separate kitchens, one on upper floor and one on lower floor, it is wonderful for families and extended family/friends. We enjoyed all of the fruit trees where we could pick fresh fruit every day. The managers of the property gave and awesome tour of the property and all that it has to offer. We had the pool all to ourselves most of the time and there are many activities available for use to guests such as paddle boards, kayaks, bikes, water shoes, snorkeling gear, shuffleboard, etc. There is a beautiful pavilion with cooking facilities where we enjoyed a huge family Thanksgiving together. I highly recommend this property and we will go back for sure! The Magic Sands beach is walking distance too. They even make their own chocolate and have their own coffee which is available for guests. The home is beautiful as are the grounds around it. If choosing between a resort and the Ohana Retreat I would choose the Ohana Retreat every time!

“Family Retreat”

Great place for a large get-together. Amazing grounds with very interesting assortment of plants and fruit trees. Great amenities including pool, tennis court and a great outdoor pavilion for large dinners complete with big screen TV for our football fans. Equipment for snorkeling, biking and close to a great snorkeling beach. Managers very accommodating and do a great job, working hard and maintaining the grounds. Also great location for base for seeing the island. If you have a large group, you can't go wrong.

“Anniversary Celebration!”

This is our third visit to the O'Hana Plantation and we will most likely be back. With 28 of our family and friends we rented both houses for a week and at the end everyone was very pleased. Using the whole plantation is very relaxing and the caretakers are very accessible when needed. My husband and I had our 25th Wedding celebration in the pavilion and it was very memorable! Mahalo!!!

“Memorable family gathering”

I don't know what could've been nicer about our stay here. The place is a true gem - a quiet corner of paradise tucked away from, but within 5-20 minutes of markets (food & goods), great restaurants, beaches, historical sites, etc. In addition, we were introduced to the fruits grown on this magnificent site, after which time we picked whatever we needed, morning - night. The pool & tennis court were big winners for our family (3 generations) and the more than amply equipped Pavilion proved to be an exceptional site for our Xmas eve family gathering, which included exceptional food, music, dancing & lots of good fun. All this in a private getaway. And, during the week we were also able to make day trips for hikes on the other side of the Big Island. The downside - nothing comes to mind at the moment. The pluses, in addition to the Pavilion's availability were - all 8 bedrooms were equivalent - there were multiple fans in each room - each room was relatively private (4 on each floor) - with 2 kitchens & 2 lanai's (up & down) there was plenty of opportunity for folks to both gather & to find space. Can't recommend the place highly enough - top pick for large family gatherings!!

We have stayed at Ohana Plantation three times. Each time has been a fabulous piece of work paradise. The houes have been very well organized and up kept well. The retreat is very pristine and relaxing. It is not far from beaches and some fabulous restraurants, We will stay there again!!!

“Amazing home”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2014

This home was stunning. The views are amazing. We had four couples and found the home to be plenty spacious and full of all the utensils, towels, dishes, serveware, dish soap, bathroom amenities, laundry amenities and cleaning supplies! We hated to leave. We did have to have the maint. worker come on the first day because the outdoor tv would not work. The staff was simply wonderful to work with and always a phone call away for questions regarding fishing, golfing, snorkeling, etc. The home has spectacular views. You won't want to miss the sunsets. We had no issues with leaving the home open during the day while we were out playing. The neighbors either weren't around or we just simply didn't see them. I would love to stay in this home again if I were returning to the island.

“Large family group - we were all blown away”

Went to Hawaii as a group of 14 family members to stay 8 days in celebration of our parents' 50th Anniversary. The house is amazing - centrally located on a quiet drive and perfect for extended family groups. The grounds are incredible and the staff were helpful and responsive to our questions and needs. We spent our days exploring the island and then, in the evening, the adults could relax while the kids cooled off in the pool or entertained themselves at tennis (or something like tennis). The facility has everything you need from kitchen appliances to beach towels/boogie boards to bikes which allowed us to maximize our fun during our stay. On our last day, we had checked out of the house and were finding things to do for the day without getting sandy at the beach, so our family toured the Hilton Waikoloa Village - which is a site to behold - but my kids said they would rather stay at Ohana Retreat because it is relaxed, private, quiet and we get to pick our own fruit. Guess we made the right choice the first time! (By the way, amazing fruit, coffee and chocolate)

“Ohana - the perfect retreat - Outstanding”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2013

We just got back from our Hawaii vacation and will be talking about it for months. The Ohana retreat was perfect for our growing family! We had plenty of room, tons to do, fresh fruit and great coffee everyday. A wonderful pool, tennis courts, shuffleboard and private patios off of each bedroom. The pavilion is fantastic for evenings and late night conversation. Most of all Matt, Lisa and Alvin are fantastic hosts and helpful with all the details that make a vacation special. I whole heartedly recommend Ohana retreat!

This was the best of the best. Fresh fruit every morning. I was part of a lucky group of people who got to stay here for a wedding. We had both houses booked so the entire retreat was ours to use. They have so many wonderful amenities. The rooms are amazing- the beds are completely comfortable. The fact that they have so many items to use in their garage for beach going was WONDERFUL and saves money on kayak rentals and whatnot throughout the island. I would HIGHLY recommend this retreat. Very safe- in a wonderful part of Kona.

“Fabulous! Awesome!”

Our family of 15 came from all over the mainland (some of us kama'ainas) and had an absolutely wonderful week! There are not enough superlatives to describe our experience! Randel and Alvin were so welcoming and accommodating. The house is incredible, well-equipped for family meals and fit us all very comfortably. We strolled the beautiful grounds and took advantage of the fresh fruit every day (we could not get enough of the ripened-on-the tree papayas and mangoes!). The location is ideal for heading into town, shopping, beaches and touring around, but away from the hustle-and-bustle (waking to musical birdsong every morning). The tennis court, shuffleboard area, ping-pong table and pool provided a lot of improvised fun between our scheduled activities, and having boogie boards and other gear available saved us from having to rent in town. When we wanted to just sit back and relax, we had spacious rooms to get personal quiet time. This house beats a hotel any day for experiencing a slice of "real" Hawaii (we also stayed in a Waikoloa resort afterward for a few days, but it just wasn't the same). Our only regret was having to leave! Just be sure to get some insect repellent and sunscreen -- this is the tropics after all.
