I'm not sure there are enough superlatives for this house, this view, this experience. The photos are absolutely accurate- it IS really that beautiful. I feel very lucky to have been able to stay here and I WILL be back.
Rent this amazing home! You won't be sorry!

Loved, loved, loved our stay at Happy Haole Hale. I cannot describe the absolute beauty of the view from the lanai. My husband and I prefer to rent homes vs. staying in hotels (we stayed in Waikiki for business for 3 days) and stayed 5 in Happy Haole Hale. Although we stayed in a beautiful highrise penthouse in Waikiki (not on our dime only for business) we would have rather spent the entire time here. The home itself is a cross between a luxury tree house and Gilligan's Island retreat that will make you wish you were shipwrecked on this beautiful island and staying in this home. The detail and care that went into building the home were so appreciated--wonderful woodwork, views, bedrooms, kitchen, appliances, the list goes on. We made every meal except for one in the beautiful kitchen. The location is excellent (the lush tropical side of the island) and we traveled easily with our rental car around the island. We did not hear any street noise and although there are neighbors it was a quiet, peaceful location. The photos of the home are beautiful but don't compare to experiencing it in person. Everything was spotless and well supplied. The owner lives on the property and she is a delight, however she gives you space so that you don't even know she's there unless you have a question. We felt like the home was very private and secure. My husband and I have stayed in wonderful homes in Belize, St. John, and other locations, and this was my favorite. It worked for just my husband and I, however I'd love to bring the rest of our family someday as it has plenty of room. Be sure to venture over to the beaches nearby and to Kailua Ranch--both are so close and a wonderful experience. I can't say enough positive things about this vacation rental--if you stay here, you will surely feel the same.

The last time my wife and I visited Oahu was back in 1970 when I met her for my R&R while serving as an infantryman in Vietnam. Back then we spent our week in Kauai since we were looking for a quiet place on one of the other islands. We had no idea how spectacular the east side of Oahu was with the Koolau Mountains and sandy beaches. So, when my youngest daughter announced her Oahu wedding plans to us last year that she would be marrying a musician in the US Navy's Pacific Fleet band at the Kauai Gardens (Don't miss their Sunday Brunch!) on the east side of Oahu, I asked my oldest daughter to find a house for six people near the Gardens. She succeeded beyond any of our expectations with the Happy Haole Hale! We were amazed by the photos which were only reinforced once we arrived. I can't add too much to what has already been said in earlier reviews. The Bali-style architecture is wonderful and the view across Kaneohe Bay is spectacular. My sister and husband enjoyed the 2-person kayaks and paddled across the bay and along the shore with the campground and park to Chinaman's Hat a couple of times. On their last trip they were able to view some sea turtles. Don't miss Kailua and Lanakai beaches about 1/2 hour away, and be sure to visit Kahuku on the north shore where there are several shrimp trucks/shacks. I also recommend Uncle Bobo's for BBQ brisket just up the road a few miles on the left. Check out the "Oahu Revealed" guidebook for other eating places on the island. Shelby was a gracious host and can also help with info about other places to go. My only regret is that wife and I had only one day of "free time" since all the pre and post wedding activities consumed most of the six days we were in Oahu. One final note. One of the most amusing things we saw one night was one of the resident geckos sipping some red wine out of a wine glass. He seemed to enjoy the libation...Be nice to the geckos since they eat bugs, and if you hear strange clicking sounds, that's them. May all future visitors to this special place enjoy it as much as we did! Aloha.

I know it has all been said before but I feel I want to say it again! This place is truly Paradise. We have been lucky enough to travel all over the world and to have stayed in some amazing places but nothing quite like Happy Haole Hale. As someone who works in the travel industry I know the pitfalls and am very fussy. I have never stayed in such an immaculate property. Everything was spotless which with so much white fabric takes some doing! The property is beautiful. We loved sitting EVERYWHERE! We would sit in bed and watch the sunrise, when we made ourselves finally get up we would sit in the garden and have breakfast, we would make ourselves get up and go out. Then we would come back and have dinner in the magically gazebo then make ourselves move to the lanai for drinks before returning to bed. We had all the doors open and just loved the breeze. Living in the UK we love fresh air (which is somewhat colder here!) the tradewinds were wonderful. We took the Kayaks out in the bay and had a picnic on the sandy beach just across the way. We saw a turtle and manta ray on the way! Not staying in Waikiki was the right decision for us but at just over 30 minutes away we did go there for dinner a couple of times and watched the sunset which was lovely. Being on this coast worked for us as we wanted to visit the Cultural Centre and see the HA Breath of Life show which is excellent. We also wanted to see the Turtles on the beach at Turtle Beach and visit the North Shore. We loved the shopping in Haleiwa (had to pay excess baggage with all the treasures I bought!). Kualo Ranch was great. We went riding and did the one hour Movie Tour which was well worth doing. We visited Pearl Harbour and also greatly enjoyed the submarine trip from the Hilton. The most amazing trip was swimming with the Sharks with North Shore Shark Experience - this was totally awesome and highly recommended. We also enjoyed seeing the whales on the shark trip and from the beach. Oahu is a perfect place with something for everyone. Happy Haole Hale is a percet place to see it all from. Shelby is a truly lovely person, nothing is too much trouble. She has created a gorgeous, artisitc home and you do truly feel you are at home. I like others before feel half reluctant to share this magical propoerty in case we can't get in when we are able to return! But that would be mean! Shelby we will be back!

Our family of four adults and three children under 11 recently stayed at Happy Haole Hale for six nights of paradise. This was our first trip to Hawaii and this fantastic bali-style home, stocked with every amenity you could imagine, made our stay in Oahu perfect. Situated in a very quiet community half-way between Honolulu and the North Shore on Kanoehe Bay made it an easy drive to all the beaches and attractions Oahu has to offer. We enjoyed sunrises over the Pacific, views of Chinaman's Hat from our back deck and fresh oranges from the front yard every day. The kids had fun playing tether ball and relaxing in the hammock in the gazebo.
Just minutes down the road is the Macadamia Nut farm and the Kualou Ranch, Polynesian Cultural Centre where you could spend the whole day, and the North Shore Banzai pipeline if you are lucky enough to see some of the big waves. There is so much more to see and do, but everyone will have to experience it for themselves to truly appreciate Hawaii.
This house was not just a rental, if was HOME and we had a hard time leaving it. Many thanks to Shelby who was available for anything we might need or just to help us have the best time possible on our vacation. Also Bob, and neighbour Eugene made us feel like we belonged, not just tourists. I forgot to mention the other guests living in the house, you will probably see the occasional gecko on the walls, but they are kind of cute and they won't bother anyone.
We would recommend this home to everyone who wants to get out of the hustle and bustle of busy cities and relax in quiet and peaceful surroundings. We also hope to return some day.
We miss the sunrises!

Not much more to say about this house than has been said by previous visitors. It really does have a spectacular location, a lovely landscape, lovingly designed rooms with artwork and fixtures that make it feel less like a rental property and more like a cherished island home. We were two couples traveling together, so there was more than enough space for us. There are comfortable beds, a great kitchen, and plenty of room to stretch out and do nothing. Even if you look at the pictures, you will be thrilled when you actually arrive for the first time — and always happy to come home to it after a day of activities or exploring. We only had four short days here, but still managed to enjoy the relaxing views, inspirational sunsets and even some stargazing. Thank you Shelby for creating this perfect island hideaway.

Our family of 6 adults stayed here for a long weekend to attend a wedding. We had read a reviewer or two online state that they were hesitant to post because they didn't want others to find out about this place; and now we totally understand why. This property is heavenly and it's natural to want to keep it to yourself. It is out of the congested hustle of the densely populated beach towns, and the extra 10 minute drive brings you to this amazingly and lovingly designed and maintained peaceful piece of paradise. The pictures are beautiful, but don't give away the whole property- which allowed us to be so very pleasantly surprised when we arrived.
This property isn't for you if you want to be in the middle of the action, walk to restaurants and shops or be on or near a hot sandy beach with waves. And because this seems to be a peaceful neighborhood and the home is clearly lovingly furnished and maintained, I wouldn't suggest this place for a group that plans to rage and party late into the night and trash the house.
We were looking for a place where we could relax, take a deep breath, and be immersed in all that is lovely and restoring about being on Hawaii, and this was the perfect place. The area is lush and green and cooler than Honolulu or Kailua. It is on a bay, so the water is perfect for a kayak or swim.
I do feel like we are sharing a secret in reviewing this magical home, but it's just too special not to share. We are grateful that the owner shares this home and we just can't say enough good things about this place, and the people, and we all hope to be able to return here together in the very near future.
The vacation spot of a lifetime.

This was the first trip to Hawaii for my son and I and we couldn’t have stayed in a more beautiful location. The home and grounds are stunning and the view is amazing. Shelby was a wonderful hostess and great at suggesting places to visit. You are away from the crowds, but every place you can imagine to visit on O’ahu is within close proximity.
A few of my favorite things:
Sitting on the porch with a cop of tea (or coffee) watching the sun rise (pure serenity).
Kualoa Park (just up the street from the house).
The HA Breath of Life performance at the PCC (a must see).
The hike to the observation point at Diamond Head (wear or take good shoes, flip flops aren’t good, no matter how comfortable you think they are).
The drive along Hwy 72.
Byodo-In Temple (Valley of the Temples, just up the street).
We couldn’t see everything we wanted to within a week,so we’ll just have to make another trip back. I can’t wait :)
