Description from owner

Step off the spacious oceanfront lanai, grab your surfboard, fishing pole, paddle board, fins and mask, boogie board or camera and walk our short hidden path to enter the ocean at Keolonahihi Cove! Or just sit back and be captivated by spinner dolphin, surfers, Humpback Whale, canoe paddlers, para-sailors, swimmers, divers, inspiring tropical sunsets, romantic moonlight dancing on the water, exotic birds, and more.

This place is a surfer's dream!!! Our 2/2 vintage Hawaiian-style beach house overlooks Holualoa Bay and two of Kona's premiere surfing breaks. Lyman's, a favorite surfing place of the Alii since the 1300's when the famous Chiefess Keolonahihi first rode her surfboard on the crests of the renowned surf break then known as, Kakala O KaMoa. Keolonahihi cove is accessed directly in front of our house in the same place where surfers have entered the ocean for hundreds of years. The Great King Kamehameha I learned to surf here while spectators could view the surfing from a shoreline grandstand constructed of lava rocks along the north side of Kamoa Point in front of our house. You can enjoy this same awesome view and shoreline access the ancient Hawaiians enjoyed. If you surf, this is the best Kona has to offer. From the lanai, you can see the side view, or "barrel" of the waves breaking at Banyans. Banyans, a great right break that is a short paddle across the bay, is another famous local surfing spot. When the surf is big it can break across Holualoa Bay presenting a long wave that nearly connects Lymans and Banyans! This is an awesome spectacle to behold!

We enjoy incredible close interaction with the ocean from every room of our home and the newly expanded lanai. The panoramic view sweeps from Kamoa Point North to the Old Airport and beyond. Cruise ships are seen in the distance when in port.

Comfortably furnished with big bamboo and Indonesian antique style furniture, stainless steel appliances, garbage disposal, microwave, dishwasher, washer, dryer, luxury bedding, towels and kitchen supplies. One bedroom has a king size carved four poster bed and the other bedroom has a Queen carved four poster. Each bedroom has bedside tables and lamps, a fan, dresser, and closet. There is one 7ft. big bamboo futon couch, another bamboo couch and two chairs, and 2 leather recliners. A teak cabinet houses the hi-def LCD television/cable/wireless Internet, DVR and DVD player and bluetooth compatible music system. We dine on the covered lanai, which has a teak dining table and a glass dining table with six chairs. There is a King Size platform bed with a net canopy on the covered lanai. The barbeque is always ready for your fresh catch!

It's perfect location is within minutes to shopping, beaches, churches, beach parks, resorts and all that Kona has to offer. Ocean and shoreline access is at the edge of our front yard. The ever changing ocean activity viewed from the lanai is an endless form of entertainment all hours of the day and night. “Perfect location - let the surf sing you to sleep!”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2016

Our family of five enjoyed three nights at this wonderful ocean-view site. Cathleen was great to work with, and we even had a gorgeous bouquet of fresh flowers there to greet us! For us, the house was more of a base of operations than a place to hang out, so we did not go swimming in the nearby ocean spot nor use the kitchen much. However, we were grateful to find everything that we needed for our excursions: beach towels, coolers, boogie boards, an umbrella, snorkel gear (we had our own so we didn't try it), and even some extra water shoes! It was the lanai that blew us away. Gorgeous views, comfy couch, and stools for gazing into the sunset, and of course the giant king-size bed, which was just so fun. AND a great bathroom right out on the lanai with a wonderful shower! The two bedrooms are small, but the living area is generous, and there's a second bathroom and shower inside. There is no a/c, but there are tons of fans and the temperature was totally fine for sleeping - and who cares because there's the lanai!!! The house has great charm and character, and felt tucked away despite being in a perfect location on the Kona coast with a quick drive north into town or south to Captain Cook - so many choices! Absolutely perfect base of operations for our Kona adventures! Thank you Cathleen!

“Loved it!”

If you want a sandy beach out front this is not your place. If you want a modest waterfront place with a huge deck (even has a king-sized bed on it) to watch surfers do their thing all day - book it. We enjoyed the entire experience. I would recommend it to anyone, especially surfers.

Owner's reply: Mahalo John ~ ~ So glad you enjoyed your stay at our Kamoa Beach House! It is amazing when the surf is up like it was during your stay! It's hard to leave the lanai! It was a pleasure having you stay and we hope you will be back when visiting Kona! A Hui Hou!

“Lovely lanai and ambience”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2013

My husband and I with our 2 daughters, son-in-law and grandson had a lovely week in this relaxed, comfortable house, right on the water (rocky coast), turtles welcomed us. Kitchen is rustic, only 2 wine glasses, basic number of plates, bowls so need to keep the dishwasher on frequently. Insinkarator stopped working, but no doubt will get fixed soon. House is on Alii Drive, a main road, but faces the ocean and all traffic noise is drowned out by the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks. Good area -short drive to town of Kailua-Kona and walking distance to beaches.

Owner's reply: Mahalo Siegrun and Family ~ ~ We loved hearing how your family enjoyed the "Hawai'ian Style" life on the lanai eating fresh fish, playing the ukulele, and singing along while the baby slept.. Thanks for letting us know we need a few new wine glasses. Luckily the garbage disposal problem was a 5 minute fix! (It was the reset button.) We certainly hope you will visit us again when you return to Hawai'i. The two Hunu that greeted you will be waiting !!! Aloha and A Hui Hou ! Kent and Cathleen

“Relaxing Time”

Reviewed 28 Apr 2013

Yes, it was a relaxing time for our 5 night stay at this Beach House. The inside flowed nicely to the outside, as we loved opening the sliding doors very wide. Watching the surfers while sipping on a drink, and just kicking back was a treat after being out all day playing around. The sunsets were beautiful. The house itself was laid out perfect and decorated nicely. We had the best time and I would highly recommend anyone to stay there. But first impressions are important and when we drove up the driveway and saw the gazebo, we thought we were at the wrong place. It needs some panels to block the storage. That sort of thing. Everything else was tidy in comparison. I still give this 5 stars.

Owner's reply: Mahalo Michael ~ ~ We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the beach house. It's really nice to share our home with folks who appreciate the casual indoor/outdoor living style and decor. Organizing, paint, and bamboo panels are on the top of our list for the gazebo. We also have painting, new kitchen counters and cabinets, rain gutters, landscaping, sprinkler system, and a bathroom remodel coming up! It was a pleasure having you stay in our home. We hope you will be back soon. Best Regards, Kent and Cathleen

“Ocean-lovers' paradise”

Reviewed 20 Jan 2013

I'm torn between lying in hopes that this place won't be "loved to death", and telling the truth that this home is the BEST place to stay Kona-side. Very comfortable and convenient, you'll find the star attraction to be the fantastic lanai. What a view! Great for watching surfers (or doing); snorkeling pretty good right from where the surfers enter the ocean, though we all bear the scars from being rolled over the lava by the waves when leaving the water. Many whales too! Wireless happened to not work while we were there but that was minor in the grand scheme of things. Some traffic noise, but not much at night and the sound of the waves overcame it anyway. It really was a wonderful place to stay, and we all agreed we hope to return, preferably soon and often.

Great Location to surf, snorkel and relax

Our family stayed in Kona to fish for a few days and relax in the beginning of August. My husband and I and our two teenage boys stayed at Kamoa Beach House. What a perfect place we found! The surf, the sunsets, are only part of this great place. We watched surfers and locals catching fish from the porch. The location was only but a five to ten minute drive to the downtown to find great restaurants and shopping. There is more shopping other that downtown. The owner recommended really good pizza from Bianelli's Itallian Restaurant in a shopping center with more restaurants and grocery stores. We really enjoyed being here. This house has fabulous views and is clean and has everything you need to enjoy your vacation. If you can't find it, the owners with be glad to recommend where you can get it!!

Perfect Place for Us

Our family of four (60-something parents and 20-something kids) stayed here for a week in May. We loved it! Spent much of our time on the lanai between forays exploring the Big Island. This property is perfectly situated to get into Kona for some nightlife and restaurants, head out to the beaches, go golfing or sightseeing. We did it all and loved coming back to this lovely spot on the water. There are flowers, birds, surfers, sunsets and even a family of mongoose. Grilling fresh fish and dining on the lanai as the sun set was pure pleasure. The house is quite private but not isolated. It is vintage Hawaiian with several lovely recent upgrades - the lanai, second bathroom, etc. Beds were comfy and kitchen well-equipped, the house and property are well maintained. It is right on Ali'i Drive so there is some traffic noise but a privacy fence hides you from the road. And we thought a bit of noise was a reasonable price to pay for being right on the water. There is a path leading to the bay at a small private cove with beautiful surf. We plan to return to spend more time just hanging out, relaxing on the lanai!

Please read in detail the owners description of the area and the amenities included with the house.... Then read it again to let it all sink in. There's so much history in that area and you will overlook it all from the huge lanai. If you're not snorkeling, surfing or shopping in the nearby farmers markets or in the hub of downtown Kona, you will spend your afternoon and evenings watching superb surf (and surfers), occasional whales and the most beautiful sunsets to be seen anywhere. You will fall asleep to the the sound of the surf and you will awaken to the same, punctuated by the sounds of the numerous, and very vocal tropical birds, combining songs heard nowhere else but in Hawaii. This is an opportunity to enjoy a one of a kind experience, like no other, that you will remember for a lifetime. If you can make it happen, please do, it will be a wonderful experience.

This was a perfect house for our family. We ate every meal on the porch watching surfers and sunset. The house is simple and comfortable with the most amazing view and location to all activities. Experienced surfers can enter right in front of the house. Beaches are just a short distances away. The new porch is where you will spend all your time just watching the ocean and surfers. We want to rent again next year.

This family gathering spot was one of the best experiences we have had in our many visits to the Big Island. Lots of outdoor space and privitcy. We almost lived on the spacious porch, eating all of our meals outside and watching ocean activities all day. The house is clean, comfortable and simple in the old Hawaiian style. We will be reserving this house again next year. It is located close to everything. What a gem!

My family and I had a wonderful stay at this home. I would definately recommend staying at this property to anyone. It was better than expected. Beautiful views, comfortable, clean, and perfect vacation setting but makes you feel at home at the same time. Its only a few minutes from downtown Kona and close to many fun activities. We would definately rent this property again!
