Description from owner

...we are nearly booked up for the crane season...but we still have open nights for our Guesthouse which sits on the same property... see our Guesthouse listing - property #328476.

Little Lauer Lake Cabin is a very quaint and comfortable, small fully furnished cabin with heating and air conditioning. Whether you are just making a stop in the area or whether you are more local and just needing a bit of family time or quiet weekend, it will meet your needs. It has one private bedroom and plus a sleeping loft with a queen mattress and an open area which is a great place for the kids and sleeping bags. There is a small full bath with shower and tub, full size frig, stovetop, and convection microwave in the kitchen. As well, all of the pots, pans, coffee maker, dishes, etc. are provided; so are the linens and towels. We provide coffee, shower gel, and often a few basics like ketchup and mustard are on hand, too.

The little back porch is everyone's favorite. It has a nice outdoor table, two large comfy outdoor chairs and there is a two person chaise lounge near the water. The view is of the lake and wooded area without another house in sight, even though there are other homes in the area, including our residence. It is truly a convenient location; just seven miles off Interstate 80 and only seven miles from groceries, gas and entertainment

NEW TO 2017! Internet is available! And, if you have a larger number in your party, there are now two lodging options on the same site! [Our Guest House will also be available for nightly lodging! It sits on the same property so directions, etc. are the same. The price is the same, too! See the Guest House listing on this site.]

THERE IS A 2 NIGHT MINIMUM and 4 ADULT MAXIMUM. On occasion we can make an exception.

THERE IS A 3 NIGHT MINIMUM on HOLIDAY WEEKENDS (Labor Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July (if a weekend)) On occasion we can make an exception.

PRICING: $97 per night + $13 taxes (lodging&sales) = $110 per night AND one-time cleaning fee of $30.

[For example: 2 nights = $110 X 2 = $220 + $30 = $250 for two nights. 4 nights = $110 X 4 = $440 + $30 = $470 for four nights.]

Check in time is 3:00 p.m. and check out is by noon. Sometimes we can be flexible with these times so don't hesitate to ask if your schedule varies from these set times.

CALENDAR - is updated constantly - but with two venues one may be booked and the other available so always inquire regardless of the indication on the calendar.

CANCELLATION POLICY: We are not like a motel where a guest may walk in at the last minute and make a reservation; plus our staff is paid regardless of a cancellation. Therefore, our cancellation policy is less lenient than with other lodging options. We charge your credit card for the full reservation approximately four to five weeks in advance of your stay. If you must cancel after that time, we will refund only 50% within four weeks of the stay. If you cancel within two weeks of your stay, we refund only 25%. HOWEVER, we always try to re-book the nights and if we are successful, we will refund your payment in full, less any credit card transaction fees. We have no interest in receiving duplicate payments for the same nights and feel this is unfair to our guests.

There is satellite TV service (with local stations to view Husker games!) and a DVD player for movies, etc.

Outside there are two beach areas for our guests and there will be our new paddle boat and a gas grill at both the Cabin and the Guest House. Enjoy! The relaxing, private 1/4 mile walking trail to the Platte River through grasslands and wooded area is continually mowed and ready for you, unless the rainy weather hangs around and prevents that from happening for a few days. We do try hard to keep the area 'natural' yet comfortable and accessible for our guests. Near the river you will find a table and two chairs as it is a perfect picnic spot. We always encourage you to bring a camera because deer and turkey love this place. In the spring the sky is full of sand hill cranes, blue heron, geese, song birds, bald eagles, and on occasion, even a flock of pelicans. A quiet look out in the early morning is usually worth your time and effort.

There is 'catch and release' fishing. We have large-mouth bass, white bass, sunfish, bluegill, crappy, and a few elusive catfish.

Absolutely no smoking or candles! Replacing the cabin and house isn't the problem...replacing the trees and elements of nature is impossible! We are continuing our ban on open fires or fire pits; simply not worth the risk.

Cell phone services depends on your carrier so can be from non-existent to quite good.

Pets must be approved in advance. PERIOD. We have the right to refuse any pet(s) but we do love dogs. We are cautious about allowing cats as they have been a problem in the past due to claw marks and urine smells, yet we try to be as accommodating as possible. There is no pet deposit but you will be responsible for the cost to repair any damage caused by your pet. We have our dog, a female standard poodle, on the site, too.

THERE IS NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY AT ANY TIME. You enter the water and participate in water related activities at your own risk. WE PROVIDE LIFE JACKETS and highly recommend that you use them.

After you have made a reservation, we will send you a detailed email to assist with your arrival and stay. It will provide you with instructions regarding the keys, where to park, and other important details.

Upon departure, you need not do anything with the linens or the trash or cleaning; except we ask that you do wash up and put away any dishes or pots & pans that you used, and to clean the grill for the next guest -- this truly allows us to be able to continue to offer the gas grill. Other than that -- we'll take care of the rest!

The cabin is approx. 11.5' wide, 48' long including the back porch, and stands 16' tall. (410 sq ft + 200 sq ft loft with limited headroom) It is not handicapped accessible as it has steps to enter. (The Guest House is all one level with no stairs or steps.)

Email us if you have any questions.

We retain the right to adjust our policies on a case-by-case basis. If at any time access to the cabin becomes difficult or impossible due to weather conditions such as high water or heavy snow, we reserve the right to cancel the reservation. Cancellations due to weather are refunded in full.

Reservations are confirmed via email (Contact Owner) and we will provide payment instructions.

The reservation calendar is updated regularly and indicates the available dates. We try very hard to hold dates on a 'first come, first reserved' basis but do reserve the right to book those requesting longer stays, especially on holiday weekends.

We generally close the cabin from November 1 through the first week of March.

“Perfect Fall Get-a-Way”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2016

I actually spent two weekends here (twice in October). Each time was absolutely perfect - The cabin is a perfect get-a-way - feeling like the country but not too far from home. It is well stocked, clean and comfortable - Plenty of room for everyone and a GREAT place to see wildlife. The paddle boats and kayaks are a great addition! - An easy walk to the river and to Ft Kearny. The hosts are always on top of things and do a great job of keeping the cabin beautiful and welcoming! Thank you!

Owner's reply: Thanks, Joni!!

“Holiday At Little Lake Lauer”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2016

Our stay at Little Lake Lauer was nothing short of a five star family outing. We were juggling loved ones to allow for work requirements for a son-in-law and oxygen supply time limitations for our (85) year old mother. Management was kind enough to let us switch occupants to meet our needs. The cabin is furnished with most of the amenities of home, but do not take away from the feeling of "roughing it"! We spent the first day moving in and exploring the beautiful woodland and lake. The evening hours, enjoying Shis-Ka-Bobs and family fellowship reminiscing and telling jokes, until 3:00 am were priceless. Day two found everyone doing their own thing. My (40) yr old daughter and her husband fishing with myself, on one end of the lake while at the beach area on the other end,my (60) yr old wife and (13) yr old grand-daughter went swimming and paddle boating. The sounds of laughter, excitement and joy filtering through the air during the mid-day and afternoon hours were really what vacations are all about.Evening brought a barbecued batch of "baby-back-ribs" and an old fashioned meal, with some night fishing afterwards. All meant to bring peace and comfort to an old mans heart!! Sunrise and early morning were peaceful with wildlife coming to the lake for drinks, while fish were jumping and waterfowl were going to and from the water. A very nice ending to a super holiday. "FOOT note": While loading the SUV to start our vacation I fell down some steps head first, spraining and breaking some bones in my ankle. The foot swelling up as big as a small football (larger than the fish I caught) did not prevent myself from having a grand vacation at Little Lake Lauer

“Great weekend getaway”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2016

My husband and I took our three sons (one 3-yr-old & 15-mo twins) to the cabin for the weekend. It was perfect! The water was warm and shallow for the most part. It did rain a bit so we took the kids into Kearney to check out the Children's Museum. Another big hit with them. We had a wonderful time!

Owner's reply: Glad you enjoyed it. You children are adorable! Thank you for the review.

Unbelievably, absolutely perfect vacation! We were just awed at how much fun we had, the dog absolutely loved it. The cabin is beautiful, perfect for two adults and a fur baby (or real kiddos), there is an awesome loft above. We grilled, we fished, we paddle boated, the puppy swam, we walked the trail, we played board games, we snuggled and watched a movie, we ate on the patio. The owners really do have everything you could need, from dishes and bowls to pots and pans, silverware, even corn holders! Such an absolute gem, we saw ducks, cranes, deer, and so many other wonderful animals. Just perfect, thank you so much for the best vacation a couple getting married soon could have!!!

“Peaceful Vacation Getaway”

l love the new decor to the cabin! This is not our first stay as our son And his family live near by so we have been coming for a few years now? It is a such a cute and accommodating cabin. The area is so peaceful and with the water just feet from the cabin it is a great view. We have enjoyed many views of wildlife outside the cabin such as deer and turkeys. The kids enjoy the sandy beach to play on and the kayak and paddle boat. We love to walk the trail to the river but weather didn't allow us to do so this time. The guys really enjoy fishing the lake. Always something to catch! The owners are fantastic people and the gal they have working for them is wonderful too! Area is well maintained and there is lots of activities in the area. If you don't like to cook every night Flipping Sweet Pizza in Kearney is our favorite! We had 4 adults and 2 children and it wasn't crowded at all! Great family vacation if you love nature!

Owner's reply: Thanks, Ann. I'm so appreciate of the great help I have this year! :) Glad you like the new decor, too.

We will be back. What an awesome little cabin in the middle of nowhere. We didn't talk to another person the two days we were there including the innkeepers. This is a small little cabin. Ideal of two people. We brought our own food and never left from the moment we arrived until departure. Beautiful little lake. Clean and safe.

“A lovely stay”

Reviewed 6 Apr 2016

We stayed in the Little Lauer Cabin for 2 nights while visiting to see the Sandhill Cranes. The cabin sits right next to a small lake, and was only a 17 minute drive to the Audubon center. It was peaceful and lovely. The only negative was that we were missing salt and pepper for our first dinner and the 2nd bed had no sheets, but a call to the owner rectified those things quickly. I would definitely stay there again!

“Cozy cabin”

Reviewed 25 Mar 2016

Cozy cabin nestled in pine trees on a small lake by a trail to the river. A trailer home sized cabin with a nice layout and nostalgic feel. Very clean, thoughtfully decorated and fully accommodating. Our children loved the low clearance loft and we plan to stay there again for the next crane migration.

“Little Cabin”

Reviewed 16 Mar 2016

We really enjoyed the cabin once we found it. We were looking for signs that the email said would be there to guide us, but none were posted. In addition, the description stated that there was a grill on site, so we planned to use it during our stay and brought groceries specifically for the grill, but there was no grill to use. The cabin was clean and well kept. We loved the fact that it was secluded and right next to the small lake. The back porch was a great place to enjoy our morning coffee. We definitely would stay here again.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

From Owner: The Guest House review from the Gress family is 100% accurate - unfortunately - but we do believe in transparency for your sake when reading reviews. The Guest House was not clean enough, especially for toddlers and little ones who would play on the floor. The issue was dog hair. We tried to do all we could during their visit, including sanitizing the blankets and bedspread. (It was apparrent that the dogs had found the beds quite comfortable!) Because cleanliness is always our goal (the heading says "Immaculate Cabin" for a reason!), we have established the policy of "pets with permission only" so we can judge whether the size and number of dogs will create problems for us and the next guests. We love dogs. We love cats, and horses, and just about every kind of pet you can imagine. But, we must provide a clean environment for all of our guests. As noted, we have the right to make an exception to our polices, so some pets will be allowed depending on size and character. We thank the Gress family for their tolerance and we thank them for their kind way of expressing the problem. Marge Lauer
